The Chimney Man
United Kingdom
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 4 ธ.ค. 2022
The purpose of the channel is to provide an insight into the daily life of a busy chimney sweep.
I am a British chimney sweep and work on, clean and maintain all types of fireplaces and stoves found in the uk.
I intend to provide entertaining channel where you will get to see how I work on the different appliances.
I will share tips on how to operate clean and maintain your own appliance and hopefully learn something new on the way.
Thank you for stopping by and I hppe you enjoy watching me work.
Have a great day.

Please don't block up your air vents!
The owner of this property told me they don't like the smell of the new coal which is a little odd.
Further investigation revealed the air vent had been blocked up to stop a draft.
These are here for a purpose and mustn't be blocked up or covered over.
Enjoy! #sweepunit

Well the best ideas sometimes turn out to be the opposite. Was the battery in their CO detector wrapped in plastic to save the battery going flat?
Love seeing that bridge
Found watching that oddly cathartic. Will you be doing a follow up with the handle?
@@migtimber635 I will definitely try to 👌
Chimney man can you help me please, my mum has this fire and inside at the back on the left hand side above the brick there's a round bit and next to it there's a little line which let's light in, should this be there?
Hello, in my video I think I can, see the circle you mean. There are 2. One on the left low down and one on the right higher up. Those are to be removed when a boiler is installed. If there is no boiler them they are still. Blanked off. I can't remember for definite if there is a small gap around it. But some other stoves have these and you can see light coming through.
So the bottom of the beam is still not protected?
They should clean the glass, so you can see the fire better..
Great video love the content gives me certainty when I do bits on my Hunter Herald 8kw multifuel. I have a question as my RH door leaf has a 3mm gap along the top when locked shut how can I close it up?
@@neillscan if you mean between the door seal and the stove body I would always start by replacing the ropes with the correct size.
If you had 4 pots lined up in a row, would they interfere with the installation of each one?
@@rahimnizam6567 not usually.
yet another beast is tamed 🤜🤛
You're very thorough 👍 My Nestor Martin (US version) has different inner panels and baffle, made of Skamol, not cast iron like yours.
@@JohnBau is it the Harmony model?
@@thechimneyman-uk It's an X33, wood only, angular steel exterior. Wonderful stove. Just reinstalled and putting it back into service after 5 years in storage! Didn't have quite as many cobwebs as the one you serviced 😀
What's the point of having a glass door if the thing is there you won't be able to see anything
@@theoddjobcentre6686 I believe it can be removed if you want more heat to be radiated into the room.
What is your area working radius
👍👍👏👏
What’s the purpose of the rope seal on the sides of the grate?
@@darrenmorton1660 I would say to stop air for combustion making it's way behind the bricks rather than through the fuel.

Wow, look at all that!
They get awful busy those jackdaws. Good call on the carbon monoxide detector, an absolute must. Proper thorough job you did there. 👍

Fair play most sweeps wouldn't go up there to do that and to be fair they're right . keep safe 🙏
Useless
I had one of these the other day that hadnt been swept for 8 years the baffles would not lift up high enough to slide out so my only choice was to try and take the bracket off that they sit on and one of the bolts snapped it was a complete disaster lol i need to go back to replace fire bricks and decide what im going to do hopefully the 1 bolt that is left will tighten up enough to hold them in place. I think the bracket had been put on too high as there on sliders and it didnt leave me enough room to lift metal baffles up, the lugs just would not lift out if them holes.
@@Leewhitell01 sounds like a right nightmare. Snapped bolts is always a worry.
how easy/hard is it to remove the door?
Just lift off 👍
@@thechimneyman-uk cheers G, have one of these to do next week, its a great help this video, 😉
@@cooking23 nice simple stove. 👌
Really neat job. I sheet in a very similar way. Pleating vertically but fold outwards and taping along the stitched seem on the edge of the sheet. I dont always tape the hearth as i have marked them before. I fold the excess neatly and hold with a 'springer' rod ( old Bailey blue) to stop it moving. I will try your method next week, guaranteed to get a filthy open fire first job Monday 😂
@@pete6975 I think everyone has their own way. I didn't like doing it at first but I got the hang of it in the end. I do often use rods to support it and also have some props in the van 👍
Es un canal molt interessant .m agrada estar suscrit🎉
@@EscuraXemeneiesEstalzi thank you. I'm glad you like it 😁
I have worked on a couple of these this summer. Horrible design. I don't understand why the designers force you to remove everything just to get in the flue? You risk damaging the bricks and dont get me started on screws and bolts in the fire box! Crazy idea. They will not last. I grease them and barely tighten them for fear of them not coming out next time. Ps I use a nice neat socket set by Magnusson. Very handy and well made. Less than £30 from memory. Keep up the good work. The silly season is here! 😂
Good job! Which generation is this Coalbrookdale, I wonder? I just bought one second-hand and it needs a tonne of parts...
@@sergefog good question, I'm not sure exactly.
@@thechimneyman-uk I accidentally figured out that this must be the Gen3
@@sergefog it's definitely not one of the oldest ones. Good job 👌
@@thechimneyman-uk Cheers man. I bought one for 100 quid but they used it without firebricks which resulted in a slightly bent rear panel... Not critical but it's such a shame...
@@sergefog aah really. Parts are usually readily available for them too. Should be OK if it's not cracked. Keep an eye on it though.
Installer should have put a soot door in the stove pipe. Those will inevitably seize or shear. If they seize then there's no provision to remove the soot. Drilling fixings out of the stove is not an acceptable method of sweeping, you shouldn't have to modify a customer's appliance in order to gain access to the flue. Crappy stove and lazy installer.
@@andiabatic3252 I agree. You would still need to get that baffle out to clear it effectively. Better design is key.
that was ROUGH

Great video as all ways . quick question what brush would you use on a flex liner soft medium hard

@@steverandall7916 thank you. I'm using Ht30 from the local builders merchants.

@@stef19722003 I believe they are just using dry wood.
We use a mixture of kiln dried oak and birch supplied by Dalby Firewood. Not the cheapest but always burns well
@@philc3810 birch is a good wood for burning. The bark is useful for lighting too. 👍
Great helpful detailed video 👌 I have the same Stockton 3 stove and doing some maintenance on it 👍
if only all sweeps were quick and easy like that one 😁
@@cooking23 wouldn't that be something.
Doesn't the instructions on the glue say to wet the rope before installing then cure it by starting a fire after installing the door?
Not in the ones I've used. I can imagine that would be an awful process.
@@thechimneyman-uk Thinking the same thing. I need to replace mine but I don't feel like lighting my stove when it's 70° f outside.
@@pmaint1 😂😂 my preference is the ht30 heat resistant silicone. Instructions say put on 1 surface and bring both surfaces together. Cures on contact with the air. Check though and make sure it's suitable for your appliance.
those sponges you have used, did you buy them, or get them from old furniture, ?

@@mazman8343Good question. These stoves are manufactured to have 2 glasses. I always refurb them how they're supposed to be. Why they have 2 glasses I'm not sure.
