Hi Dermot, was watching your video and you mentioned my grandfather John Creed. Seems you are related also. Was wondering if you have any other information regarding my grandfather. You are probably busy but thought I would ask 😀👍
Excellent Dermot. Well done.
The butter and the spuds.....
The same reason they came to England
The Irish people want give a Change,
Great videos Dermot.
Paddy Reilly was a real IRA man. He was involved heavily in actions against crown forces in east Cork and West Waterford. He was known particularly for the mine on the new line in Youghal which blew up a military band. The other fella, Fitzgerald, was a British sympathizer who go into a drunken fight with a free state sargeant in a pub in Youghal and went on the run. He meet up with Paddy Reilly who gave him a gun. He was visiting home in Youghal one evening. When he was returning towards Youghal bridge he was challenged by an 18 year old free state sentry who was alone guarding a post. Fitzgerald charmed the young soldier to drop his guard and proceeded to shoot him dead with the revolver. 3 weeks after he went on the run he was caught with the revolver, confessed to shooting the young soldier and executed after his trial. In an interesting folklore note... The young sentry was an only son of a widow from Fermoy. It's said that she cursed Fitzgerald that one of his progeny would suffer the same fate from a gun. In the 1960s /early 70s a young man, and a relative by blood was accidently shot with a .22 rifle out the slob bank in youghal. He survived.
Thank you very much for this video. I am hoping to find out more about my ggg grandmother who came from Rathdown Union Workhouse.
lovely fireside videos BUT how is it possible with a name like power to have zero norman especially or even viking dna…seems a complete contradiction…the original De Paor being totaly norman.a fully gaelic adopted son given the sirname power maybe🤔
my dad …two nans and two grandads among orhers are buried there…returned with my young family from abroad after 14 yrs and was shocked…it’s arguable that it being surrounded by industry on 3 sides could be helped… but the forsight to plant some big trees 60 yrs ago was missed…no green areas however small anywhere…just grave after grave crowbared in everywhere but most shocking was the general unkempt tardiness of the place…looked like a small building site almost in some places…sorry to say.thanks for the upload.
Wow thanks for the details you put across how even when a country gains it's independence the bitterness of who some people or politicians can erode hope and the ability to create a new country because of who was or was not their side I also know these beliefs can rip a family apart as I had great uncles and aunts who till the day they die never spoke to some family members. Long live Ireland and to her son's and daughter's ❤️💪✌️❤️
The allegation that Cosgrave responded that the British wanted them dead is about as reliable as the detail that the band boys were in a bus. An amnesty had been granted in January but the die hards of the Irregulars wanted to continue the Civil war so executions resumed.
Good man Dermot, We need to keep the truth out there. Half of eight is four. What about the records that were burnt by our own people. There was stories in them records that would have been damaging to the elite in both parties and especially to both church as well as the English gov.. ✊☘️
lovely
Thank you Dermot for the great information. I have ancestors, by name, in a direct line to king Henry i and Irish kings back to the year 495 AD. Regards, Rick
That was very interesting
Glad you enjoyed.
❤❤❤❤❤
My grandfather was Michael O’Mahoney born 1917 in Waterford and died in July 1940 in a submarine, the HMS Salmon, off the coast of Norway 💚
Beautiful Dermot you should have joined monks at mount mellary. Just back from there love staying there it gives such peace to the soul. Remember you in Simon good old days of Showboat and Joe O'Shea's, great memories of those days, I'd have withdrawal if I didn't get to hear and see your band on Thurs and sat😁, and truthfully you guys were better than some that were making it to top of the charts. I'm still friends with Georgie Brett from tangents, so sad about his brother Timmy. Enjoying your history Vlogs too.
ive been wanting an indebt knowledge of the Butler - Boleyn connection. thanks
Rocky mills legendary entertainer and beautyful human being, you could not guess how many people this man sang to over all the years as the worlds first Elvis impersonator and also rocky and the band gave selflesly of themselves at countless charity nights and never had to be asked twice, eaten cake is not always forgoten. rocky; thank you once again ye legend.
Jesus. People died without help in them days.
