I am having 2 G5s and GArmin Auto Pilot installed. I have the Garmin CDI Installed which I can select GPS or NAV. It looked like you also had GPS on your CDI. They are telling me I can't have GPS on my CDI as a selection. Prioriy it can only go to Garmin HSI. However it looked like youe CDI was locked on to GPS from your 430. Please confirm Thanks great video
just curious why does the autopilot need the “old” ADI? Is there a limitation/capability issue with the G5 for some APs? If upgrading to a G5 stack, I would want to eliminate the need of a vacuum system.
Question: Have you ever experienced the Alt Hold light to come on without pilot button push?
Does the G5 HSI connect to the nav radio for ils, vor, and loc approaches? As in not the GPS. My flying club has a 172 that has a Garmin 175 navigator. It doesn't have an obs option to switch the cdi from GPS to vloc because the navigator only gives GPS information. It doesn't have integrated comms or nav. We're in the market to get a second G5 as the HSI but I'm worried that we'll only be able to read GPS data on it and won't be able to connect it to the nav frequencies on our radio stack.
Have a video of the inside?
Good job.
Stupid question. Do you still have the old strobe power supply lying around?
Nice. I am about to have one installed in my 182 with two Gi275s. I have a Garmin 530w to connect with.
Excellent information and vid ! Thank you
Great video. Will this interface with a Navomatic 300A?
how did you get the altitude alerter to ding through the speakers and not headsets is that in the G5 software or wiring?
It’s the way it’s wired to the audio panel as an I switched input - it will ding through both speaker (it turned on) and headsets
Your not showing how to build it, your just showing us how it works.
Good job on the video. I do have a question: Once you load the approach, you turn 210 to intercept. You also hit APR mode. Do you have to press the button each time or will the AP capture the decent profile if left alone?
You have to push the next selected mode to arm the approach, then both HDG and LOC will be annunciated until you intercept the localizer. Similar behavior for vertical mode - it won’t depart the ALT hold until you intercept glide path with apr mode selected
Thinking of adding the YD servo to my 201 with GFC 500. Does it make a big difference in turbulence? Faster than you can react ? Thanks and your video is awesome. Kevin
Yes it cuts down on the oscillations and tail wag after encountering turbulence significantly. In the Mooney it also allows for feet off rudders climbs and descents
What is a reasonable expectation for a GNC-500's final install cost?
The aural alerts you receive for altitude...did that come alive as a result of the GFC500? I have the dual G5s with GNX375 and no altitude alerting. Considering adding the GFC500 as it appears to do an amazing job in that crosswind! Thx for the video.
Altitude alerting comes from the GFC 500 mode control panel.
Getting a GFC500 this month. Not sure I can get used to the idea of an AP flying while I see rocks going by.
Where is the glideslope and why can't I hear you?
Whelen Aerospace Orion's now proudly made in Taiwan
15,000 lbs imported from there WOW
Do you need an A&P to change those out?
Can you operate the yaw damper with the autopilot off?
Yes you can. There are three different normal buttonologies to disconnect (besides non normal such as circuit breaker etc). AP disco switch will turn everything off, flight director stays on. If you run the trim manually it will leave the yaw damper on. you can also turn it off from the panel and that acts like the disconnect switch.
@@bdpd1 And I can assume you can activate the YD by itself? I would imagine so, that is how every YD equipped airplane I have ever flown has operated.
@@soflaav8r yes you can also operate with the YD on / off alone, YD with flight director, or YD on / off with autopilot just like other autopilots
Great demo flight / review.
Agree. I just added GFC500 and am trying to get the fine details of operation. Good to see the whole panel during video. Just like my Mooney 201. Very helpful. Thank you
GFC 500 does such an amazing job in that headwind!
Please speak up or use a remote wireless mike.
Hello, watching your video and I just had dual g5's installed with my garmin 430 and stec 30 autopilot. at anytime while flying, i there is 9 degrees difference between the 430 and the g5's???? Any suggestions
Larry Markley What’s the magnetic variation in your area? Could the 430 be reading true and the HSI be displaying magnetic?
@@tracyfajette2122 that is a possibility.I will check tonight trying out the autopilot and straight and level variation. Thank you so much for responding. we are Akron Ohio based between 7 and 8 degrees variation
That a Mooney?
1977 J model
Watch out for that autopilot. If that’s a Century, losing your vacuum system stops the AI and the autopilot doesn’t know when to stop banking. Theres limits in the AI that stop the autopilot from banking too far.
Awesome investment
I just ordered the LED's for my 201. Where was the strobe power supply located on your aircraft?
Gotta love the twin G5’s, the engine analyzer, the Garmin 430.... and then the Collins nav/com.
Is the event you lost one of the displays could you display both navigation and attitude info on the same screen?
As far as I know you can't, for example, superimpose the PFD over an HSI screen, but in PFD mode there is a compass tape along the top of the screen, and you can have a CDI near the bottom (just above the slip/skid indicator ball), so you do have basic navigation information.
Does it have a ground track indicator at all? Also, can it switch to an arc mode or is it always stuck in that 360 rose mode?
nice set up indeed. is that a mooney?
Yup 1977 M20J (201)
Nice video. I have the same setup including the same autopilot. I d like to talk to you about some settings.
just setting up G5 with PIper Autocontrol IIIB which is centry as well what if anything did you have to do to autopilot to make work?
Joe Mazzei are you installing a Garmin GAD29B as well?
Yes and I was able to find out that there is a box to make the connection to the Piper Autocontrol IIIB i have a plug and play connection. I found it on the Sarasota Avionics web site.
Great stuff, BP. If my century hsi dies, I will replace it with that hsi.
Nice landing. You have cute kids and a good dog. I used to live in Rostraver Township. Thanks for the video.
This looks like a 777-200.
Yes- it's a C172/G with a KLN94 GPS and a King autopilot and an HSI. Very functional little aircraft.
nice tdown !
good landing and ill try this airport on flight simulator 10
That thing is a rocket ship!
full zoom.... ;-)
Thanks so much for filming that, Brad! If anyone's wondering why I stay relatively flat after takeoff, it's something I do any time I have a lot of runway available (no obstructions). It allows me to accelerate to 120kts before climbing, which is optimal for cooling.
