Why The Asus ROG Ally Falls Short of Greatness

Update I was able to find a used ROG Ally on Marketplace for $500, so I was able to return the unit I picked up at Best Buy, which saved me $240! For me it was all about the price, and at $500 this is an AMAZING handheld gaming unit! This is my second Asus ROG Ally, and I'm leaning towards returning this one as well. Watch to find out why!

This was an interesting review, I just bought the Proctor Silex version of this, very similar the difference being is that the proctor silex model has a high and low heat setting! I had soup today and put it on the high setting an hour before I ate my lunch and it was perfect ! I’m so pleased with it, I was going to order the crockpot one before I found the proctor silex one however I would’ve had to wait over a month for it rather than the week I waited for this one! Thanks for sharing your review! 😊

Please look at the bottom of the box on the right, there is a "White Sticker," and mentions it right there. Is there a Gen 1, or Gen 3? I wonder If I bought the latest version. Thank you 🙏🏻

@thepointofitall7975 That's the only thing wrong with the Ally it's not worth getting rid of it for the GO. I have seen almost every single review on the GO and, even though I would love a bigger screen not having VRR is a huge deal breaker for me. The crazy part is Lenovo advertised it as having 144hz VRR. The Ally has better screen vrr better sound stage also the software has gotten way better many games run better on 1% lows on the Ally. Now if Lenovo Legion Go can fix few things than it could be replacement for the Rog Ally but, right now not so much.
@@mosthated8848 the Ally ruined my sd card and is broke now. 1tb 130$ card. the ally has no sd card reader that works and thats a much bigger issue than vrr.
I wish it had an OLED display and a thinner bezel.
Lenovo dropped the ball going with a higher resolution screen than 1080p with the Z1 Extreme and no LFC or VRR as it is a necessary feature with an apu paired with a higher resolution screen playing tripple a titles. If just running older or indie games not an issue
You can carry the ps Vita with you instead

If you download you game from steam its gonna open steam in the background obviously 🤷🏽♂️🤦🏾♂️ thats why its call a platform app ... if you download your game from the browser and install in directly on the pc it will open without steam simple
Yes, this is true. I just forget to open Steam initially outside of the Legion Space app, but once it's open all Steam games launch without that box popping up. Thanks for watching!

Great video! I own both a 2019 Nintendo Switch and the newer OLED version, but I've been feeling limited by Nintendo's restrictions. I'm considering getting a handheld PC, and there are a few options like the Steam Deck, ASUS ROG Ally, and Lenovo Legion Go. In your opinion, which one stands out as the best choice?
It’s really predicated on what you’re going to be playing. The steam deck is great for starters, if you’re really just going for offline gaming but the issue you’ll run into is sometimes not being able to play certain triple A games based on the software of the steam deck running Linux, so certain games may be unplayable. Asus rog ally is good for triple A games and you have a wider variety of games to play just based on the fact that it runs windows, so you have more options and the fan isn’t as loud as the steam deck in my opinion. Runs smoother, greater variables when it comes to how you want the game to run, you have the ability to play just about any game and also can play online games or offline games without really any drop in performance but a huge and I mean major con is the battery, I’m going to get the Lenovo legion go as well this month, so I’m excited to see how it plays.

A lot depends on the kind of games you're going to be playing, and if you'll be carrying it around outside of your house. To me the Legion Go may be too big to be a daily driver outside of your home! I just can't recommend the Ally because of the known SD card reader failure issues. But if you're okay without having a functioning SD card reader the Ally is a better choice than the Deck or Go. It's more powerful than the Deck and easier to hold than the Legion Go. Hey, thanks for watching! 😃

I still love the switch oled over all these wanna be switches lmao😂 only issue I see with the switch( and it's a small issue too) is that it's old. It came out in 2017 but it still kicks ass. At least the switch doesn't have any of the issues these pc handhelds have

NIce overview. I have a Steamdeck now. Steam OS really feels console like to me which I like. Windows makes things seem clunky. Would get a Legion GO in a heartbeat if Valve had Steam OS ready for it. I don't really play many multi player games that require Windows third party verification. I do want more power in a handheld. I will wait and see how it goes over the couple of months and what people think of the Legion GO. Nice Video, Keep up the nice work. :)
You can just run Windows Steam application in "Big Picture" mode and its identical to the inface on the steam deck. Then just play steam games. However, you can run anything on it. It would be more clunky though.
Yeah. It is that clunkiness I am talking about. I know about the Big Picture mode. But the way SteamOS updates and optimizes shaders in Proton, it helps games more playable without fiddling in the game settings. If Microsoft actually works on making a version of windows for these type of devices, I think there will be an huge flood of portable handhelds coming to market. I saw a video from ETA Prime about an Intel based Handheld coming to market with ARC graphics using I think Meteor Lake Mobile. @@metagaminguniversemgu2240

GREAT review, I actually just got the XM-4’s on Wednesday at my local Target and they were on sale for $140. Being in the Apple ecosystem I already own a pair of AirPod Pro 2’s but I wanted something with better sound quality and ANC and I’ve always been a fan of Sony products so I wanted to give them a try. Overall I am VERY VERY impressed with them. My only complaint is that after a couple hours my ears start to hurt but I am hoping that is just me getting used to them because I had the same issue with my Powerbeats Pro’s for the first 3-4 days and then it went away and I was able to wear them all day as I wanted. I wear my headphones all day long from the time I get up to the time I go to bed because I suffer from really bad tinnitus from my time in the military and they really help ease that issue

My XM4 lasted more than a year before the right earbud started having troubles with battery life. The right earbud would only last about an hour now. Make sure to enable "Turn off earbud when not in use" and hopefully, Sony adds a feature to stop charging earbuds at 80% so they would last much longer. These are mf'ing 300$ earbuds, they better last me at least 2 years without problems.
YES! This is a known issue with this set, and Sony made it worse with one of their firmware updates! Mine were out of warranty for over a year, and Sony still replaced them with a brand new set! Have you contacted them yet? Hey, thanks for watching! 😃

Yes, that was a concern I had going in, but the view is fine so far. There are other mounting options that don't obscure the view as much, and I may look into those, but so far so good! Thanks for watching! 😃
Microsoft is the last company i would trust to make a handheld. They suck!! They havent been their leadership jasnt been the same since the 360 days. Nintendo is king and is the only company making great hamdhelds. Sony makes great handhelds too, but they have become a bunch of pussies because of thst whoppin nintenso gave them with the 3ds lmao😂. Nintendo whoop the confidence out of sony to ever think about a new handheld. The Rog Ally doesnt last for 2 and half hours let alone 3! Those are lies! I have a Rog Ally and the battery lasts only 45 mins to an hour no matter what settings you've got it on. The whole pc handheld idea sounds good on paper, but not without an official OS that makes battery more efficient. Steam deck is the best hanndhekd dilespite its terrible screen.
What I DON'T like about there Sony earbuds is that they lack in SUB bass and the bass that they DO have once u increase volume that decreases the bass.. I enjoy clarity but also love a nice THUMP especially if I'm in the gym and the only earbuds that matched that were the Sennheiser momentum tw3's and even the beats fit pros have their moments...
Sound is so subjective that there will NEVER be a perfect set of earbuds or headphones. I never had an issue with the bass of the XM4’s and the 5’s were okay for me as well. One day I’ll give the Momentums a try! Thanks for watching! 😃
