Freewing F-22 Raptor 80mm EDF
Familiarization flights after its maiden. I have 8 flights on it so far and the WOW factor on this model awesome. As the 70mm Freewing F-22 and 80mm Gripen with thrust vectoring are tops in their class, so is this model.
I already had a spare 80mm EDF fan unit and 100 amp ESC available and am accustom to the Spektrum AS3X+ gyro stabilized receiver set up, so I opted to buy the ARF version. Installation of the EDF and ESC unit is extremely easy. It is a very short run from the EDF bay to the battery / Rx bay to run ESC and throttle wires.
The ARF version does not come with the Freewing gyro box. The wooden platform for their gyro made a perfect place to mount the Spektrum 8 channel receiver.
I used 3300, 3700, 4000 and 4500 mAh lipo batteries placed in the rear most position during all of my familiarization flights. The AS3X+ stabilization allows for a rearward center of gravity (C/G) which optimizes high alpha maneuvering. My model balances approximately 15mm behind the molded C/G markings.
The upgrades to the model includes molded plastic parts and enhanced lighting features, such as the dual nose gear lights, wing marking lights and the cockpit HUD unit are highly visible.
I am working through the performance flight testing and am excited to test the boundaries. So far, this 80mm version has all the versatility of the 70mm and the stability of the 90mm.

Sometimes a camera man but always a flyer and innovator, fellow club member shows the Freewing F-15C Eagle with dual thrust vectoring units going through its initial 3D maneuvering testing. Unfortunately my camera was not up to the task of getting a close up view, but one can clearly see the F-15 doing some fifth generation fighter moves. Definitely adds "Wow" factor. Too much fun.

Low and slow with the 90mm F-15C. Too much fun shooting approaches down on the deck and slow. The take off was reminiscent of the F-14 opening scene from The Final Countdown.

My homage to Brian Sanders and the Argonaut Sea Fury demo. While the Avios Super Tucano model is a far cry from a Sea Fury, it does have unlimited vertical performance and with the AS3X firmware upgrade it will hold a stable knife edge pass at medium throttle positions from end to end. This model will do all the scale warbird aerobatics and much more. (See the Two Brothers RC channel for 3d man...

AS3X and the teeny tiny camera to get these fun low passes. Some of these passes were pretty low and twice we scraped the underbellies of Mirages. The speed of the passes is deceiving as we were going no more than 1/2 to 2/3rds throttle. My 80mm Mirage EDF "lawn darted" soon after these vids while I was just trying to get some B roll shots. Fortunately the 80mm F-22 EDF was just released and I ...

A year end or beginning compellation videos of some fun landings with the Freewing 80mm Gripen, 64mm F-22, 70mm F-22, 80mm Mirage, 90mm F-15, 70mm F9F Panther and the MiG-29. All of these models have had the Spektrum AS3X firmware upgrades, which really helps lock in the landings and helps keep things stable in the final approach. Even to the point of saving some pretty "sketchy" landings. Agai...

Here is another of Dan's F-22 Raptor flights really wringing it out. He managed to get a little more Elevator throw by moving the stabilator ball link to the inner hole position. Max throws, C/G moved back and AS3X providing the stabilization for the aft C/G allows the F-22 to get thrown around the sky almost as if it had thrust vectoring. I would not try it without AS3X stabilization and famil...

The Freewing F-15C Eagle 90mm HP EDF received a Spektrum receiver firmware upgrade from AS3X to AS3X (Plus). I recently updated my 10 CH Spektrum receiver to AS3X , which has been mentioned on other channels. The performance in stabilization is significant. In my other models equipped with tailerons, I have found it can get a little "twitchy" on the ROLL axis when on nose high landing approach....

