Missing: New Line Dub (I have a copy but I deleted it off my hard drive and didn't feel like re-downloading it for this video) Surprisingly, Police Story 2 has as many dubs as the first film which is really funny to me personally. Anyways I thought I'd do this quick and dirty comparison as unlike SpaceHunterM's brilliant coverage of the first movie's history, there isn't that much documentation...

It's so strange. The widescreen has more horizontal image and the fullframe has more vertical image. It seems the movie was filmed for both ratios and both are cropped in some way. Is there a version of this movie with no cropping at all?

The one thing you could never fault laserdiscs for is the quality of their audio tracks. The streamline dub is... very of its time, but its a classic, and I'm glad to hear it in such stellar quality. Thanks for the upload!
Nice stuff. Too bad Funimation couldn't use this. Btw, Laserdiscs have PCM audio, correct?
depends, early laserdiscs were pcm but most were either dolby surround, dts, or analog

@GabePickles3837 depends, the digital tracks (ac3, dts) tend to be near cd quality while the analog tracks tend to be close to modern digital lossless

These wasn’t shot open matte….it’s obvious that the wide screen has more picture left and right so open matte is a non approved directors version with the possibility of seen mics on the top of the picture

It should be stated the Dragon Ball films were exported in the wrong color space like most of Toei films, they look substantially better if you correct that, they're exported for DCI-P3 but obviously that's being interpreted as Rec709, which shifts the image yellow/green due to the different white point. Tint wouldn't be present in theater reshowings, as that's what DCI is for. They've been doing this for over ten years... 💀

Very interesting. I was made aware that the Laserdisc has superior audio for a long time now. Also, can we please talk about the animation in Akira? It honestly has the best animation I've ever seen in any anime ever! I mean, look at how fluid it is! It's like a Disney Renaissance movie! TMS really outdid themselves with their work in Akira as well as their western works like Animaniacs and Batman. I honestly wish more of their work as well as all other animations studios would have similar high quality animation. And if we can't for the television anime, at least for the movies. Too bad we can't always have good things.
There's no excuse for poor preservation of an important dub like Streamline's Akira dub even if people prefer Pioneer's. also yeah akira's animation pretty neat
@@spo0nofficialApologies for what I said earlier. It's admittedly a dumb thing for me to say because I've seen other bad English dubs before (And do think they should be preserved properly) and haven't seen this dub in it's entirety yet and you convinced me to change my mind. Btw, I noticed that the audio on the Blu-Ray is at the original pitch despite the poorer quality. On other uploads I saw, it was slightly lower pitched. Is the Blu-Ray audio just like the one on this upload? I need clarification on this. Also, am I the only one who thinks the Blu-Ray audio sounds slightly compressed?
@GabePickles3837 the blu ray mix just sounds compressed and sounds exactly this upload, i have no clue where the lower pitch uploads come from but that is not the original pitch
