Janeway is my favourite captain by far. She's a rock for her crew, determined, witty, and so gentle when needed. I doubt another actress could have done this role better than Kate Mulgrew.

As another slight to The WB, perhaps, surprisingly, the most futuristic (to the point of disregarding the past and highways) of the "Treks" is "Enterprise" (OK it was on UPN but still it didn't deserve that coveted network, that show was such dog shit) "Voyager," "Stargate SGI," and "Enterprise" were on par with futuristic. This show had technology and was definitely set in the future completely. "TNG" was sci-fi but it was far more romanticist about the past. One you had the epsiode where Wesley was on a planet with high mast lighting. And Picard's speeches add a very historical escapist feel. "DS9" was almost like "Voyager" but the pre-Dominion episodes, and any that weren't Cardassian episodes, felt more like "Star Wars." But "Voyager" chills with the future aspects in the last season. Maybe it was Bush becoming president, but the finale has the ship flying over a highway-filled Golden Gate Bridge, so even "Voyager" had its moments. So yes "Enterprise" is the most futuristic in almost a bad kind of way. That show is just the epitome of the future but in all the bad ways. Everyone bashes old stuff. "Babylon 5" is iffy. On the surface it appears like a "Voyager"-type show, but the show has "Star Wars"-like moments too. "DS9" was not said to rip off the show for no reason.

I wish Janeway had an Indiana accent.

Herein lies the problem with Voyager as a series... There are no consequences. Even if Janeway damages Voyager, it'll be back next week completely repaired. "The Hull is beginning to buckle..." So Harry, did the damage make it past the closing credits ? Nope. Never does. Voyager was the Star Trek show with the most squandered potential, not because it failed at being good Star Trek, but because it failed at even being good Lost in Space.

Not only superb writing, but in terms of performance, Mulgrew MADE that show. She IS Voyager. Her understanding of the character, her spirit, her work ethic and commitment to the role and the values of Starfleet - it was outstanding, setting a standard which no doubt inspired the rest of the cast. Amazing casting. Thank God the original actress dropped out!

3:16 Janeway's narcissism really lays itself bare in this scene. She's so convinced of the innate superiority of her particular interpretation of Federational morality that she lauds it over Seven of Nine, physically placing herself in a higher position. However, the moment that her worldview is challenged with a credible alternative, she immediately reverts to "I'm the Captain, your superior, and you'll do as I tell you."

Janeway. She's a badass until she's not, then willingly tries to murder another Starfleet officer. When she crossed the line she did so spectacularly. When Chakotay and Tuvok say you are over the line, you ARE.

Tom was expecting Janeway to stay put and plead for her life, seriously? She's the ship's captain,and Queen Aracnia. Aracnia(Janeway)has pheromones that hypnotises men to obey her every command. She used them to entice one of her captors to release her before laying him out cold. She shoots two guards, gets the lightning shield shut down before killing Chaotica. Tom, Harry and the Doctor run only to find that everything is under control. Janeway is like " Of course I am the queen, remember.

This is actually one of my favorite scenes, but Tuvok's nonchalant attitude towards the situation still baffles me to this day. Tuvok is a man of logic and he strongly believes in Starfleet's laws. Even though I though Janeways decision in this moment was dope, balsy, and made for good drama it was indeed reckless, and Tuvok would have been well with in his right to relieve her of her command in this moment. So yeah, this is one of my favorite scenes, but Tuvok inaction kind of baffles me here. Janeway is known on a few occasions to blow her top when she has really been pressed up against a wall and even though Janeyway and Tuvok and good and longtime friends. Tuvok wouldn't allow that to get in the way of his sworn duties. Though Tuvok did on occasion break a few rules himself, but it was more out of sheer principal than it was logic. Like when he listened to the crews cries and went back for Chakotay and Janeway on that planet against his order to proceed towards home. I could ponder this situation all day. I absolutely loved this show. Still sit and binge watch it from time to time.

It was easier to get Sisko angry. It was more dangerous to get Janeway angry.

Ordering two of your own troops to save an enemy IS the action of an irresponsible commander. Seven is absolutely correct, and not for the first time, she's the only one on Voyager who tells Janeway what she needs to hear. Also, even if Seven asked to leave, Janeway probably wouldn't let her. Poor Seven; she was too human for Starfleet.

Out of all the captains of Star Trek, its ironically the two that AREN'T captains of an Enterprise that are the most terrifying to face in a fight. Janeway and Sisko do not fuck around and are more than willing to throw hands when the time comes. I think Sisko *just* edges her out, if only because he had the balls to straight-up punch Q right in the face.
