    What type of scope would you recommend for this type of 22LR shooting? How much magnification and how much vertical/horizontal adjustment do one need?

    • @sgil045
      @sgil045 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jan, Personally and for open class, I would recommend a First Focal Plane (FFP) scope with a modern mil-hash type reticle in it. Magnification wise I would recommend a 4-12x or 3-18x - so something with a good wide field of view at the low end for those really close targets and something with a practical high end magnification for small targets at distances out to 200m. The scope should have a usable internal adjustment of about 13MIL or 40MOA to be able to easily adjust from a 50m zero right out to 200m. Ideally the scope should have a parallax adjustment right down to 25m. Parallax adjustment down to 50m is ok but you will find at the higher magnifications you will struggle to get the target to focus at the closer distances. That maybe what I recommend but open class can be successfully competed with a 3-9x Second Focal Plane (SFP) scope with a MilDot reticle and a bit of preparation… Hunter class can be competed with a simple fixed 4x scope, a 50m zero and a bit of preparation to work out the holds at different distances…

    How do you like the M10? Looks good for me but lack of 6.5 calibers stoped me at TRG 22 in 6.5 Creedmoor eventually.

    • @sgil045
      @sgil045 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      To each their own on the 6.5mm calibre options - they also come in 300WinMag and 338Lapua. Also after market barrels can be manufactured for them. Also the shooter will make more difference than the difference between a 6.5mm and a 6mm, or a .308Win. The M10s are a super nice rifle - possibly the nicest setup i have had the pleasure to have a play with. BUT this rifle is not mine - unfortunately i don't have sufficient disposable income to own one of these awesome rifles.

    what are the scoring on this Stage?

    • @sgil045
      @sgil045 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hits on the orange target is what they are going for. The white targets a penalty target and hits on that are worth a negative score. This stage tests the competitor's skill and also their confidence. They can choose not to shoot the stage and not risk a negative score at all.

    Great video, can't wait to get back to NZ and back into the outdoors with a rifle. At 2:00 the guy loads prior to having a solid shooting platform and slips down the hill, the position seemed awkward and a few were having trouble getting a nice position. Marshall ( I assume the chap behind was there to score and assist safety) could have advised shooters to get set up then load. Overall though looked like everyone was following good drills!

    • @sgil045
      @sgil045 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cheers for watching and the comment - i felt i should reply to it though. This was not a formal shoot on a flat, known distance range. We set up the rules to allow competitors as much freedom as possible to do what they want at each of the shooting positions. The competitor at 2:00 minutes kept his firearm pointing in a safe direction at all times, including when he slipped and hence no comment from the "marshall" was warrented.

    • @thenakinavy
      @thenakinavy 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      sgil045 Thanks for the reply. All these events look like good fun and I will be joining the NZDA on return to NZ. The video has the range put up against the targets, did the participants know the range?

    • @sgil045
      @sgil045 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      thenakinavy Yep, we tell the competitors the target distances during the stage briefing. Some people tunr up without range finders and we did not want to disadvantage them. We do run the occassional event with no range finders and for the hunter (shorter range) events it makes very little difference.

  • @sgil045
    @sgil045 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    We are very lucky to have a land owner who is also a shooter - in fact he placed second overall for the day. A very tricky shoot though - time limits on several positions were too short. Still we learnt some lessons on the organisation and will improve that next time.
