Mounting a center console to a 13' Whaler
The one and only tip I have for mounting a center console to one of these boats is to make sure you have a lot of surface area bedded down to the deck to help prevent delamination if you expect to run in rough waters.
Total boat wet edge paint is great! However I would 100% recommend you spray it... it comes out so much better and is much easier to do then you think. A harbor freight spray gun is $15 and does the job well...

Clearwater Creations 2016 Foil
มุมมอง 1.7K8 ปีที่แล้ว
After 3 years of foil design and development the 2016 foil is the smoothest yet. Wooden core reinforced with fiberglass and epoxy makes for a lightweight (roughly 6 pounds) hydrofoil that floats rather then sinks like those expensive carbon ones. A simple board bolts on for a direct feel. Main wing and rear stabilizer bolt on using M6 bolts. Every Foil and board is handcrafted myself out of a d...

What size is the Yeti
Nice job dude
Excellent build ! Did you use 1 part paint or 2 part paint or gel coat ? Thanks.
Good info. I have a 65 16 footer that needs a console and motor. Have had it for 15 years and want to get it back on the water
Perfect!
Would you be willing to make the console and sell it?
Or at least give out or sell the plans for it so I could make one?
They make a 15' with a trough but I love the 13. Nice work
Nice
Your console only head on with adhesive?? No holes through floor??
Correct. Its held on with 3m 4200. The whaler design has nothing to screw into or bolt on to. This is year three and it is on there solid... even after many many many long rough days.
Very nice
How did you attach the console to the deck?
look through some of the other comments. Due to the whaler construction you basically have to glue it (3m 4200).
lots of dead weight!
Will you be making the console for sale ?
great build !
What did you do with the steering cable? I know youre not supposed to make too sharp a bend.
I am not sure how much of the steering cable you can see in the video. The manufacturers says not to bend any tighter than an 8" radius. I have one bend that is about 6" and it has not cause any issues. Very smooth and free turning.
so your console has angle with screws into the deck? what size screws please?
I used screws however I would not suggest using them. There simply is nothing for them to bite into to be effective. I made sure to bed the angle in A LOT of 4200. I would suggest getting the largest contact area possible. I noticed the skin starting to delaminate from pounding waves. I eventually used a thick seam of 4200 around the entire console which has held great.
Did that paint fill any crazing or spider cracks?
I grounded out the larger ones and filled them in with filler. The small spider cracks I left did not get covered by the paint. There are some high build primer paints that will do the job though.
Nicely done!
Can you please list the powder product you used for no slip?
Can you do a full build? I have the same boat and have been trying to figure out a way to make a front and back deck
check out some of the other videos... I showed the basis
Love what you did. What plywood did you use? Was it 1/2 inch for everything?
I used 1/2 inch the entire console.. it was over built so 3/8ths or even 1/4 would have saved on weight. The back deck was 3/4 which worked out great.
@@jamesfiore8620 Thanks for the info!!! I think I would like to attempt something like this for my 13 footer. What fiberglass fabric did you use, and how many layers?
@@lkoecher609 Use epoxy. I just used 4oz glass and did two layers over everything.
Any plans for a platform on the bow?
Awesome what are the dimensions of your console?
Nice, I like it! Just bought an old one myself … I want to convert to center console but don’t want the chase tube.
I hear ya! I did not want it either but the deck was in such good shape I could not justify a way to make a tunnel. For what it is worth, the chase tube never causes an issue. I never find myself getting annoyed or even noticing it.
dude this looks great. i was thinking of the same thing. I'm not this handy tho
dude this looks great. I want to do the same with mine. you want to do it for me????
@jamesfiore8620. Any interest in building another this winter?
Nice
I love it. Do you have any videos of it underway? I’d like to see it underway and how handles in the water.
Handles just like any other whaler. Because the console is so comfortable it is easier to send it hard through rough water (for a 13 whaler that is)
I’m not a huge fan of the large consoles on the 13 whalers , but this one is nice. Very clean and simple
I made several full size mock ups until I decided on this one! I focused on making it extremely comfortable for two people to ride in... it makes everything so enjoyable.
@@jamesfiore8620 my 1966 13 whaler is slowly turning into a clutter lol. After installing the 50 Merc I keep adding random things to it .. I gotta balance the weight a tad more. So far the 15 gallon tank is under the front seat
Very nice build. Im trying to figure out what I'm doing with mine now. This looks awesome
Thanks! Hopefully my build gives some ideas.
Pimpin
haha it feels like it!
Killer build! How is your console attached to the hull? I have the same hull, I like your rear reck solve.
Initially I had 2x2 aluminum L channel sections glued to the deck with 3m 4200 on the inside of the console and then blind screws attaching the console to the L channel. In Marthas Vineyard sound the chop can be crazy and eventually a small portion of the deck near the L channel started to delaminate. So now I have the channels still there in addition to running a bead of 4200 all the way around the console. Really solid now!
Sweet build man!
Thanks! It has totally transformed the boat into something so much more enjoyable.
Awesome build- is that a custom center console?
Yes! 1/2 Hardwood ply with two layers of 4 oz glass and epoxy. The recessed hatches were a pain but look good and keeps everything dry.
James do you have a sketch up of your console you can share?
@@blakeparsons9890 I deleted the CAD files a while ago. It really was not anything complicated.
Looks great! Where are you located? And do you have a price target yet!
Hell yeah! That thing is sick
THIS VIDEO SUCKS
Hey man, I'm looking at your foils as a potential new toy.... how well does the surf foil pump? Love ur videos they're really in depth and helpful!
Hi. Great video. What size is your boat engine?
4:20 like shark skin
e solutions for wooden project is woodprix.
Nice ride James ! isnt that flat board too uneasy to depart from beach ?
I like your pricing and your product but can you glass it for me how much would that cost?
Hi James, sent you an email.....are u still selling the foils kit ?!?! Answer me please ! Hugs
Where was this filmed?
Ok....The first 3 videos I watched of yours did not address how to get started. Then I viewed this video. I give you a "good rating" on the verbal description part, but a VERY poor rating on a video showing YOU successfully coming out of the water. C'mon dude, you are working so hard to promote this cool concept, but falling short on critical video instruction.
Hey James, how do you buy the kit?
How many horsepower is that outboard?
MrPTrog did you find out the HP?
What kind of wood is that? It looks quite clear. I was always taught the darker the wood, the stronger it is
When you're riding, how deep is the foil from surface?
can be anywhere from almost three feet to a couple inches