Well summed up description! I couldn’t agree more. My poor 70 is going to get lonely. Next project is to separate my wing surfaces for more cool flying effects. Glad to know I’m not the only one enjoying lighter packs.
Thank you. I don't have the video out yet, but I was doing a medium speed, high bank turn at 1/3rd throttle; simulating the "Deadman's Curve", turning base to final landing approach, and pulled the elevator all the way back to force a wing drop tip stall. No stall, just flipped back on itself. Added power and flew away. Unbelievable.
😂yesss! Thrust tube who?! We don’t need no stinking tubes! That’s awesome again! What size/brand are you using? I’d love to try this on my f15. Please share whenever you can. Thanks!
He is using the Freewing 8S 1350 90mm EDF unit set up with a 120 AMP ESC and the 70mm thrust vector units from a salvaged Freewing SU-35. Apparently Banana Hobby has similar 70mm thrust vector units which can be used. The original F-15 end nozzles to complete. Enjoy! 😃
Hands down my favorite jet to just do takeoffs and landings with! Nice job sharing ! Did you ever get some printed nozzles?…
Thank you. Nothing yet on the nozzles. My F-22 80mm just arrived. 😃
That is a nice bird! Always wanted one, the twin 80 MiG29!
Panther butter!
So cool! I love what you did with the paint!!!
Thank you. Tamiya Gunship Gray spray paint. Simple masking off the original light gray outer edges of the wings, tail and vertical. Sprayed and re-applied decal set from MotionRC.
Bada$$ Paint job! What color is that…? Totally agree with the results. I ran servo throws130 then 150 with elevators then longer arms and just dug out a bit of foam. Way too much now but it’s still cool
Thank you. Tamiya Gunship Gray spray paint for the top surfaces.
Congrats! Nice shots with your nose cam setup again. If you can you may wanna try out the 3d printed thrust tubes . I’ve only flown mine with them and it gives so much punch compared to others without. I posted a short on the take off difference. BTW, did you make the nose camera attachment yourself…?
Thank you. I've heard the modified nozzles help with additional thrust. I do not have a 3D printer.. yet. The nose RunCam Thumb camera on a very simple mount. I usually buy a 2nd nose cone with the models I plan to record and glue a small diameter carbon fiber tube. I then slide the camera mount into the tube. Nothing fancy. I just happen to like that particular camera angle.
@ brilliant! Thanks! Gotta try that one day. Hopefully someone can print you some tubes up soon!
Have you still for the original connecting rods for the elevator servos? Not sure if I trust the cable ties securing the rod to the servo.
Yes I am still using the cable ties as it originally came. I was going to replace with the small diameter fuel tubing but never did simply because I got distracted by other projects.
Nice view! What camera did you use?
RumCam Thumb. Nice and light to mount on the nose since it requires external power source. Insta360 was just too pricey for me. I just run a power lead from the camera to a separate external BEC and plug that into the balance plug of the lipo.
Flight was good! Sound, not so much. 4 plus minutes of nothing but wind I can get by driving with my head out of the window.
I know right. Got to get the buffer on better. 🙂
Buzz fkn Lightyear 😂
interesting to watch the wings flex from the loads
Practicing Brian's Argonaut show. 😃
Nice fly
😃👍
Cool, but audio is disguising
I know, right. I can never seem to get a good balance. But, all for fun anyway. 😀
Wicked !
Beautiful plane. Beautiful flight! Well done!
It's just my opinion, but I think the original prop looks better than the replacement. Also, the sound the original makes sound louder and more like a turbine. On the other hand, the replacement is always something to consider for performance. The cost of an original replacement prop is only $15, which I consider a bargain. I am curious to know if you noticed any change in performance with the replacement prop.
I know right. The 5 blade has a distinctive sound to it, which is cool. I was less concerned with the cost as I was about availability and about being a 6 piece blade / hub assembly. If you've ever seen a vid where a blade gets loose and the whole thing goes off balance before the pilot can throttle off, YEESH. The whole motor departs and takes the front end with it. I prefer the 5 blade for looks and sound, but use the 4 blade because it's one piece. Maintenance the 5 blade periodically and it should be fine. As far as overall performance, it is much quieter, yet still pulls hard. Unlimited vertical and power use consistent with the 5 blade.
thanks!
What does PNF mean?
Where did you get the camera and how did you place it there? Any special set-up for it?
I used a RunCam Thumb mounted on a homemade saddle mount rubber banded to the rear fuselage. Then I ran the wires to the battery bay under the canopy. It did not work very well, given all the vibration, but I thought it was okay until I figured out something better. Plug-N-Fly (PNF) or Plenty Nuf Fun 😃
Best 70mm out right now. 🎤
I know right. Tough to beat the flight performance and flight times on just 4000 mAh. 😃
@@2wdUnknown tried a 5k today. I didn’t like it. Too nose heavy. Those wires gotta go one day.
Does anyone notice how bad those rudders act when you use it, especially on turns🤦🏽♂️ im not liking it
@@5.2jay sorry don’t understand what do you mean when you say “bad”?
@@5.2jay I use RUDD / AIL / ELEV to make my turns. A habit I picked up from having to use TAILROTOR on helis. I have my RUDD throws set at 130% so mine are quite sensitive, but it's how I prefer it.
What are you running in there
great footage, thanks for sharing.
Whoaaaa cool!!
Nice!
"anytime one can hang a couple of mini-guns on an attack aircraft, just do it." --words to live by
From a distance it looks like you have Sanders' Smoke Generators on wingtips. Very nice.
I am studying the Brian Sanders Argonaut Sea Fury airshow routine to one day re-create it. 😀
awesome man, what plane are the drop tanks from? also you upgraded the stock prop and spinner ?
Thank you. The drop tanks and ordinance is from the Freewing Eurofighter Typhoon. The propeller modification is from the Eflite Draco; propeller, spinner and prop adaptor.
@@2wdUnknown nicely done man.. looks awesome

