Nice that you put the single with the album, very cool idea First two Molly Hatchet albums were gold to me in college and I liked the art work. Great job with the tag

I started buying Library Sountrack records around 1997. I've owned thousands over the years, because for the longest time, buying them was the only way to listen to them, unless the record shops let you play them. Up until 2006-2007, most of the very expensive ones of today you could get for 35-80 euro. Very rarely was something 150-200. You quickly learned what to avoid, which labels had lots of trash, but when Jphnny Trunk's book came out, things started to get real crazy. On the really rare stuff, count yourself lucky when you pay less than 300. KPM has hundreds of releases, and maybe 20-25 really worth having, depending on your taste, I only kept around 350, but I'm still after a good handfull ones, almost all italian. Traditionally, Italians have the most amount of great stuff, then France, then the UK and Germany. I might do a video about the topic if I find time. It's fun to see an new generation discovering and embracing, though. cheers

When I started collecting I was disappointed in the quality of the vinyls i was buying. Some good some not so good. Sure they were 2nd hand pennies on the dollar but i wanted my collection to be something i can enjoy and show off to family and friends. I stopped buying bulk quantity and concentrated in building my collection around quality. Every vinyl record in my collection stand is playable and enjoyable. The ones that were beat up half a crate passed down to a niece who is starting her own collection up.

Interesting ... I was a Garbage Man for about 10 Years picking up Household Garbage in Cans in the 1980's people were throwing their records in the trash , Most times it would be a small stack on the lid , sometimes they were mixed in the can . I got a pretty good collection of mostly 70's and 80's stuff from the Garbage . I found Many of the ones you show here . From My experience there were 2 KINGS of the Garbage , KISS - Always totally Thrashed and Neil Diamond - Mint played once . Never ant Beatles or Elvis in the Trash .

@8:00 - Polydor Canada released albums with 'textured' paper covers that are unique and cool - they did it with Disraeli Gears , it's hard to find as the special paper is slightly more fragile than a normal slick , and it's a little more dull and when gets dirty it looks worse . I think it might be a regional difference in pressing as I have another Canada first press and it has a smooth brighter paper cover stock - The polydor pressings were heavyweight and usually sounded pretty good. Very wide stereo separation on the Canada press - Bakers drums are pushed a bit too far back for my taste but it still sounds amazing.

Soul and funk records, similar to 70s hard rock & metal, also got beat to hell due to being played heavily and partied with. I bought a used Deep Purple In Rock a few years ago that had 50 year old marijuana residue in the seam of the gatefold. Does a copy of Carole King's Tapestry exist that isn't heavily ring-worn, or Joni Mitchell's Court & Spark that isn't filthy due to that tan cover?

I have some Doors albums that are pretty thrashed. I have two copies of their debut, one was a later 1980s pressing but unplayable with lots of skips, and an early pressing (gold label) that is at least playable but the cover is pretty thrashed. I'm certain that any 1980s hair metal album would be likely in beat shape given how popular they were in parties. I expect Grand Funk Railroad albums to be trashed given they were popular with teenagers back in the 1970s and they weren't exactly known for taking care of records. Surprisingly most of my Grand Funk vinyl is in rather good shape. I have Zappa albums in all conditions. I have Freak Out that is pretty trashed and crackly but no skips, same for Burnt Weeny Sandwich, but his later '70s like Over-Nite Sensation, Apostrophe, and One Size Fits All are in great shape.

I usually grab beater white albums of if I can find them cheap. Usually I can take a pencil eraser to the ringwear and it cleans up very well. Also with all my creedence records I try and grab laminate sleeve copies, which are usually in way better condition then non laminate. I just picked up an OG copy of “Crimson and Clover” today at a thrift store. As per usual it was pretty trashed. It’s a place holder for now. Psyc-rock albums from this time seem to all be trashed. As for gimmicks covers, the two that popped into my mind are Georg Harrison’s Extra Texture and The Wailer’s Catch a Fire. I thought I had a copy of "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" but I looked and it turns out that I don't. It's that kind of record, a novelty you might pick up on a nostalgic whim when you come across it in the $1.99 bin, which is probably why copies are usually not in such good shape. I place Iron Butterfly alongside bands like Steppenwolf and Vanilla Fudge, proto-metal Atco and ABC Dunhill acts that had a hit single or two and were briefly popular (showing up on TV variety shows) when I was about 11 years old, sold a lot of records very quickly, but didn't sustain major career success. We didn't know how to categorize their music at the time, but these early "hard rock" bands were soon eclipsed by the heavier likes of Cream and Black Sabbath, so people tend not to take them very seriously anymore. Because people didn't treat them with much reverence, theirs were the first albums to fill cut-out and bargain bins in used record stores...
