Finding My Vocation: A Guide for Young People Seeking a Calling
Purchase Finding My Vocation here: rfpa.org/products/finding-my-vocation.
What others are saying about this book:
"Finding My Vocation by Pastor Bill Boekestein is a timely book. Many young people are questioning the traditional assumptions about how to find their niche in life. This book masterfully unpacks calling in the space of 100 pages. Simple without being shallow, Boekestein exams the biblical concept of vocation as well as how to prepare and practice one’s vocation. Finding My Vocation will be a birthday gift for all my grandchildren who are trying to find their calling. I could not make a better recommendation than that."
- Tedd Tripp, author, pastor emeritus, conference speaker
"Pastor Bill Boekestein has done young people-and the whole church, really-a tremendous service by providing an accessible overview of the Bible's teaching on vocation. We are most happy, and God most glorified, when we “live in a manner worthy of the calling to which we have been called.” This book will help you do just that. I commend it highly."
- Jonathan Landry Cruse, pastor, Community Presbyterian Church, Kalamazoo, MI
"Pastor Boekestein has written a book that is all at once practical, motivating, challenging, and encouraging. The normal feel-good platitudes of the day won’t cut it, and Bill dives into a scriptural take on one of the most important issues and considerations we will ever face. His communication style is clear and succinct yet with true depth and richness that makes the key takeaways of the book really stick. I cannot recommend this enough!"
- David Bahnsen, author of Full-Time: Work and the Meaning of Life
"Young people seeking God’s will for their life’s calling will discover a treasure trove of wisdom in William Boekestein’s Finding my Vocation. A rich, fulfilling, Christ-centered life awaits them if they follow the principles found on these pages."
- Mary Beeke, wife of Joel Beeke and author of Teach Them to Work: Building a Positive Work Ethic in Our Children
"Three things are most important in life: Knowing God, marrying the right person, and finding the right vocation. William Boekestein's thoughtful book may help young people follow a good path and recalibrate if they've gone astray."
- Marvin Olasky, author, chairman at Zenger House, and former editor of WORLD magazine
"In this book, William Boekestein shows us a true pastoral heart. He lays out biblical principles that can enable young readers to seek a vocation that fits them and then do it with gracefulness and God-glorifying purpose. As a founding chancellor of a Christian university in Africa, I will want to put this book into the hands of all our students. The truths in this book could have far-reaching results on our continent!"
- Conrad Mbewe, pastor of Kabwata Baptist Church and founding chancellor of the African Christian University in Lusaka, Zambia
"God brings us to our vocations, but his callings still require our preparation and discernment. William Boekestein has written an engaging, biblically and theologically-informed guide for young people trying to figure out where God wants them to serve that is both practical and spiritual. But it is also a guide for those of us already deep in our vocations who perhaps do not fully realize the role vocations play in the Christian life."
- Gene Edward Veith, professor emeritus of literature at Patrick Henry College and author of God at Work: Your Christian Vocation in All of Life
"Hardly a week goes by when I am not asked an earnest and serious question about vocation. Often it has to do with preparation for work; sometimes it has to do with enduring a job that seems unfulfilling. This short book offers clear, practical, but most importantly, biblical advice on the nature of work, its place in the Christian’s life, and how to engage in what God gives us to do. I recommend it highly."
- Jonathan Master, president, Greenville Presbyterian Theological Seminary
"Mastering his usual literary skills, William Boekestein covers every aspect of the doctrine of vocation particularly as it applies to young people thinking about their future. Because of the abundance of scriptural references and pertinent quotations, I have found this book more devotional and nourishing than I would have expected. Highly recommended for the whole family."
- Simonetta Carr, mother of eight and author of the Christian Biographies for Young Readers series

Psalm 122 Meditation | Should I Pray for Jerusalem?
มุมมอง 232 หลายเดือนก่อน
Psalm 122 Meditation | Should I Pray for Jerusalem? How should biblical Christians think about Israel? Psalm 122 calls people to “pray for the peace of Jerusalem” and to seek her good (6, 9). Is Scripture calling us to be politically pro-Israel, as many interpret it to-day? Or is it teaching something else? The psalm is an ode to Jerusalem as the spiritual and political capital of God’s Old Tes...
Psalm 133 Meditation | The Beauty of Unity
มุมมอง 512 หลายเดือนก่อน
It is hard to argue with the thesis of Psalm 133. As strife makes us miser-able even when everything else is well (see Prov. 17:1), so unity is “good and pleasant” (Ps. 133:1). Still, we often forget the beauty of unity, con-tent to remain estranged from those to whom we should be close. To catch our attention David says, “Behold!” Spurgeon paraphrases, “Pause and gaze upon it! It will charm yo...
Psalm 64 Meditation | The Welcome Gift of Punitive Justice

