Yeah bud, all of the new iron is top drives and iron roughnecks with automatic catwalks and walking packages. Welcome to the modern age. I worked free swinging block Kelly rigs with Double D tongs and all the old shit for 8 years before I ever saw a top drive. We don’t drill 10K wells in two months anymore bud. We drill 25,000’ in 9 days with the new technology. Sitting their running your mouth from a smart phone. Probably couldn’t type a letter on a type writer! Lol. Same principle. It’s called evolution of the industry son

Yeah, your comment was worded poorly. This video isn’t about all the THIRD PARTIES. It’s about the real Rig Life. Like…. The guys that actually live and work on the rigs and do the job that enables all the third parties with much easier duty to have an easier, decent paying job. The oilfield wouldn’t be the oilfield without the guys that DRILL THE OIL 🤷🏼♂️

I’m kinda curious about any other derrick hands that would stay on the pit to pour a nice bar slug so my floor hands could be nice and dry(and clean) during the trip while I’m hauling a*s upstairs! Kinda funny now.

@@derekkueter7679 Man It Was SO GHETTO! it was an old DHS rig that burned down. They barged it up to King Salmon, AK. From Seattle. We retrofitted the rig with ghetto wind walls, a boiler system and everything else. Literally built WOODEN wind walls around the mud pits. Big ol 1200BBL mud system. Still hit -60 / -70 in winter. We Froze Our A**’s Off!

My husband did this work, he worked all positions, finally he almost got killed, and has been in a wheel chair for 35 years. He still has nightmares of some of the bad days.
Tell him an old floor hand says hey boss, and look toward home now, he's home. No more looking around the house and hugs going out on hitch, wondering if we're gonna come back alive. God Bless.

When I worked floors in 08 I would eat 2 to 3 pounds of pretty much nothing but meat per day, and always lost at least a pound a day for every day I was on a hitch. One hitch I lost 23 pounds in 14 days. You can't eat enough to maintain your weight on floors. At least I never could.

Good work guys but he derrick hand should have stabilized the stand by holding and steading it at the top stopping it swinging there. Each inch of swing at the top is multiplied down the length of the stand (12" X 90') at he bottom on the floor. That little bit of attention makes the job of the floor hands so much easier and safe. Derrick hands, do this and you will never have to buy another drink. Your crew will take care of that.

223 stands for us, 90ft per stand, 30ft pipe 3x = 2 stand

The kids is a beast! But yeah man learn how to use sash cord on each side of the elevators when going in with collars cross them over in front of you and throw your right foot out on the collar and pull they will latch right up! No more climbing. But good job and by whatever means you did it.

In the U.K. It's minimum 15k ( 90k per year) bare in mind it's only for six months u have the other six off
Ye well I get it why they are paid so good, but to me that kind of job where smallest mistake could severely injure you or even cost your life....just not worth it...I value work safety higher than any paycheck
