Here's What I LOVE and HATE About My SCION XB After 100,000 Miles

As an experienced and knowledgeable xB owner, I share my thoughts about the 2nd Gen xB generally, what I love and hate about it, problems/issues that I've had with mine, and what mods I've done over the years!

Step by step process of taking off the front bumper cover on the 2011-2015 Scion xB. This will be very similar for the 2008-2010. I haven’t found a good velcro that sticks to my headliner. It is also the cheap headliner for a little Hyundai. Even Velcro patches that are originally made with velcro don’t stick all too great
Who’s charging so much to do an AC evaporator? Avoid Dealers. Still love mine!
Nice thank you
Replace the radio with Apple Carplay/Android Auto. Don't look back.
I have a 2009 scion xb refrigerator, other than burning through oil, it’s a great car, 200,000 miles and still in great shape
Those look far better than any hub caps I saw
420,800 miles on my 2006 xb, have driven it 260,000 miles since 2018, engine ant trans no problems, replaced water pump, injectors, alternator, wheel bearings, that's it.
I recently ordered one for my Camry but the driver window won't work but all other windows work flawlessly
Bro i think you need a new Compressor. I had the same issue. It was the compressor..
I use to swim there when i was a kid would to go back and camp out 😊
Ever since i got rid of my vw jetta and got a toyota ive missed these features but now ill be able to get my Toyota to have all auto power windows thx to u bro
Looks very JDM.
very niiice
from what ive heard the first gen xb's are a lot better than the second gen xb's also it seems the first gen has more visibility out of the windows
They're completely different cars, so it's purely personal preference!
@@thebluexb yeah
My 15 doesn’t burn oil. I have a 5 speed, pretty quick, too. I love it. Cool Army Rock (the brown) color. My only gripe is the low roof. Seeing above. Like traffic light, is a bitch. The Broadway mirror helped with back pillars. The fuel economy is so so. I’ll keep it a very long time! I love the interior, gauges, seat material design, space, good handling, and the 5 speed manual makes it more efficient as well as engaging.
Will this work on my 2016 Scion iM?
2006&1/2-whats that mean? & man, I REALLY need that part above the license plate on that first one you looked at. Any chance that could happen by phone?
I have a scion xA and just hit 240,000 this week! It’s still chuggin along. It was my first car when I bought it from Toyota in 2004. It’s 2024 and I’m just now starting to add things to it 😅
@@ralphw7454 that’s awesome!!
@@thebluexb a lot of people keep asking if it’s a new model and I’m like… nooope it’s 2004 😅
LOL at the transmission/speed. That's why for me, "It's not a racecar, it's a bass car!" I've NEVER heard someone else mention the A-pillars! I've had more than a few occasions where I didn't see a pedestrian on the curb (luckily without any incidents). But that is DEFINITELY a thing with these (Oh and I'm getting ready to change the engine because of the oil consumption...be happy you were unaffected!)
@@DaBadNewz Yeah i think the A pillars are a personal thing for me, but always something to be mindful of. Mine has burned oil in the past, but it’s inconsistent. Have you tried out a piston soak? Apparently it helps reduce consumption
@@thebluexb unfortunately I think I wasn’t aware of the piston soak until it was too late. It’s not completely Toyota’s fault, I was kinda nonchalant about checking oil in between changes, and then spent WAAAAY more time “monitoring the situation” than trying to do anything about it…then it got worse! (Imagine that) Lesson Learned!
What size is the hardware you used for the hanger bracket and exhaust flanges?
I have a 2011 corolla s coming to 230,000 miles soon. Not that much issues but suspension is bumpy now compared to when new. I like the yellow fog lights.. I got yellow auxito bulbs myself for mines. I’m looking to get another newer car either a yota or a scion xd or xb series .. lowest mileage on scion as much possible and seen one xb like yours at 54k miles in a .. mehh a burgundy color. I’ve actually test drove an xb back in 2011 and seems very nice and though it was a scion.. it didn’t qualify to get the “before” sticker price with my moms employer on a Toyota (yea she consigned my credit was like fair).. so ended up getting the corolla instead.
Have they held up after 2 years?
Wow. I have been looking at getting one of these and using it as a daily driver
UPDATES 102k: Front left door speaker blew 😢 104k: Front right door speaker and tweeter blew
sounds like a perfect time to upgrade to something a lil louder!
I'm Sorry, Not sorry. I KNOW I see your lips moving, though you SURE sound like one of those BOT voices!!! Just my observation. PS::: If 'That Dude in Blue finds out... he might get angry. L.o.L. I dunno..
I’m sorry, Not sorry. Your comment doesn’t make sense but i heard his video just fine… just my observation, no BOT voices heard on my end.
The early and late year 2AZFE engines didn't burn oil. I used to have a 2003 Toyota Camry that had over 250,000 miles on that engine and it used a half a quart every 5,000 MI . That is quite acceptable. The mid-year engines that had the first generation of the low tension oil rings were the ones that would burn oil, but that was a problem if you used the extended oil change intervals. If you used a good quality synthetic motor oil and change the oil every 4000 to 5000 miles they would not usually develop an oil burning issue either. They fixed that problem with the revised piston design and the later versions of the engine stop having the oil burning issue. Your car has the later version of the engine.
@@thatcarguy1UZ Yes, this is partly true! The earlier engines were better, especially those made between 2004-2006. Unfortunately, even after the revisions, oil burning problems persist. The TSB covers engines made up to 2015, so theoretically, every 2nd Gen xB can burn oil according to Toyota, including mine.
My 15 doesn’t burn oil. I have a 5 speed, pretty quick, too. I love it.
