      These were the only zip ties I could find at the hardware store. They do the job if you space them out correctly and im a certain order. I wouldn’t want to go much bigger.

      I just used what I could find at the local Home Depot. Had a lot of people say it’s a bad choice but don’t care what to build it as cheap as possible. Will spend extra on the fiberglass though. Been a while since I’ve been able to work on it should be getting back to it soon.

  • @loskop100

    That is quite a big project for a first timer so I admire your courage. One thing that is important is to put butt blocks across all your joins in the ply on the inside of the hull and on your stringers, all that you need is a 6inch wide strip of ply glued along them an screw them together with lots of screws because you can't clamp them. I use gorilla glue because Titebond 3 is too expensive here in Oz. I also use hex head screws because having an integral washer they clamp better and come out easier and can be used again often. Don't worry about screwing blocks and stuff on to hold things because whats a few more holes to fill. Standing there looking and thinking is a valuable part of the process, something that will pay off in the long run. Good luck with build and I look forward to the journey of your progress.

    The 2# foam per plans will stiffen the hull. The 1200 biax glass should hold up well on the bottom of the hull. I added 6" strips down the keel and the chines for extra insurance. An oyster would probably scrape it but I wouldn't worry about putting a hole in the bottom of the hull unless you hit something hard going full speed.

      As for the bilge area, I cut down the top of the stringer to lower the floor and made a pocket for water to collect into. I have my bilge pump sits in the lowest part of the bilge pocket and the exit hose is mounted to the starboard side of the hull.

    • @FishingWithHoang
      @FishingWithHoang ปีที่แล้ว

      I see a bit of gaps in between the chines. I used a hand planer to knock down the high spots on the edges of the plywood to get those gaps closed up. They don't have to be perfect, but it's best to have joints fairly close so you don't have to fill them with thickened epoxy so much.

    What oz glass are you planning to use? The center of the hull sections are supposes to be scarfed, not butt jointed so I am curious how you are going to strengthen that area. Under load over time, the butt joints will crack and the glass will start to delam. I would add doublers over those joints while you are at it and use epoxy instead of that titebond glue. I had my buddy drive mine in some really choppy conditions while I saw sitting up front and it feels like a sledge hammer banging on the bottom of the hull. Kinda gives me anxiety hoping the boat doesnt break apart at times. But I used 1208 glass instead of 10oz as per plans under the hull with extra layers on the keel for strength and just in case I ever hit a oyster bar. I think the new plans after 2020' changed to 1208 glass for the bottom of the hull after I used it on mine. Since you are planning on running 2 or 3 people, get a 30hp with the fuel tank in the bow. You also might want to look into adding electric trim tabs since this hull design is very sensitive to weight distribution. If you need any pointers, message me... Keep up the good work!

    • @driz1208
      @driz1208 ปีที่แล้ว

      I appreciate the comment. I’ve actually watched your videos too. I was planning on using 10oz because that’s what the plans called for. I did notice on the new ones it says 1208. I’m not very educated when it comes to fiber glass so I was going to use the 10oz. As for the motor I think I’m definitely gonna go with a 30 ho Suzuki. I watched that video of yours too. For the price and the weight it seems like the best overall option.

    • @driz1208
      @driz1208 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have also been thinking about trim tabs. I figured Id see how it handles first. I was thinking about putting the tank under the console. Because I was gonna do a hatch up front that would be big enough for the tank.

    • @FishingWithHoang
      @FishingWithHoang ปีที่แล้ว

      @@driz1208 Use 10oz for everything and see if you can find 1200 biax glass. The glass is weaved in a 45 degree pattern for strength. The difference between 1208 and 1200 is the backing material that is attached to the 1208. It sucks up a lot of epoxy and is a pain in the ass to work with. Again make sure you find "1200" Biax glass. For the stringers, transverse frames and bulkheads. Glass from the bottom up. In the older plans, it only tells you to glass the joints. I noticed in one of your videos you mentioned you got the plywood from Homedepot? I'm guessing they still marine grade plywood in your location? If it isn't, I would high suggest glassing EVERYTHING! So far 4 out of 5 FRS-15s are running trim tabs. Run without it first like you said and add later. But I suggest having them because of the boat's characteristics. I'm going to stretch my boat out to around 16 to 16.5' in the near future. Just gonna add sponsons to the back and blend it in. I got a lot going on in the boat so the ass end is kinda heavy. Well that's what I think but additional floatation would be great!

    • @driz1208
      @driz1208 ปีที่แล้ว

      What brand trim tabs are you running?

    • @driz1208
      @driz1208 ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely going to glass everything. I’m a little confused though. You’re saying use 10oz on everything on the inside and use 1200 or 1208 on the outside?
