Episode 62: Jesse Damon of Silent Rage
Silent Rage formed in 1985 with founding members EJ Curse, Jesse Damon and Mark Hawkins. The band is known for their signature songwriting style of blending melody with hard-driving rock. Silent Rage remains unique from other 80’s bands by having Jesse Damon share the lead vocal duties with Hawkins and Curse.
In 1987 they teamed up with producer/artist Paul Sabu for their first critically acclaimed CD, “Shattered Hearts” and were signed to Chameleon / Capitol Records by industry veteran Steve Brownlee. Silent Rage appeared on three different albums simultaneously that year including the motion picture soundtrack for “Million Dollar Mystery” on Macola Records and the KNAC compilation “Ten Best From the West” on Rampage / Rhino Records. “Shattered Hearts” went on to be #1 on the European Import Charts.
In 1988, Gene Simmons signed them to Simmons Records/RCA and drummer Brian James Fox (White Tiger) joined the band. For Silent Rage’s 2nd release, Paul Sabu and Gene Simmons were chosen to lend their production skills. In 1989 they released “Don't Touch Me There”. That too reached #1 on European import charts. The song “Rebel with a Cause” was released as a single and its video debuted on MTV’s “Headbanger’s Ball “. Next, the band toured with Black Sabbath for the “Headless Cross” tour. In the early 90’s Silent Rage continued touring and writing. They also wrote and performed with other projects: EJ with Doro Pesch and Jesse with Gene Simmons and Kiss. Unfortunately, the grunge scene eventually forced them into a hiatus.
In 2000 Silent Rage re-united to sign a new record deal and added Rodney Pino on drums and released their third new CD, “Still Alive” in 2002. “Still Alive” was produced by Bob Ezrin (Kiss, Pink Floyd, Alice Cooper) and co-produced by Kevin Beamish (R.E.O. Speedwagon, Y&T) and Silent Rage. They made their 1st UK appearance at the Z Rock Festival.
In 2007 Silent Rage signed a new record deal with Frontiers Records for their 4th CD, “Four Letter Word”. It was released in 2008 and produced by Gilby Clarke . The material continued to mesh melody with metal and big memorable choruses. It also featured special guest performances by Bruce Kulick (KISS), Bobby Blotzer (Ratt), Gilby Clarke (Guns N Roses), Dilana (Rockstar Supernova) and even their former drummer Brian James Fox.
Singer & guitarist, Jesse Damon, who we talk with on this episode has also had a storied solo career, releasing no less than seven solo records to date plus a new compilation album, aptly titled “Anthology”.

'Worship You' was the other Adler song on drums, not 'Walk Away', that was an early demo re-recorded...
this is the most in-depth interview about vain, its history, and the future. fantastic questions, and done by people who actually know what they are asking about.
Firstly I think Dirk is 1 of the best singers I have ever heard, and I have heard a lot of them, but also I very much like the knowledge and the opinion about especially VandenBerg and Fates warning....Fates warning is 1 of my alltime favorite bands and I even have a tattoo of them on my right upperarm.....VandenBerg with Bert Heerink was a very special band, it all fitted perfectly and that from a "little" country as Holland !!! "Say a prayer for me" is my favorite song by Hittman, by the way !!!
I just saw this, Thank you so much for the kind words. Bert Heerink was one of my favorite singers ever and I never saw anyone else with them. and thanks for the say a prayer love. One of my faves too.
Thx for this interview.
I'm so happy to have found this interview, guys! I just found out about this band the other day from searching through the Discogs website. I've been trying to catch up on music I've missed since the early to mid-80s. I graduated from high school in 83, joined the military, and then raised a family so I've really been trying to find great bands that I missed. Now that I'm retired, I'm really searching to find more great music and I'm so glad I stumbled upon CITA/Guild of Ages. These guys are so very talented and you can hear the harmony of them working together so perfectly. Danny is the backbone of the group and his voice was/is one of the best male voices I've ever heard. I'm from Ohio and I'm scratching my head to as why I've never heard of this band or its music. I know the music scene was a mess back around the time they started so that was probably one of the biggest problems. Thanks to TH-cam, I have been listening to their albums and now I feel I need to buy some of their CDs. Finding info on the band was rather difficult and I want to thank you guys for conducting & posting this interview. Awesome Job!
Amazing interview! Thank you guys!
PLEASE do a part 2. JM has some amazing stories Thanks for pt 1 though!
Please reply here if you guys do part 2! Love Jeff’s singing on racer x… blasted to static was very good too
Very cool interview. Josh is one of my favorite players. But no news about any new music?
GREAT episode. Which such access to sample music thru streaming so many of what you listed slipped under my radar. Like the Stratovarious and Tony Martin. And a lot to listen to I never heard of. Reminded me of the old Zig Zag days. Going in to buy 2 CD's and leaving with 10 lol

Oh Boy..... So much to say about these lists, LOL.

