Guatemalan Handweaving
มุมมอง 5422 ปีที่แล้ว
HANDMADE IS ABOUT PEOPLE AND THE MAGIC OF THEIR TRADITIONS Did you know that Mayan girls in Guatemala from the age of seven are taught how to weave by their mothers? Learning to thread the warp and count with precision is important. This becomes the background for the textile or blouse they end up wearing. They weave from memory. They weave designs that have been past down by generation...

    Incredible!!! What is that loom called?

    • @VidaMayaCo
      @VidaMayaCo 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The loom that María is using in your video is called a foot pedal loom or treadle loom. This type of loom is often referred to as a "telar de pie" in Spanish and is commonly used in Guatemala for weaving larger textiles. It's a traditional technique that dates back centuries and is powered by both hands and feet, making it a fully manual process without the use of any electricity and machines. It’s an incredible example of Mayan weaving heritage!
