Howdy everyone!
I am documenting my farm's journey from its conception to share progress with family, friends, customers, and anyone interested in watching my dream continue to grow.
I began farming in 2014 and started my own farm in October 2021.
I believe everyone deserves access to quality food at an affordable price from someone they can trust. As a farmer, it is my duty to raise and treat the animals in my care respectfully and responsibly, create a healthy product, and take care of the Earth while doing so.
Along my journey I will share tips, funny stories, how-to's, and much more. I am excited to document my farm's journey and I hope you enjoy watching the progress! I will post a new video every weekend so be sure to tune in!

The garden is starting to produce and the young roosters are finding their voices!

Still skunk issues but no deaths. The garden is growing great, more chicks arrive, and the first batch of honey is harvested!

This week we have our first large predator attack on the farm ending with several dead chickens.

This week the farmers markets start up! We also get our first ripe tomato and plant fruit trees - apples and pears.

The Cornish Cross hit 8 weeks old this week so it was time to get them on the freezer. With the first farmers markets coming up, it was a week long preparation!

Rain in August makes everything green.
I like the music. Felt like you were in a jungle
I kept up with the squash bugs. Using painters tape to get eggs off of leaves.
That’s happened to me twice. Healthy bird just dies

Yes she is! She’s made some good improvement and can walk now, but it’s like a toddler just learning to walk
Market Moore are my favorite ones to grow.

That damage looks like a weedwhacker, it's how I beat mine up just the same way.
That was my first thought too but the pole looks fine and we never weed eat around the net… I was in Italy when it happened so I have no idea!
Do you have some merchandise like caps or shirts for sale?
I had tote bags for awhile but that’s about it. One of these days I’ll do more

I'm happy you're back home! There's no place like home, especially when it's the USA!! IMHO :) I hate horn worms, but thankfully we didn't have even one this year. Blessings from N. Alabama ♥♥♥
Thank you! I am very happy to be back in the USA! Glad to hear you didn’t have any hornworms. Mine have slowed up but the squash bugs are taking over!

Lost my summer squash and zucchini’s. Strangest thing. I’ve been using slug bait. No slugs. Dug up dead squash and one living in the ground under it. I guess that’s what happened to all of them

We live between Cortona and Orvieto actually. 😂 Although there are farms, most animals are kept indoors unfortunately. I'm kicking off the build of my first meat bird coop to start raising some of my own meat.
Wow!! That’s amazing 😂 Of all the places in the world… the country side out there is gorgeous. I saw a few hives, couple cows, and some sheep. Not much livestock so they must have been put up like you said

First time viewer, really enjoyed the weekly overview format. Good luck with farmers market season. I recently purchased some wood to build a meat chicken tractor but having second thoughts on the design. I have plans for the Justin Rhodes tractor but it only holds 12 birds which seems inefficient. How did you end up with the Suskovich design you're using? Tried anything else?
Thank you! I’ve built several stationary coops for layers. Two for the winter time and two before I bought the farm land but I’ve only used my current mobile coops I’ve built. We tried one design using metal to hold the tarp up and it worked fine but was more work. The conduit is lightweight and easy to work with which I like. The base is made out of 2x4’s. Basically two rectangles propped up on each other with some simple bracing. Each coop is 10x6 and holds 25-30 birds easily if you move them once a day. I wanted a design where I could get in the coop easily if need be. I believe they are around 5ft tall. I can easily pull the coop with no wheels. With this design, I can also easily add nesting boxes if I ever put layers in so there’s flexibility. I’d add wheels if you add a nesting boxes. So far it’s working great for me! Good luck on your build!

How about some night vision goggles with IR illumination to visualize the varmint instead of flashlights?
That would be high tech! I’ve looked into them and can’t justify the cost yet when an ol flashlight gets the job done
The fence shouldn’t touch the grass. I didn’t like using it.
Yeah, the bottom line isn’t hot but just a few inches up is the first hot line. It’s also usually in the grass

When I had my place in TN fisher cats wiped out all 100 of my hens in ONE night. They just kill for the heck of it .

One of my first jobs out of college was doing IT at a turkey processing plant. It was common for my coworkers to know what their pets (turkey) tasted like. :)

Do you shield the chickens eyes so they don't see what is happening to the ones next to them before it's their turn?
