The African Banjo Meets the Irish Jig
This is Cedric Watson on gourd banjo singing an American colonist folk song 'Darlin Cori'. The gourd banjo was developed from the molo, a Yoruba stringed instrument played by the West Africans enslaved there.
In combination with the African banjo, bluegrass developed from the the jigs and reels played by Scottish and Irish colonists of the Appalachian region.
