2021 FLATLAND BMX BIKE CHECK - ST. MARTIN / ODYSSEY / GSPORT / PROFILE / S&M / DEMOLITION
I used to be strictly a Haro guy back in the day. In the second decade of the 21st century (and into the third), I've accidentally become the Mayor of St. Martin. I currently own a 19" Class X2, 18.7 Diamond, 17.9 Ten, 18.7 Ten, 18.7 Ten (St. Master), 19.2 Voodoo and 18.5 Evo. I've fallen in love with St. Martin frames. If you are into big frames or tall standover heights, these frames aren't for you.

I switched things up a little for 2020. The Voodoo is exactly the same frame as the St. Martin "Ten" frames I ride except the top tube is around 1/2" longer...which really works for old school tricks. #bmx #st.martinbmxflatland #flatlandbmx

2019 FLATLAND BMX BIKE CHECK (s) - ST. MARTIN ODYSSEY KHE GSPORT
มุมมอง 5K5 ปีที่แล้ว
My bike check(s) for 2019. A big thanks to everyone who sold me parts over time to do it right. And a HUGE thanks to Wes (wesbmxr) who has the same taste in flatland and is about the same height I am. So we do a LOT of buying / trading / swapping.
For sale?
Got one for sale?
Hi @hexbmx do you still have the bikes?
Awesome frame, I have #43 Best bike I've ever owned - frame fits me and how I ride perfectly.
Thank you. I love the Voodoo. I have a bunch of St. Martin frames and kind of cycle through them. Keeping two or three completes at any given time. I keep the rear brake, the gyro cable and the bottom bracket on all the frames. So it makes swapping out easy if I want to switch for whatever reason. Something awesome I learned by accident - The Voodoo and the 2014 Footjam (18.8) feels remarkably similar in the way they ride. The Voodoo's 19.3 tt compared to the Footjam's 18.8 tt balances out with the Footjam's 12.6 rear end compared to the Voodoo's 12.1. When riding, they have a very similar feel.
Sweet ride!! Ive been trying to find a flatland frame/fork forever.. so im riding a 19" dk and making do
She's a lil beauty.
Does anyone have knowledge of the KMC Half Link chain? This is my second one, and it's also creeking like nobody's business. When I'm pedaling fast, it's quiet though. I can't stand that noise it makes 😬!
I had two or three of those. I finally just took the plunge and ordered a Shadow Interlock half link chain. I got the v2.0 ..It's super solid and doesn't act at all like the KMC's did. I ended up ordering a couple more Shadow Interlocks for my other rigs.

Nice ride...I see you love those St. Martin frames.
Merhaba satmayı düşünür müsünüz?
I have some 1999 Haro master Zero offset fork 1"1/8 .. 14mm tho :( maybe you might be interested in them.
St martin frame? from where? They exist nowhere to pur ch ase
They were made from 2005 through 2016...then the company was sold. The newer owner added the name " Liberte' " to St. Martin, released one more frame and since then, we haven't heard much from them. I own quite a few of their frames from their production years.
Márcio Bueno Londrina Paraná BMX flatland
Do you remember me? I think we’ve been riding together. I subscribed to you.
Love the St Martin frames. I see Liberte is making a comeback and back in business, Not sure if it's the same company but I thought they were affiliated with st Martin
hi mate . i've heard it is still going to be St Martin and heard the might be bringing out an opera 3 frame . so fingers crossed it's true
It would be awesome if Liberte kept the tradition of keeping their rear ends short. That is what made their bikes so special. While everyone else was going shorter, shorter and then longer, longer, St. Martin just kept doing the same thing essentially. Progressing..but keeping their frames on the short side. So much more control with a shorter frame. When I get on my old bikes and ride them, it feels like I'm steering a canoe in comparison. Would love to see another street / flat hybrid like the Weast.
great bike checks man . love the detail you go into . giving me great ideas for my own builds . i also have an evo i'll have to check the top tube . mine is an og bronze colour but that blue looks killer
Thanks, man. Yeah, I think the dude that powdered this did it when it was still new. Had it stripped down and powdered this color. When my friend Wes got it, he left it as it and build it up. Then switched frames and I bought it. At first, I wasn't a huge fan of the color. I was going to do something else with it. But it grew on me over time. After it gets to the point where it is beyond polishing, I may take it down to raw and ride it like that for a while. I'm really interested to find out what size your Evo is..and the year. The different years are a little different. Would love to see pics as well. You can email me at hex.bmx at (gmail) if you want to send pics or anything.
