Game of the Year 2024
Episode 192
2024 has been a year of killer releases, big and small. Today, we pit Gametalk's 16 favorite games of 2024 against each other in a tournament face-off to determine our Game of the Year 2024. If you want to follow along, check out the bracket here: imgur.com/a/jkXqwUg. As always, we conclude with the games we're playing (Warframe: 1999, Cyberpunk 2077, Helldivers 2, Project Wingman: Frontline 59, Marvel Rivals). This episode was recorded in December 2024. Intro and outro music composed for Gametalk by Dylan Chase (dylan.robert.chase@gmail.com).

No one gives a shit
Not one mention of Sonic Unleashed- smh my head
😔
Just buy a playstation if you want to play a playstation game. Its literally that easy. You wanna play mario, you buy nintendo
not everyone can afford 600+ dollars for a console every 3-5 years. I'm using a pc I built in 2017. It's not "literally that easy" Plus with pcs you can also swap out parts to upgrade it for cheaper than it is replacing a console. A switch lite costs 200 dollars and was released in 2017. A ps5 with the disk drive is still like 400 dollars and a ps5 pro is 699.99 dollars before tax. It's not comparable.
It's bad when nintendo does it too
Exclusives are just awful to begin with, doesn't matter who does it.
@@yetitamer I never said it was good. All I said was that a switch lite's cheaper than a ps5.
I truly hope Sony doesn’t get ahold of FromSoftware.
Sony has a history of letting the company prove themselves with multiple titles before buying/incorporating them as a new studio
uhhh. they never truly balanced for overwatch league. they failed miserably whenever they tried and never did what the pros said to do. they are not balancing for the top 1% rn and they haven’t been trying for YEARS and that’s why you hate the game. we have our dogshit current state of overwatch because they try to balance for gold players instead of the top 1%. which actually ruins the game for gold players ironically. gold players don’t want to have to be good at the game just to enjoy playing ana and sleeping the tank and charge up orbs on zen and shoot people. but they don’t get to play actually fun heroes because they’re gonna play against a moira who gets more value just by existing and counterswapping which is much more powerful in this dogshit ass format, aka 5v5. if you’re a casual player then you’re basically forced to play the most brain dead easy and boring heroes. why does the game feel boring? maybe because blizzard does everything they can to reduce skill expression and reward for that? by making the easiest and most brain dead heroes the strongest? by constantly adding new heroes that progressively get more unfair, unpunishable, and braindead that get more and more value for existing? and why do they do this? to make the bad and casual players have more fun. it’s ironic isn’t it
oh and also there is a meta. and mauga has been the center of it for months now, except for that 1 or 2 weeks where dva was too strong
oh and also if balancing for the top 1% was a mistake then why is it’s pro scene still alive and kicking? almost like epic games did it right and blizzard failed miserably.
I was playing overwatch semi pro before brig came out lol, game was pretty alright before they dropped a hard counter to an entire meta lol
Every single generation is such an improvement on the previous that you cant compare them effectively. All you can do is enjoy them
Y'all are great! Keep putting that work in, I'm seeing more and more of your videos on my feed. Moving on up!
The classic mode is fun but I genuinely enjoy overwatch 2 way more I have options, options I like. Ow1 didnt have a hero I wanted to play as a main till brig.
Played classic for the first time yesterday. Shit was ass. It’s remarkable how anyone was on board with that game
I found Overwatch 1 to be so much better when there was a regular rotation of metas. You generally knew what you were up against, but it always felt fresh just because of how differently people play each character within the metas. OW2 is literally snipers or whatever character is new and OP. There is no meta, it's the same BS over and over again. If it's not Ashe/Cass/Sojourn/Widow, it's Tracer/Sombra/Genji. If it's not Doom/Ball/D.Va it's Orisa/Mauga. In my experience, Support seems to be the only role that actually uses all of its characters. Because aside from people memeing, the Tank and DPS roles just play the same small handful of characters (granted, Tank is still trying to bolster its numbers).
That might be the reason why people think Blizzard favors support players. It's not that they're favored, it's just that the meta is less important. Decent pairings will stay decent throughout the seasons. Brig/Juno is most likely going to stop being the meta in Season 14, but it will remain a strong pairing because it just works. Even lifeweaver, some people are calling it a troll pick, but he can definitely do a ton of healing and in some comps works better than a Brig/Juno. Meanwhile, some dps or tank heroes are pretty much unusable when they're not meta. I've seen teammates throw a tamper tantrum then throw and rage quit specifically because our tank played Hog. Torb is in the same boat. Pharah is not the pick right now, etc...
@@givrally meta doesn’t affect all the newest heros since and including bap and brig because they’re all so unbelievably insanely overpowered that they will never be punished for their mistakes unless they are just somehow that bad at the game. which most are because of how hard blizzard is forced to coddle them in 5v5 or else they fall over instantly every fight. almost like a second tank to control space and peel might help those supports live while also being punishable for mistakes.
Eh, wahammer did it better. And wukong is goty
Worst take ever
unbelievably so. it’s just so wrong in every way possible😅
Yup, im might quit once ow1 mode is gone
Gleba was such a logistics challenge, more so than any other planet. I don't hate gleba at all, but it took me ages to get it running right. My only issue now is keeping the spoilage flowing at a certain rate so that I can turn it into nutrients but also so that it doesn't back up the factory.
Someone's never played Deep Rock Galactic
Earth Defense Force (EDF) would like a word.
