Spalted Poplar Solid Shell Quinto Tumba Set
This Spalted Poplar Solid Shell Quinto Tumba Set is made of locally and sustainably sourced wood from Athens, GA. Each drum begins as a solid log and is painstakingly hollowed and turned on our custom built conga lathe. Spalting is the process of naturally coloring the wood using certain fungi and is accomplished here in our shop. The bottoms are protected by a clear polymer foot which will not mark or scratch floors. This set is built to be tonally matched to sing together and the internal geometry of each drum is individually designed to bring out the best possible tones from the drums.

Your Congas are a stunning work of art!
Where is the episode 3 Bongo Shell?
Superb in every possible way.
Beautiful congas! What are your thoughts on top tuning congas? I would like to change my rims on my congas to top tuning, do you have top tuning rims available to order, 11' & 11 3/4?
Top tuning rims are good. Get in touch with Greg at artdrum.com for LP hardware.
🔥🔥🔥
Beautiful sound!
they look and sound beautiful
I've checked a few of Manitos short vids, demonstrating their bongos, and everyone of the bongos played, sound superb! 👍......... I'm extremely tempted! 😂
I don't see the bells on your site. Are you still making them?
Fantastico🎉 di dove sei??
Athens, Georgia, USA
Today is a sad day
Sir I need this tumba
That's a nice combination. I like both the sound and look. Are those both smooth skins to the touch?
Yes they are
I love watching your video brother...... very beautiful work...... miss you my friend!!.... saludos from Manchester UK....
Good clear notes, beautiful sound👌🏼
What type skin and thickness is on those bongos? I like the sound of the macho and hembra a little to low for me but they look smooth too. I have a 7 1/4 M & 8 5/8 hembra LP M201 Matador. Not crazy about the stock skin it came with.
You can have the same skin type and thicknesses for your Matador bongos. manitopercussion.com/product/premium-premounted-bongo-heads-7-1-4-macho/ manitopercussion.com/product/premium-premounted-bongo-heads-8-5-8/ Wood: spalted maple Height: 6-3/8″ Width: 7″ macho, 9″ hembra Bridge: spalted maple with carbon inlay Skins: 1mm amber Middle Eastern Steer on macho, 1.7mm amber Middle Eastern Steer on hembra Hardware: 304 stainless steel, half round Moderna crown Weight: 11.5 lbs
What configuration of head thickness do you have on all three of those drums. Especially the Quinto and Conga. They sound sweet. I just purchased a 3 drum set of Toca Traditional Series Conga and I’d like to tone them down. Tuning them to the right warm woody sound isn’t getting me what I’m truly looking for.
Skin Type: Middle Eastern Steer, our shop favorite Skin Color: Natural 11” Quinto Skin Thickness: 1.8mm 11.75″ Conga Skin Thickness: 2mm 12.5″ Tumba Skin Thickness: 2.2mm Sound: warm and classic with crisp slaps, round open tones, rich bass, controlled overtones Feel: medium action, very smooth and somewhat supple playing surface, ideal for live and studio manitopercussion.com/product/premium-premounted-conga-heads-toca/
BEAUTIFUL CONGAS!! If it is not a trade secret, how did the solid shell come about? My Latin Percussion Galaxy Giovanni Series Congas/Bongos are not solid shells, they are ash wood staves glued together. Where were you guys when I bought my congas/bongos! LOL-I will take a look at your website, may be selling my LPs!
Sounds amazing!
They’re gorgeous! You gonna sell em?
Sold
What are the size of the bongo heads
It depends on the pieces of wood. Most bongos are around 7" x 9".
absolutely beautiful
best skins ever!! ✅
that was nice man
Hola Frankie; nos conosimos anoche en Eclipse te sentastes con nosotros. Tremendo solo de congas hermano........
I can wait for my heads
good, but ive never heard anything sound as good the original classic Gon Bop skins there was just something about them a rich timber with a clear pop to them..
The sound of a drum is a complex relationship between the shell construction type, shell geometry, skin type, skin thickness and technique.
Manito’s vids are not only great advertising for his skins, but good instructional material!
Thank you so much for that wonderful compliment brother!
Thanks so much! What a wonderful compliment!!
Fantastico
Do you make special orders?
It depends on the request but I certainly have.
Nice❤
Thanks 🔥
First thing in the sound is the player. Swen (the player in this vid) clearly is a great player, as well as a great craftsman. Second component is the skins. I’ve equipped one of my LP drums with one of his pre mounted heads, and it changed the drum. It used to sound OK, but had mismatched overtones. I had to severely limit the tuning range of the drum to attempt to minimize the issue. The Manito steer skin has eliminated the problem. The overtones are now inline with the fundamental tone, regardless of where I tune it. So the range of the drum has expanded significantly.
Hi. This is Swen. I handle the skins and PreMounted heads at Manito Percussion. I'm so glad you are enjoying the sound of your drum now. I need to let you know that Ryan 'Manito' Wendel builds the drums as well as performs for all videos. He's a much better player, and I'm comfortable engineering the recordings and editing videos.
Guys, love the color! Being they are Premounted, what’s the cost ?
manitopercussion.com
They sound spectacular. Love the tuning, love the tone, love the playing
I have four wood drums: 10” Neinl, 11” CP, and an LP Caliente 11 / 12 set. Three of the drums sound good as is, but the Caliente 11” has never been able to be tuned; while the head itself is good by LP standards, it was just never a match for the drum. I just took delivery on a Manito 1.8mm steer skin for that drum, and it is transformative. It not only makes that drum sound great, but it makes the whole set sound better.
What’s the thickness on those?
Skin Type: Fat Cat™ Nili Ravi Water Buffalo (Middle East) Skin Color: Blonde Crown Type: Comfort Curve 2 (X) 11” Quinto Skin Thickness: 2.8mm 11.75" Conga Skin Thickness: 2.9mm 12.5" Tumba Skin Thickness: 3mm Sound: dry/woody tones Feel: low action, smooth and dense playing surface, ideal for folkloric styles
Are those matadors fiberglass or wood?
wood
Do you keep those congas in the background detuned when you're not playing them?
yes
So nice! Gonna need a set of these in the future
OMG!! They sound amazing!! 😃
Where can I order heads to fit the GonBops Marianos? Thanks
We will begin offering PreMounted heads for modern Gon Bops congas in late January. manitopercussion.com/product-category/skins-and-drumheads/premium-premounted-conga-heads/
Do you sell those heads?
Yes. manitopercussion.com/product/steer-middle-east/
Interesting video. I have a question there are 2 two toned conga drums behind you. So you make them? I love the vintage look. I appreciate a feedback. Thanks and keep up the fantastic work. Gil from Texas
Hi Gil, no I didn’t build those. One is a Meinl that belongs to Swen and the other is an old tack head I refurbished and built hardware for. Thanks!!
The prices are amazing considering all the custom, HANDMADE work that goes into Manito's products. Very awesome.
quiero unas
Those sound excellent
Thanks for sharing! What skins are on this Okonkolo?
Hardware: 304 stainless steel Chacha: 5″, 1mm chocolate steer Enu: 7.5″, 1.3mm chocolate steer Length: 20″ Weight: 10.8 lbs

How did that skin sound on the tumba