@@HexBMX tomorrow i have to do some tiding up witch means moving most of my bike parts so i'll take some pictures then of all my St Martin frames and send them to you . can you tell the year of the evo from the frame number ?
Same here Michael I've learned so much from Hex's bike checks.
@@mambocowboy it's always nice to see what others have done with their bikes even better when it's a St Martin build
@@boermed Yes. Usually, there are two sets of serial numbers on each end of the bottom bracket. One will be, say, the model and the top tube length..and the other side will be the production number and year. I've seen it kind of switched up on earlier compared to later years. But the data is there. Pics would be awesome.
Stem is 48 MM...not 45. Vocal Typo.
Black and chrome looks awesome.
I have a black St Martin Ten and a white Voodoo . i was thinking of doing the ten in all black and the Voodoo in red and white or purple and white because there's purple in the decals
Thanks, man. That's my spare 18.7 Ten. I have another with the original decals that I bought NOS from a seller in France.
Love my St Martin Weast. Supposed to be 18.9 but actually 18.625. and 12.2 back end....
I also just got a new Weast and have a couple of other St Martin frames . my Weast is trans blue and i have most of the parts ready for it . I'm going to put the fly dark gold parts on it
The Weast is one of the only St. Martin frames I haven't owned. I want to try one. I'm doing another bike check for my main, new school ride today. A 2011 St. Martin Evo. 18.5" top tube. Right in between the two rigs I was riding before. It is the ONLY St. Martin I have ever owned that was actually the advertised top tube length. I have OCD, autist-style measured all my St. Martin frames..and they are all different than advertised. My 17.9 Ten is actually about 17.75"..so with the 12" rear end (I brought the dropouts in about 0.2" with a burr) that makes it the shortest flatland frame I've ever heard of. I've heard that the 20.3" Weast is actually 19.9". Pretty funny. Also, the 2011 Evo is made with the same tubing as the Weast..so it can take a beating. I'm using a Class X2 as a mild street / flat hyrbid.
love it man . i also have a St Martin Ten frame and Voodoo frame I'm going to build soon . playing with some ideas for mine . quick question would you know where I could get St Martin Voodoo decals from or made ? . my frame needs a repaint
Nice! I own Tens and one Voodoo as well. What number is your Voodoo? Mine is 41/50. I have been in your situation...trying to figure out the whole decal thing. I think your best bet is to make something that looks as close as possible..or get some scans. And then have one of these decal sellers on the web whip some up for you. I looked FOREVER to no avail.
@@HexBMX Hi mate . I love these frames . my Voodoo number is 04/50 . about the decals i've been talking to a guy here in the UK he's quite well respected for making copies of decals but he's never seen the Voodoo decals so I'd have to take them off and send them to him . but I'm a bit worried about doing that I mean if they get lost in the post then I'm f**ked
@@boermed What if you took good pics of the decals and measured each one? I could take pics of mine. When I got my Voodoo, it was basically NOS from the original owner.
Also - The Voodoo's graphics are so cool that it is understandable that you'd want to salvage or re-badge it. I thought about getting another set of them made as well.
@@HexBMX I have asked him if I could do that but he said it might not work because of the curve on the tubing and he has to scan it into his computer so needs them flat . over here we have a thing called recorded delivery . it's kind of expensive but in this case it has to be worth paying a little extra . how would be the best way of getting them off ? hair dryer ? or heat gun ?
I am going to buy flatland bmx sell my 2018 wethepeople justice
Wa pegs r u running on the St. Martin?
The pegs in the video are GSport Plegs v1.0..they're fatter than the newer Plegs. But I also use KHE Alchemy pegs..which aren't as fat but are suuuuuper light. Two of them weight about the same as a GSport Pleg.
Hi dude could you drop a list of your build of the part on your bike. I’m a noob jus getting into flatland, Thanks 👍🏼
Do echo czar bottom bracket fit in a bmx frame bottom bracket?
Who sells the voodo frame ? Not fltaland fuel
They used to. In 2013. It came out the same year as the Ten. However, there were only 50 Voodoo frames made. I got this one from a guy online. It's number 41 of 50.
I just got the ares flatland bike wit haro pedals . But i cant get th e uppper cables to hook to gyro . Do i build ground up or top down ?