Lying and gossip are among the most effective ways to kill someone’s reputation. David was on the receiving end of what we call-especially in election years-a disinformation campaign. He knew he shouldn’t care what man might say about him (see Ps. 118:6). But fear is natural. And David’s enemies were formidable. They made secret plans to accomplish evil purposes drawing deep from their arsenal ...
Psalm 94 Meditation | The Truth about Pride
มุมมอง 193 หลายเดือนก่อน
Today pride, in all its manifestations, is celebrated as a virtue. Psalm 94 reveals how God sees pride and how we can respond to it. Sometimes the Hebrew word for pride describes God’s majesty and his gracious exaltation of the poor. By contrast sinful pride is self-focused. And the evidence of an uplifted heart is arrogance and oppression. Though “they are but a breath” (Ps. 94:11) the proud p...
Psalm 46 Meditation | God Is Our Refuge and Strength
มุมมอง 273 หลายเดือนก่อน
Many psalms are about believers in trouble. But none is quite like Psalm 46 in presenting God as the helper of the faithful. You have reasons to fear. You might fear political upheaval. “The nations rage” (6). Power can inflate our sense of strength. And bad leaders are bold in opposing God. Sometimes political instability can be unnerving. “Nations totter” (6). The accession of “a new king” ca...

Psalm 86 Meditation | Seek God’s Grace in Your Day of Trouble The superscription of Psalm 86 notes what is true of all psalms, they are prayers. This one is “A prayer of David.” And, as John Calvin writes, “a better and more unerring rule for guiding us in this exercise cannot be found elsewhere.” This psalm is a beautiful guide for how “poor and needy” sinners (1) can confidently cry out to Go...
Psalm 47 Meditation | Wholehearted and Full-bodied Worship
มุมมอง 254 หลายเดือนก่อน
The fear of God might not sound festive. Instead, it might suggest terror, anxiety, or sadness. But Psalm 47 teaches just the opposite. God is to be joyfully feared because he is a “great king over all the earth” (2, 7). He chose Israel and conquered nations to give her the promised land. For believers in Jesus God’s choice of Israel and his gift of promised land is no less applicable; God’s sa...
Psalm 50 Meditation | Rejoice in God’s Self-sufficiency

Psalm 50 Meditation | Rejoice in God’s Self-sufficiency God owns “the cattle on a thousand hills” (10). This familiar sounds like good news about God’s vast wealth. It is, but in a different way than we might expect. In context the phrase about God’s ownership is part of God’s fuming rebuke against his covenant people. The opening verses sound like the “all rise” announcement made when a judge ...
Psalm 49 Meditation | The Solution to the Puzzle of Riches
มุมมอง 54 หลายเดือนก่อน
Imagine walking a crowded sidewalk. Suddenly you hear a shout: “Listen, and I will solve a riddle you have all puzzled over.” That’s how Psalm 49 begins. The author poses a riddle that amounts to this: Is it possible to be confident even in the face of oppression? (see 4-5). May-be you’ve never wondered that. But there is a reason the speaker ad-dresses “all inhabitants of the world, both low a...

The church seems fragile, ineffective, and disconnected. Local congregations can become, complacent, divided, self-centered. The church faces powerful adversaries; they do great harm and threaten to shake our confidence in what God is doing in the church. But God wants to give us his perspective of the church. Psalm 48 doesn’t use the word “church.” Instead, it uses phrases like “city of our Go...