You couldnt run around with your friends when it first launched. the social list didnt get fixed until 6 months after release. The game was and is a dumpster fire.
I pre-ordered and played like the first week with friends through steam it’s not a bad game but it seems the devs have gotten lazy because at one point we were supposed to get an insurrectionist enemy along with the bugs during dev talks and then they cancelled it and decided “let’s put different colors for thing into our war bonds and instead of about 100 things we are giving y’all like 30” and the game kinda got screwed over by arrowhead the game was a riot to play with friends for a while but then it fell off and now I’m running space marine 2 which is similar with the mass amounts of enemies but warhammer has power armor and melee weapons!
Why is it always bugs why do people never want to fight the bots we need help man
My first dive was into the Creek. Fighting bots is all I know ...
@josephcrawley7622 good to see another creeker
Always there where the MO tells me to go 😁
What’s this past tense bullshit? Bro it is and continues to be those things, not “was” and “when it launched” the 60 day commitment made the game more fun than it was at release
I'm talking past tense...because I played it in the past? I never said it isn't those things now lol
@ sorry, I see I came on a little stronger than I meant, you should try the game again now, a lot has changed and a LOT of it for the better. I can’t say the planetary bombardment is good for winning but that will make you feel like you are in a war zone and then some
Death is better than cowardice
Why talk like it's past
FOR SUPER EARTH
Just make a category for best expansion
GTA VI is winning GOTY next year.
What a random comment
@ nah
Kind of! Vulcanus is definitely the best first pick, metallurgy is really useful. Fulgora also has a similar “Get high level resources basically for free” mechanic with scrap recycling, where you can mine scrap in patches by the millions that have a 3% to give you blue circuits and 2% for low density structure. Gleba is a whole different kettle of fish, and mostly deals in specialised items that require biochemistry, but those items are really powerful. It’s also a good incentive to create fast space platforms for spoilage reasons.
I’d recommend Vulcanus first (It’s relatively easy to set up with an early game nauvis and no other planet’s tech, plus metallurgy is really useful), then Fulgora, then Gleba, because Gleba is quite difficult so you’ll want good factories on other planets so you have less on your mind, and Fulgora can be done without any Gleba techs quite easily.
I think, that if it were to win it would be a HUGE middle finger to the AAA devs such as Ubisoft and EA and prove not everything needs monetization and we’ll be seeing more games catered to players, not their wallets
@@OrgnlProductions that's an interesting angle that we didn't consider in the episode
I'll be honest though. Growing up with Melee with the tops. That one was it for me.
@@BrotherBluntGaming i agree, no smash game will ever top melee. That gameplay is unmatched
You guys are cool. I love coming across your shorts while scrolling 😊
Aw thanks! That means a lot!
+Good graphics -This months rent
Lol priorities right?
I remember on the day before lockdown, my dad and I went to Best Buy and got this game INSTANTLY, which our family has played for over 100 hours EACH
My hunting horn thing in is a fight always be playing a song
Adam Friedland?
Rip multiplayer content
I miss doing Javelin Squading
I definitely agree that black flag is the peak of the series but I would say the games started to suck after unity. Like they didn’t feel like assassins creed games anymore.
@@jackfrost3686 agreed. And then the rpg games started coming and that's not what I wanted from AC at all
Bf3 c4 and a friend can make for some interesting flights
i used to be a hardcore COD fan until i tried the bf3 beta, it was buggy as all hell but yet gave me the best combat game experience ive ever had
Bad company 2, BF3, BF4, and BF1 were peak battlefield imo
The Xbox 360 / PS3 era of consoles was bar none the best time to be a gamer.
There's a family guy clip of Peter playing mw4 he was behind a car while he was under fire tried to throw a grenade it flipped and it killed quagmire and the kiosque/depaneur/7:11 guy
Lol what
Yea I went from playing halo 1,2&3 then right to cod4 for like 2 years played a lil w@w then back to cod4 then every cod up to bo4 then I retired on MW warzone
And nowadays halo gets released with a gay armor set before vital features of the game
Big fan of the Beatles rockband
Yeah but no one's goes back to cod 4 everyone goes to halo 3 now and then
True. Every now and then I still hop on Halo 3 with my friends. It's timeless
Unlike cod 4 I still go back to play halo 3. Cod 4 was fun as hell but halo 3 to me has more replayability value
Rock band was where it was at. My dad and brother and I would play together. Eye of the Tiger was our go to.
Eye of the Tiger was so much fun
Almost all of us finally had decent internet access. Online multiplayer was easily and widely accessible. It was a gaming renaissance.
And now COD is just sweats jumping around the map and $70 dlcs
@infectedearth at least the campaign in bo6 is pretty good, but yeah it's not what it used to be
@@PodcastGametalkThe Zombies is a blast to me personally. I think it's one of the best modern ones around although B03 has the unbeatable modding scene lol
Cod 4 is still the best. Nothing has hit like that sense
@@cornbreadshagwire those were the days!
For me it was 4, WaW, bo1, and MW2. All of them were masterpieces that nothing else has come close on again
@jash3823 i think I mention this on the full show, but WaW was my favorite. Loved the campaign and mutliplayer, and zombies was new and exciting
You have no idea what you're talking about
Why are you talking about Oblivion like gulf war veterans are talking about their memories from gulf war on Dr Phils show
@AremStefaniaK I talk about most things from my past that way 😂
