A Lancashire Christmas Walk 2024
@allroutesnorth2183 A walk from Clitheroe to Great Mitton across the River Ribble linking Lancashire with the old West Riding of Yorkshire. Visiting the medieval church of All Hallows with its M.R. James atmosphere and spooky tombs of the Shireburns. Also included are Old Mitton Hall (dating from c.1600), Edisford Bridge, Mitton Bridge, Standen Hey Cross base, and a section of the Roman Road between Ribchester and Ilkley. And not forgetting the New Inn - Clitheroe!

ALFRED WAINWRIGHT ON ORREST HEAD

Filmed in June 2020, close to the 90th anniversary of Wainwright's first Lakeland climb in 1930. AW got off the Ribble bus from Preston and made the short climb up Orrest Head from Windermere train station. Remembering the sights of Windermere village as AW would have seen them and celebrating his first close up view of the Lakeland Fells which changed his life forever.
Cockles to Clitheroe!

On Friday 29th April 2022 I revived an old tradition of the Lancashire town of Clitheroe. The annual mayoral ‘Cockle and Mussel Feast’ dates back to the days of the pack horse trade across the Bowland Fells and into the West Riding of Yorkshire. This involved cycling some seafood from the coast to Clitheroe’s annual mayor making meeting. History really can be a lot of fun!

Filmed on 7th June 2020 which was the actual 90th anniversary of the day in 1930 when AW walked from his mother's house at 331 Audley Range, Blackburn to Blackburn bus station to get the bus to the Lake District for the very first time.
