A Dark Month here in the North: Did we QUIT YouTube?
Have we quit TH-cam? In this video, we address why we haven’t been uploading and share a glimpse into our life in northern Sweden during the darkest month of the year. Living near the Arctic Circle in Norrbotten has its challenges, especially in December, when the sun barely rises, and the long, dark days affect every aspect of life.
We’ll take you through a day just beneath the arctic circle, and, show you how we’re navigating life in the Arctic, and explain why we’ve been so quiet on TH-cam. Between renovating our 100-year-old house, adjusting to life in Sweden, and managing the demands of daily life in extreme conditions, we’ve had to take a step back from creating content.
If you’re curious about:
• What life is like near the Arctic Circle during the winter
• How we’ve been handling the challenges of living in Norrbotten
• Why the polar night makes life so unique (and tough)
• Or the truth about balancing TH-cam with real-life commitments
…then this video is for you!
Thank you for your patience and for sticking with us during this journey. We hope this update sheds light on what’s been happening behind the scenes and gives you a deeper look into life in Arctic Sweden.
What You’ll Learn in This Video:
✔ Why we’ve been silent on TH-cam
✔ A day in the darkest month of the year
✔ Life challenges near the Arctic Circle
✔ Our renovation progress and personal reflections
Chapters:

Thank you for all the support! We love good vibes 😁
Just found your site today keep going it will be done.
It's nice to have you onboard! We are still working on it.
It's nice to see all the nice things about moving to northern Sweden, but there is a reason why most swedes dont move up north. dark cold no light winters, and mosquitto infested summers to just name a fue reasons. thats why its so cheap up there, takes unique personalities to live in such envoirements. funny how no youtubers ever mention these aspects.
Hi Lars, thank you so much for your comment! I do mention the dark seasons and actually talk about it in my latest video. I haven’t covered the mosquitoes yet because my current videos are from other seasons-but that’s coming soon! Every place has its upsides and downsides, and it really comes down to what you value most. For me, the northern lights, snow, and cold (even with less daylight) far outweigh the rain and wind of other places. I love being surrounded by nature in a rural area rather than dealing with the hustle and challenges of crowded cities. Thanks again for sharing your perspective!

Leuke video's.

Nice! Thank you for letting us know!
Thanks for sharing your story. I was dreaming about moving to norra sverige before, thinking a lot about it, but looking at what you've bought I finally understand some dreams should remain just dreams. BTW I have no experience living in a wooden hut like yours, what about bugs inside, it should contain lots of bugs, isn't it? Sorry, I can't get this question out of my head.
There’s no bugs! I was expecting maybe mice droppings or something like that but we have not seen any. We did have an occasional wasp in the house and wondered if they came out of the walls. When we open up more next spring I guess we will find out. We have 3 air cleaners running to keep the upstairs (where we live) clean. The sawdust is really creating most inconvenience. It is literally everywhere! It is far from ideal but this way we actually are able to spend more money into our renovations compared to also having to rent a place to live I don’t know if I agree on dreams should remain dreams. But yes always be realistic and ask yourself; what does it take to accomplish my dreams
@@Projectsweden > we actually are able to spend more money into our renovations [...] This has a hidden variables in the equation - time, work efforts, and skills. Some people are lazy, some don't have necessary skills, and some don't have time. All I need to make money is an electricity, food and internet - but when I work, sometimes I don't even have time to cook me food. All I have is a small window in the evening. So I'm glad it works for you. And Derrick seems to have all the necessary skills.
@@Projectsweden I'll keep my dream of buying en tomt, bygga ett tegelhus ock bo lugnt bort fran staden =)
That sounds amazing 😊
Ukraine. Thanks for sharing your story.

