There’s no drifting, it only automates you when you have corners like these. But in this case the developers forgot to automate that specific path

It doesn't though. It's just a lot of wasted potential. Still miles better than Lost World though.
It's incredible how authoritative this game is, but out of nowhere it gets screwed and you turn around to avoid falling off the map because of this damn path that isn't even 10 meters wide.

Yeah i mostly play Classic Sonic Games and the modern sonic game i have played are Sonic Frontiers Forces Heroes and Adventure 2
this game is so automated, this is literally the only stage that you actually have to avoid falling off the cliff

Other games (or at least other boost games) had drift so that stuff like _this_ wouldn't happen