What I do is put the bottom cable on and "semi" adjust the brake...leave a little slack (pads away from the rim) with the adjuster barrel on the frame all the way screwed in as far as it can go. Then put the top on and either cut your cables to length or slip the cable ends on..depending on if your Gyro has knarps for clamping down on the cables or not. Once you get it on that way and make sure it's at least working smooth, you can then adjust the lower end by adjusting the barrel or tightening / loosening the cable hanger's position on the cable itself. Hope that helps. EDIT - The Gyro's bottom barrel adjusters that screw into the Gyro tabs - I usually start with those sticking out of the top holes by about 1 mm...and usually don't need to adjust those much.
To you bmx experts, do shimano xtr m1900 crankset fit in bmx bottom bracket?
I don't know those cranks at all...I have probably seen them and just don't know the name / model. I'll see what I can find if you haven't figured it out yet.
Wow nice St. Martin. You have some great parts on there. I would love to have specific flat bike and separate street ride. Thanks for the upload You have inspired me to put my flatware Chase Guinn forks on my WTP envy bought from Pat. Just got back on brakes Odyssey Evo 2.5 frt. May try Shadow Sano Featherweight in rear. Got my "Eye" on those KHE mac tires you suggested... Weirdness
Thanks, man. Nice. I like the Flatware forks a lot. I also have a set of Fishbone Rebel forks on my Ten that have holes for both zero and 15mm offset. I really dig those. And I bought a set of WTP zero offset forks from my friend Wes that I'm currently using as well. I also got some of those Shadow brakes and they work pretty well. The Demonlition Vulcan brakes with the bearings are the best I've ever used. Hands down. Smoothest brakes ever. The KHE Macs are so light, it's insane. Like 9.3 oz each. All my other tires are basically double that. You wouldn't think it would make a huge difference but it does. Along with plastic pegs, it makes each end of the bike feel super light.
@@HexBMX I agree the chase forks are great. Not a lot of tire clearance. In running the f25 odyssey forks that can fit a big 2.5 wide tire. I agree on tire weight.. I switched from Chase odyssey 1.85in wide freq g to Odyssey mike Aiken 2.25 for jumping dirt. Big difference in weight. I can not wait to try those Shadow brakes and KHE tires. Will look into those demolition brakes. Makes sense the bearings would be super smooth. Cheers
@@weirdnessbeardness Yeah, you're right on the tire clearance. I run really thin tires, though. The 1.75" S&M Trackmark tires I run are really 1.80" inflated...and they're still pretty narrow. Yeah, the Vulcan brakes are expensive...and have a mid-school style bolt setup...but they are SUPER smooth.
@@HexBMX Yes I would like to run those Vulcan brakes just for the smooth operation of the bearings alone. Bet the lever feel is amazing. For your street bike have you tried wider tires? I know on just flatland thin and light is the way to go. I ran Cult AK 2.5 tires which inflate to 2.6 for about 6 months, no brakes. I had to switch to 2.25 Aiken steet tires (2.3 inflated) when I put on the Odyssey Evo 2.5 brake as they would not clear, great all around tire. The ride of a wider tire is so much more compliant and one can run lower preasures. I can see why street guys ride 2.4 or 2.3 tires. Some dedicated dirt riders do the 2.4 frt and 2.1 rear for more grip in front and fast rolling rear tires. Fun to try out different set ups. Cheers
Sweet bikes. I have one street and one flatland too. I think it's the way to go....
Thanks, man. It is. I dig having a street bike. I want an ALVX or 2-Short but I'm having a hard time finding a used one for cheap.
@@HexBMX yeah I'm looking to upgrade my street to a shorter back end ...
@@mambocowboy It makes a WORLD of difference. Before I went to the dark side and built new school bikes, I was still riding my Haro Masters from back in the day. Each had 14" - 15" rear ends...depending on where the wheel was set on the dropouts. The difference is remarkable.
@@HexBMX I'm learning alot from your videos. Wouldn't have known about the brake feathering quality of the Springfields.