Psalm 22 Meditation | Our Crucified and Risen Savior Jesus redeems his people “both in his estate of humiliation and exaltation.” In Psalm 22 David prophesies of both estates; the first twenty-one verses are a desperate cry for help. The last ten jubilantly celebrate life. The psalm’s first part alternates between anxiety and trust. The sufferer cried, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?...
Psalm 27 Meditation | How to Face a Dangerous Future
มุมมอง 295 หลายเดือนก่อน
In a fallen world fear is natural because danger is real. Christians must have a realistic view of trouble. But we must face a dangerous future with brave resolve. Psalm 27 is both realistic and positive. The last verse calls for strength and courage. We can get there by practicing four principles. First, learn from God. “Teach me your way, O Lord, and lead me on a level path because of my enem...
Psalm 45 Meditation | A Love Song about Jesus

God isn’t just running a rescue operation. He is covenanting with his beloved people. The church is the bride of Christ (Eph. 5:31-32). God’s people anticipate the Lamb’s marriage supper (Rev. 19:6-9). For this reason the gospel isn’t simply good news; it is a love song. It is the story of a good king who marries the bride he has always loved. Psalm 45 is a poem about this marriage. It is “a lo...
Psalm 44 Meditation | How to Be Bold with God

There is nothing shocking about the start of Psalm 44. The writer tells how God led the fathers into the Promised Land, drove out their enemies, and planted them securely. Their own strength didn’t do this. God’s arm saved them. The light of his face delighted in them. The writer takes God also as his own Savior: “You are my King, O God … you have saved us from our foes … and we will give thank...

Good review. Yes, Rev 22;16 shows how Jesus Christ was in the line of David and all the promises and covenants come true in the Kingdom which will honour all the prophecies and restorations that Jehovah, the true God here in the Psalms, has set out even as far back as Eden (Gen 3;15) and Abraham (Gen 22)

It's embarrassing, they didn't get that the Holy SPIRIT is the Father who is a SPIRIT: "The FATHER seeks such people to worship Him. GOD IS A SPIRIT.". They thus "invented" a God: the "Lord who gives life".

The Ancient Egyptian Pyramids were originally built as altars, to worship the Elohim Extraterrestrials👽👽👽👽 Bible: Isaiah 19:19 In that day shall there be an altar (pyramid) to the Elohim👽 in the midst of the land of Egypt, and a pillar (obelisk) at the border thereof to the Elohim👽👽👽👽. That's why the pyramids align with the 3 stars of Orion ⭐⭐⭐. "God" is pagan name, it's from the name Gad, Gad in the bible was a Babylonian God of fortune. Google it! The real Creator YHWH l believe may have been an Extraterrestrial that came to earth thousands of years ago, and according to the Bible's book of Revelation will be back again one day. Isaiah 65:11 But ye are they that forsake me the Elohim YHWH, that forget my holy mountain, and prepare a table offering for Gad, the god of fortune. I'm so happy that some Christians have finally added the Hebrew word for "god" and "gods" which is "Elohim" to their Bibles. Berashit (aka Genesis) 1:1 In the beginning ( the) Elohim created the heaven and the earth. Bereshit (aka Genesis) 1:26 Then Elohim said, "Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness👽. Genesis 3:8 Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Elohim YHWH as he was 🚶‍♂️WALKING🚶‍♂️ in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Elohim YHWH among the trees of the garden. Yechezkel (aka Ezekiel ) 1:5 ...within it 🛸 was the form of four living creatures. And this was their appearance: They had the appearance of man ( human) 👽 Jesus may have been an Elohim Extraterrestrial, Son of the ET Elohim YHWH 👽 John 10:36 Jesus said "I am the Son of (the) Elohim YHWH" 👽🛸 John 8:14 Jesus " l am not from this world " 🌍✨ John 20:28 And Thomas answered and said unto Jesus, "You are My Lord, and my Elohim"👽. John 20:17 Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended🛸 to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend🛸 unto my Father, and your Father; and to my Elohim, and your Elohim👽. Acts 1:9-10 Now when Jesus had spoken these things, while they watched, He was taken up🛸, and a cloud received Him out of their sight. They looked steadfastly toward heaven as He went up🛸 In our Future... Revelation 21:2 l saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem ( Spaceship🛸), coming down out of heaven from YHWH Elohim 🛸👽 Revelation 21:3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! Elohim YHWH dwelling place🛸 is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and Elohim YHWH himself will be with them and be their Elohim. The truth is finally being revealed! And the truth shall set you free! 🛸👽😁👍