I’m wondering if this would work on my 09 Corolla le…
I disassembled and compared my switch assembly to the ebay listing as best I could and ordered it. It seemed like it was a similar fit, etc. I got it today and it is working well. Thank you so much. I love the auto up feature, so I kept trying to find a way. Thank you so much.
I done exactly what you did and driver window doesn’t work every thing else works. Put my old switch back until I find out what to do, I’ve tried two new switch same results
The driver’s side didn’t work at first for me. I had to flip it up a couple of times. All of the others did. I had to do it a few times and it goes up now with one flip.
Im having the same issue with my camry
Mine is working perfectly now. I’m so glad that this works for me.
Got a 2014 and love it. Although the headliner rattle can drive me up the wall! lol it needs to be replaced. I really wish it came with a 4WD option like the Rumion has in Japan. So far my add ons have been; mud guards, bug guard, window vent shades, led everything, rear bumper protector, front TRD sway bar, K&N short ram intake, lowering springs, and I used to have a weapon R header and Borla dual exhaust, but removed them for a quieter ride. I also replaced the springs back to OEM since I was bottoming out a lot lol 1.5F & 2.5R drop will do that
I still have my 2008 with a manual transmission my daily, it's a little over 200k miles now and it is still going strong. Bought it new at the dealer since 2008. Around 100k miles something Toyota replaced the short block for me for free due to burned oil. Other than that it has been very reliable. Just a week ago I had to replace the rack and pinion rack assembly and rear bearing hubs. What can you say it's over 200k miles. Always use Mobil 1 oil since day one. I used to have a first gen, didn't like it due to lack of power. Traded in for 2008 and loved it. Especially with the manual transmission.
From 2012 to 2015 the oil consumption issue was solved from the factory. Still have my 2012 9.0 RS Scion xB. 144k miles.
@@oreally8605 unfortunately, that isn’t true. They revised some things, but 2012-2015 are still included in the TSB and have the potential to burn oil.
@thebluexb I stand corrected, however mine doesn't burn oil and I've never heard of the 13, 14, and 15 burning like the 2008-2010. I'm taking your word for it- Thanks
I wish i knew about the oil burn to get mine tested. I never knew about the recall
The manual transmission in these are super super easy to drive highly recommend
I love my 2012 with manual transmission, It is so smooth and I can even upshift 3-4 and 4-5 without using the clutch!
less oil burning because toyota fixed it 2013+, on older model there was a TSB that put those fixes out.
They didn’t fix it completely, the TSB includes ‘13-15. It’s simply less common on the newer models.
I've had 2 XB 2nd gens. I love them. Can't get the same interior space will m with the size
What happend to the black wheel center caps?
They all finally fell off 😂
@@thebluexb Aw, that upgrade was my fave. Would it still be worth it if there was fix to keep from falling out.
@@ChrizMagadia mine too haha, but still worth it, they stayed on for about three years!
i have 1 2006 xb with 283k miles on it, its been in the family since it came from the dealership back in 06,my grandpa gave it to me back when i was 16
It should power by 1.8 or 2.0 Corolla engine
They are available in Japan, but would be quite slow. The 2.0 wasn’t released.
My mother has had one forever, drives the heck out of that thing. It was a mystery where all the oil went for a while - till I read up on them. They def burn it but hey it's a good vehicle nonetheless....
I love Scion xBs! I first had a few first gens and now have a 2013 10 series. Do you have a link to where you purchased the tail lights? Also, I’m either thinking of getting the HPS short ram intake or the TRD cold air intake. There are videos to purchase each part separately to save money. Is your xB lowered? I was thinking of adding the rear sway bar, front strut bar, and TRD lowering springs. It’s my daily so I don’t want too harsh of a ride. Mine currently has 136K and counting. I upgraded the wheels and tires to Motegi Flow Form wheels with Conti tires. Keep up the great work with the xB content!
Thanks! Imported the taillights from Japan. Either intake would be great! Mine isn’t lowered, I’m happy with the stock ride height. The TRD strut bar is discontinued, but you can still get a DC Sports bar, although I’ve heard they don’t make much difference in handling. The rear sway bar is amazing! I have a video on it if you’d like to check it out! 😊
@@thebluexb Do you happen to have the name of the business where you imported them from? Thinking of getting myself a pair. Also, I like that you changed out the shifter knob. Was it an easy process and any places where you recommend I can purchase shifter knobs?
I have the hps short ram and it's great
I love my xb i have a 10 series 5 speed manual with a rumion front end i love it
I use to own a 2011 Scion xB for four years, before I trade for a brand new 2015 Scion xB back in 2015. So total is 14/15 years of owning Scion xB. And now I had this lifted Scion xB for 3 years with no issues. Making it more useful. These xB are such a fun daily vehicle, it’s easy to maintain, fun to drive, make it more unique, and as an automotive led lighting enthusiast, upgrade to led and getting the right type of led is a must. Lasfit, Auxito, and Sylvania zevo led are my most go to brands. ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥 Now it’s got 86k+ miles with no issues. I tried my best to covered all the parts that needs to be replace. And I miss the PCV and made my xB have up on me. Thanks to my uncle, she’s now run super well. I didn’t even realize it had a rough idle. It did but I couldn’t put my finger why. But all in all, do I want to buy another xB? Ya damn right I do. I want to own 3 xB2.5’s. Lifted xB application Lowered xB application Stock form application. That’s my goal one day. 🙏🏼❤️🔥
I have a 2012 and still love it! Where can I buy that storage organizer? @08:35.
Got it on Amazon!
I have a 2014 XB and I love it