GREAT AMAZING VOICE AND COMPOSER. DANY SPREAD TYKETTO MUSIC !!!!!
This is really great nostalgia. Love it. I was from Central NJ (Trenton/Hamilton area) and had a good friend named Fran Peterson, who was a Metal fanatic. He would drive us up to the ZigZag record store in Brooklyn and we would buy our Metal albums and Kerrang Magazines. He would buy a lot of merchandise when he was there. lol. I share the appreciation for the music that you love - Deep Purple/Rainbow/Badlands/Riot/etc. and Gary Moore. I got to see Gary live at L'amour one time with Fran. I love when Phil says "Here I am a 62 year old cheering on a 71 year old, and Yet I feel that I'm a 17 years old". LOL. I wish that I could have see that show. I'm a big Glenn Hughes fan, but have never seen him live. I was excited years back when he did that Black Sabbath album and bought tickets to see the show at the Spectrum in Philly. But Glenn had problems then an bowed out(But hey, I got to see Ray Gillen replace him, which wasn't so bad). Again, this was a great Podcast. Thanks
I'm so happy you enjoyed the episode! Thanks for listening!!
Great show,Danny’s a legend !
Very cool. Have always been a Tyketto fan and kind of bummed they don't play much in the USA anymore with Danny living abroad. Fingers crossed they can maybe land on a festival like M3 or Monsters on the Mountain at some point in the future. I was happy to catch them for my first time seeing them on the 2020 Monsters of Rock Cruise and they were fantastic! Thanks for the great interview!
Glad you liked it!
Hey Travis, thanks so much and glad you enjoyed the interview. Danny was great and I have so many great memories of seeing Tyketto. I too, hope they will do more shows in the US in the future. A few new members but still a legacy of great music and Danny's voice still sounding aces!
Killer show gents, absolute love it.
Hey, thanks very much!
Thank you! Glad you liked it.
I interviewed Neil three times with the last being when it was announced he would come back to UFO after Paul Raymond died. Great guy and very interesting to interview. I love the Chapman--Carter era. Great interview guy's.
That's great and thank you!
thanks very much.

Mamas Boys
Good one!..how the hell did I forget that album with Keith Murrell..well add that to the list of Dark Star and Praying Mantis.
Aor / hair metal/melodicrock is a uniquely American form of music and the British / Europeans were just never quite as good at it... Your episode demonstrates this. It's no surprise that Def Leppard was really the only band from the UK that was able to break through to that audience while the rest of the bands mentioned were pretty much also-rans in that market.
This was awesome... especially all the NY accents! I left NY in 01 and like listening to some guys from the neighborhood tell stories. Hittman put on some of the best shows I've seen in L'Amour. Thanks for this!
Good to see you again Tom senior! Hopefully see you at debonair again soon
It is interesting, Rob skipped right past his position as drumming in the general business band 'Northbound' around 1977. It was my first time meeting him, and also the same band I got my start on the 'pro' stage as well. It was quite the journey back in those days. Continued all the way to MY audition in Joshua! 😊
Zddfff
GREAT interview, & I'm excited to hear what Jamie's up to. Jamie & the crew had a HUGE influence on me as a young atheist musician in High School. I caught them live at Bogarts & they were one of the few bands that ever played locally that paid any attention to a nerdy, budding guitarist/songwriter. Their kindness was important to me! Glad you're still at it, Jamie!
Glad you enjoyed the interview!
Great band completely underrated
Totally agreed!
I'm getting the book for Christmas and I can't wait to sink my teeth into it!
Great interview, cheers
SENSATIONAL...great questions and candid answers and reasons for what has happened 🤘🙂🤘
Awesome interview with Ash. Vain are one of the greatest bands ever and Ash is one of the nicest guys in the business 👍
SIR ASHLEY "SMASHLEY" MITCHELL!!! The VERY Best! The Band is better now that they ever were which was amazing. See them at all cost. New record coming and it's going to be a BARN BURNER!
yet another too late to the party artist.. if no respect had come out say, and 87 or even 88 they probably would have had enough ammunition for a second major label album. and then who knows? signing to Island records was a death knell for any hard rock or metal band. other than anthrax, bands went to die there.
Lets go! 😜
Fantastic show folks 👍
Love you since I can't remember...Danny. Anthony. Ed. Joe. Steve. ✌and ❤...#manny