The Norman,s were Christian Vikings decendants of Rollo and Vikings that took Paris and traded off for land at Normandy they likely all related

Hi Dermot my irish Curri'n ancestor fought with Mothla Mac Faoai'n at Clontarf, I live in New Zealand I'm the 5th generation Curreen I've had dna ancestry done and it shows 8% Scandinavian, 65% irish Scottish the rest is from my mom Polynesian maori. I'm surprised sometimes by the fact I ever was born at all considering the many battles fought in the past. Ide like to see a Burton dummy one day who knows. Nice one.
Excellent videos. My mum’s parents came to London England probably around 1920 from Waterford. I’ve been researching records, censuses for some time. My grandfather had died aged only 51 long before I was born, and my grandmother died when I was about 9. It’s staggering and humbling to go back in time to find out more about the lives lived. Your videos help set the social, economic and political context. Thank you.
Incredible learning more about where my family started

Butter was mixed with sugar and swallowed to sooth a sore throat but obviously it helped to lubricate the esophagus so it was pretty logical looking back. Vicks Formula was a luxury.
A good historic story told well.
Very interesting account of Anne Boleyn Dermot, and As my mother used to say, " Oh, he was a divel". The Thomas Crowell dramatization series some years back highlighted Henry's unjust treatment of her and painted her as an unfortunate victim.
Great job Dermot. I read a book once about how Meager and Mitchel escaped from Van Deamons Land and it was fascinating and quite the undertaking.
My great great grandfather was sent out in 1800 to Australia on the Minerva a rebel convict ship after the 1798 rebellion in Ireland. His wife was with him and she died in childbirth not long after arriving in Sydney . He was supposed to have been descended from an Ancient Irish Norman/Welsh/Irish knights family and there is a castle in Ireland Enniscorthy castle..Little is known of his 1st wife Catherine but her son survived, my great great grandfather and was brought up by a selected convict servant who then had 4 more children with my GG Grandfather. The Grandfather was able to purchase acres of land in the now Campbelltown area and later Windsor where he successfully managed to farm. The boys all grew to own farms/properties as well and later went to the Monaro region where they had hundreds of acres and are still farming there through thick and thin. They were the original legendary Snowy Mountain men known for their horsemanship skills. Another of my grandfathers came from the Munster region of Island Tipperary a well known rebel region. All were very proud of their Irish heritage and preserved their Irish culture as best they could. They even contributed to donating land to the Catholic church to build schools/churches and to the Saint Marys Cathedral in Sydney.
There is a section in a museum in Sydney dedicated to these young Irish girls who were sent to Australia as domestic servants, and wives (there was a shortage of women in the colony and many were selected to be married to protestant etc bachelors.) They are are depicted that many of these girls were desired as useful as they were clean, obedient and good workers. This may have been the fate of some but not all. Thank you for a more accurate and realistic account to that history of these girls than is being fully told in Australian museums.Just another bit of hidden history by English revised rewritten ignored or sanitized Australian history. The history and contribution of the Irish in Australia is indeed significant, much as the English Establishment have tried to cover it up. You won't hear of this Irish history being told in History lessons in Australian schools.
I'm a Carlow Quaker 😊
Its amazing what you can hear in the silence. Especially in a time when there is so much noise and over stimulation.
Shame we focus and promote more on the Norse history in Ireland than our Gaelic history
very interesting video, brave men and women who fought for Ireland. It will be a Ukrainian flag flying at the memorial if NATO brings in anymore voters for Fine Gael. interesting to see if the new NATO planters infiltrate the St Patricks day parades. Charity organised "covertly" the new plantation.
My maternal Grandfathers lineage came to Ireland with Raymond LeGros. It appears via marriage to his sister. They were Norman knights..
Many from Waterford ended up on Spike Island.....Tom O Neills book..Spike Islands Republican Prisoners 1921 record their names and arrest record number.
Thank you for the great video, I've read a few descriptions of it and had no idea on that road where the rail bridge was. Also I wasn't sure on the other locations.
Thank you Alex, glad you enjoyed
Outstanding Dermot 🙏🏻
Thanks John glad you enjoyed.
I've heard but can't verify that my surname Terry is from the Waterford area and might be Viking.. Is there anything that you might already know or could easily find out and tell me about this ...? I would appreciate anything you can offer thank you in advance..
The problem is Michael That many names are corruptions of another name..the name Terry dosent ring a bell with me It is certainly not a common name in Waterford.im sorry I can't be of better help.
@@waterfordviking1 thank you so much.. I do appreciate your reply, and input.. I will keep trying.... Love your videos they are brilliant, keep them coming..🙏❤
