if you wanna make a pt 2 i highly recommend Natsuno klaxon Junichi Inagaki and Sukiyaki by Kyu Sakamoto. not sure they rly count as city pop but they give a similar feeling of nostalgia :)

REVIEW 🌸🎐 : Lady pink panther has always been such an underrated city pop track by many western fans, as are many of the city pop tracks with male vocals.. Have always found that trend interesting. That’s why I really appreciate Ginger Roots reincarnation of the genre. The male vocals really create a complete different vibe than typical bubbly or dreamy anri style tracks. The men carried their weight with a certain groove and passion. Not to slight the female artists AT ALL. Mioko Yamaguchi and Yuri Kokobu have made some of my favorite songs of all time out of ANY genre! And YUKIKA’s nostalgic revival of the genre is ADORABLE, fun, and very close to my heart.

This whole playlist reminds me of a very beautiful girl I met back in summer of 1987 in Odaiba. It was a very humid weekend that we mostly spent drinking iced coffee and sitting on a bench looking at the water making gentle waves. It was love at first sight and we promised we’d marry each other despite neither of us knowing more than 5 words of each other’s language. And on the day I was due to fly back home I called her to ask when we’d see each other again. She never picked up and I never heard from her again. How I miss her to this day. Also, I was born in 1994 and I’ve never been to Japan.