Das war alles Mögliche aber kein Stall-Test !!!
Great camera placement buddy :) Thank You for the Flight Clip
Nice work! It was good to see you the other day!
Can’t wait to do mine up with the TV setup! Nice job , thanks again for sharing your setups
Does the paint job and electronics come with it?
The orange and grey camo are decals you may order from Flite Test. If you buy a combo kit, you get the model, motors and ESC's. The radio and receiver are separate.
Where did you place your batteries and what did you use for battieries
I use the SMC 5300 and 5900 mAh lihv batts. The 1st batt is in the forward battery bay. The 2nd is in the rear most battery bay.
@@2wdUnknowndoing the same here for battery placement
What is the pedigree of the TV modification?
I took a salvaged Freewing thrust vector unit from their SU-35 70mm Twin EDF.
Super cool!! This perspectives are great! What camera do you use? I ordered a Runcam 4 I think... This is something else, but my front gear seems to have problems. The gear comes out with the pin that is inserted to the motor mount. I though about glueing it but its nonsense because it needs to steer the wheel... The only thing I could to is take the landing gear completely out but you need to unglue some parts on the fuselage :( Mine is the V2 but with improved lading gear as yours. I have bought it second hand so I don´t know how they work on the inside. The ones from FMS are different because the pin is screwed into the motor mount... Have a great day and keep filming :D
Thank you. I use a RunCam Thumb. It is very light but needs an external battery source. I built a light weight pedestal mount on a separate nose cone and run the power wires into the battery compartment. I have a separate UBEC and plug it into the balance plug of the main battery to power the camera. The nose gear connecting pin is 3.1 diameter but I haven't found the same size from Freewing. My thought is to somehow make a regular one fit from another nose gear retract. Still working on that one.
Great job and video. Did you add 2 channels and use a mix ? Or just y cable with expo and tv just on all the time?..
I just used a 3 wire Y cable for the RUDD / TV YAW / nose STEERING. A 3 wire Y Cable for both ELEV servos and the PITCH TV. No EXPO. Kept it simple and have it on all the time.
@@2wdUnknown thanks for your response! This is a really cool mod I can’t wait to play with.
Perfect 👍🏾 thanks I’m in! I’ve got 3 f16 I haven’t even flown yet ! I’m on it!
The entire installation does add some weight to cause the center of gravity (C/G) to shift back, but I was able to easily compensate by moving the lipo battery forward to get the C/G back into the prescribed range.
Woop Woop!!!!!!! Thanks for this!!!
Just what I was looking for! Good flying and awesome audio, no gibber-jabber just the plane.. I just ordered mine an hour ago! :) Thanks for the video!
Did you take the su35 nozzle and put it on it?
Yes. It was actually pretty simple.
Build video??
I didn't do one at the time because I wasn't sure it would work. Now that it does, let me see about putting something together. It is actually pretty simple.
Just uploaded short "How to" vid. Hope it helps.
Great Video, what onboard camera do you use?
Thank you. Camera is RunCam Thumb.
😎😎😎😎
What do you have to do to make it pinwheel instead of flat spin?
Pull straight up into the vertical then full rudder in either direction. With 50% setting on the differential and the C/G set per the manual, the model does a vertical pin wheel. Pretty awesome stuff.
incredibly smooth! good work
Thank you 👌
