If you buy the Nija V your Nikon z6II will record 10 bit log footage to the external recorder. If you send the camera back to Nikon they will unlock the pro res raw codec which is 12 bit video. The 10 bit looks amazing and the 12 bit is great too but it is a larger file and will require more processing in post. In this video I used the Nikon log to rec 709 LUT as an acquisition LUT and didn’t do any other color grading to it.

@@Rdubcreative So when I get the Ninja V and have the camera back from Nikon do I set my Z6II to output 10bit and then on the Ninja V set the recording to Apple ProRes Raw. How do I convert the video from Nikon N-Log Raw to Nikon Log? And after that's done do I load the converted video into the video editing software and use a Rec709 LUT? The codecs for recording and conversion etc..is confusing to me. I was used to having a Panasonic GH5 before I bought my Z6II and simply selecting 10bit 422 400Mbps video recording in camera and selecting HLG it was easy. Plus can you record 10bit on the Atomos Ninja V without sending the camera back to Nikon? Do you have to send it to even record in 10bit on the Ninja V or do you only have to send it to Nikon when you want the 12bit recording?

@@djteknovibe93 so if you you buy the atomos ninja and connect it to the z6II you will automatically have 10bit 4:2:2. Here is some 10 bit video I shot: instagram.com/reel/CdXSq1-DTx1/? That is using the Nikon provided rec 709 LUT. The biggest advantages to the 12 bit I am noticing is that editing speeds are no different than 10bit video. But the ability to color grade is much more noticeable. Having said that you can easily switch between recording settings in the Ninja V if you want smaller sizes. I edit in final cut and the Pro Res Raw codec works well in there. in the information window when I bring media in I can select my Raw to Log conversion LUT as well as apply a camera lut at that time or later on in editing. One other thing I really appreciate about the Pro Res Raw is the ability to fully control white balance in post as well as ISO.

You purchase Atomos Ninja for your Nikon Z6(II) then you need also purchase: 1. batteries for the Ninja, 2. charger for the batteries for the Ninja, 4. godd quality HDMI cable, 5. SSD drive for the Ninja and the proper attachment to mount your Ninja onto your Nikon Z. Also you need docking station to download files from SSD to your computer. That is minimum setup to shoot 10 bit video with Nikon Z and Atomos Ninja. In fact soon you realise that you need also: 6. ND filter/s for Nikon, 7. camera cage for Nikon to mount the Ninja properly without risk of breakng hotshoe of the camera, 8. more power supply for Nikon and for Ninja - preferalbly V-mount batteries, charger for V-mount batteries nad cables to power Ninja and Nikon from V-mount batteries. Then you need prober bags for all of this stuff and you are read to go. Oh - wait! You realise then that its all so heavy, so you need proper tripod with proper video head and a car to transport all that to the place you want to start recording your video. I forgot to mention sound equipment yet... :-)

this was just with my GoPro Hero8. shooting 4k, 25fps, ISO 1600. On my blog I have photos up that I took of surfers. In efforts of trying to capture action I was using a f2.8 lens at .25 of a sec shutter speed and 32000 ISO .. let me know if that helps!