Nice! Thank you for letting us know 😊
Een positieve instelling en one day at a time. Komt goed!
Hope things get better soon.
Thanks! I am sure they will
I fully understand you've been buissy. Take care and a happy new year.
Thanks, you too!
😀 Sterkte!
Komt goed! Het is nu een soort van kamperen. Maar het is het waard
Happy New Year from also Near the Arctic Circle, but in east part Finland 66 3°N. Stay calm, days are getting longer and the spring is coming soon 😀 Regards, Mirja from Korpitalo (=Wilderness House) 😀
Happy new year!
Derrick would love to come up there and gold prospect✌🏻
Welcome back thanks for the update looking forward to see what you are doing next year x
Thank you!

Hi I Loved this clip -and i watch a lot of building clips. Don't overdo it. Five short clips is better than one long.... Just get them out!
Hi Olle, thanks for your input. I am still trying different things to see what works best for our channel so any feedback is appreciated!
Thanks for the video and looking forward to the ”big” one.
You and me both!
From Sweden, in Överkalix about 70 km from you. 👋
So we are basically neighbors 😄
@ Yes😄
Nice channel, good people! Happy ending year and stay safe!
Thank you!
Cute...
Thanks for the update! Gott nytt år!
Tack! Detsamma 😊
Aww, that was so nice. The most important thing is being together, working together & focussing on progress when you can. We can wait... try not to let it stress you out. Merry Christmas & Happy New Year. We only get 4.5 hrs of light in our valley in central Yukon, the mountains block a lot of light (it looks like dusk) We've had a lot of snow & -47℃ for days, now back to normal -20 +/-. I love hibernating, so I'm good. Life is good, hold each other close & smile at your victories✌Sending warm, happy vibes your way. Cheers, Pat/Yukon☕
Thank you for your kind words 😊 the Yukon is a whole other level of living in the North! it must be amazing though! I love the mountains. I actually miss the swiss mountains. But yes they do have downsides. We have 3 hours of daylight over here. Can’t wait for the longer days to come. Stay warm ✌🏻 ~mimi
Willkommen zurück! 🙂
Danke!
Welcome back. Thank you for the update. Happy New year. 😊😊😊😊
Thank you 😊
I hope you know that you can get sand and gravel by the Kalix Återvinnings centrals entrance gate in the little windshed, it's free and mixed with salt so it sticks. You aren't allowed to fill a whole trailer but can like me get two plastic buckets with lids, this makes the salt stay mixed and it will not freeze in the bucket even stored outside. Better to sand than end up a patient! :) Personally I prefer sand over gravel as when dragged into the house it does not hurt your feet like the crushed gravel does.
I didn’t know that we got some bags of gravel at lågpris so it’s not so slippery now
@Projectsweden you can get the sand and gravel any time of day as you can walk beside the gates to the shed that is just inside. Just don't park infront of the remote operated gates! There is space besides them. I got my buckets with lids a couple of years ago at Lågpris though! :)
We will definitely check it out!
Dankjewel!
LOve to see your work and your channel, greatings from Stockholm
Thank you very much!
Jättefin video! Unusually warm winter this year. It get's so dark when the snow is absent. You seems to be in for really stormy weather now during New Year, bundle up in front of that cosy wood burner. Congrats to Derrick getting a job! Does that mean his visa is sorted? Remember him talking about the hassle around it, not being able to work until it was. Happy New Year från Göteborg.
Hi again Katarina 😊 yes it has been a very unusual winter so far! so little snow and a lot of rain and ice everywhere. Yes Derrick’s visa has been granted. It ended up taking 8 months. It’s been quite a relief now that both of us can work, because the building materials are so pricey! Gott nytt år! And thank you for following us and being here from the start of our channel💕 we really appreciate that 😊
Kul å se att ni kämpar på fortfarande, keep it up :)
Tack så mycket!
It’s birch sap and you can actually make syrup from it, just like they make maple syrup in Canada. But you’d have to collect a lot of sap. A few birch trees won’t give much.
We tried the birch sap, it is very refreshing 😊 we’d like to try making our own maple syrup, but to my surprise maple trees are actually quite rare here. We have a little one in the garden, but he needs to get a lot bigger before we try that.