@@mambocowboy Yeah, I had an extra few bucks on me and decided to gamble with them. I was going to just buy a new set of ghost pads..that are 8-12 bucks alone. A few bucks more and I got the brake too...and was totally surprised by it.
thats kinda true though about your going to ruin the santaty? of the pool...lol
👍🔥👍🔥👍💥👍🔥🔥🔥
After researching the opinions of those who use the coaster, I was kind of skeptical about purchasing the Clutch V2 a few months ago. Since I've had it on my bike, there hasn't been any clicking or popping. The Odyssey brand has built their reputation off of the reliability of their hardware. I was wondering why such a pricey hub would just be so problematic. Although there were many great reviews, the bad reviews started to kill my vision of customizing my bike with a bit of ODSY parts😅.
Yeah, man, you always here from the people who have problems. And while there HAVE to be a couple defective ones out there, 99% of these problems are because the person didn't maintain it, put it back together wrong or because they just don't know what they are doing. When I got my brand new one, I swapped out the axle with a full 3/8 conversion kit. I built it back up and STILL haven't had any problems with it. And it was completely taken apart and put back together. And like I said in the video - The one I bought used was purchased under the premise that it was "defective"...when the fact was that it just wasn't maintained. At all.
That's a dope ride you have there😬👍! I just built my first set of wheels, and the rims are Hazard Lite's. I'm trying to go with as much Odyssey parts as possible on my bike. Hopefully, I can score the Terry Adams bayou bar because I kinda hate the big GT bar on my bike. By this coming spring/summer, I'll be trying to get into a bit of flatland tricks as a way to occupy myself with something other than cigarettes.
Thanks, man. Yeah, I try to use as much Odyssey stuff as I can as well. In fact - Unless I can't use it due to specs, I always go with Odyssey. I had to go with Profile with the cranks because they make them as short as I needed them. And I had to go with different tires because the Odyssey Frequency G's were a little too slick for me. You'll definitely dig a smaller set of bars. Now when I grab on standard street bars, it feels like I'm hanging onto a set of ape hangers.
@@HexBMX My bike is the only video I posted on my channel so far. If you like, you can check it out to give your opinion on my progress so far😏!
Great rides man, I just built up a St Martin Nation frame, I got a new Odyssey Clutch v2 and I love it, best coaster on the market by far! I also use Chase bars and the Chase Flatware forks but with 28mm offset, I love a dialled bike, you have 2 lovely set ups there my man! Give me a follow on Instagram @lovelivelifepeacehope Rad man 🤘🙏
Thanks, man. The Nation is a great frame! I'm a huge St. Martin fan because of their relentless production of good geometry, low top tubes and short rear ends. And you are right - The Clutch is an excellent piece of tech. I'd like to have a shelf full of them.. I need to make a new bike check(s). Since I made this, I decided to buy the only Ten frame with a slightly longer top tube (a 2013 Voodoo). I found one almost NOS and built it up. I also got my hands on a 2008 St. Martin Class X2 from my friend Wes and built it up as a Flat / Street hybrid bike. It's really similar in feel to the Footjam 4 or Weast...I haven't rode street in years but I'm itching to at least wall ride and have some fun.
Nice ride love it
Dope..
Oh, dude....You will totally love my "St. Master" that I painted and stickered like an '88 Master. It's my main rig now. It's exactly the black rig that I "bike checked" second..I just swapped frames. Same size, same specs. Let me dig up a pic.
@@HexBMX cool. I have a few frames that I picked up that they pretty small for me to ride. I paid 20 for and oldskool 85 or 86 pro freestyle tour. I kept looking for bikes that would fit me but I have everything in pieces. My girl became sick with ALS so now haven't had the money to Shell out for a bike I can equip to ride. I also have a Hoffman not a bad bike given the fact the price it was at the time I have a mosh but the rims aren't very good. Wish all this didn't stop me from riding but what can ya do. It's crazy expensive for the bikes we had back then. I wanted to ask you how tall you were because I find it hard to ride smaller bikes. I'm about 5 ft 9 alot of bikes I see ppl selling where I'm at is small.
Somehow, this comment was held. Didn't see it until today. I just use longer stems and bring the seat back further. Depending on the frame. I'm 5' 8" but have really long limbs. Lanky. So I understand what you're saying. A 19" top tube with a 45mm stem is most comfortable for me. But can work with other sizes.
Great bikes. Well set up. Got some great parts on there.
Thanks, man. I appreciate it. The 17.9 (chrome) feels perfect. The 18.8 needs Chase BS bars instead of No BS bars. Then it will feel right. They both felt perfect with No BS bars back when I was running super-short, 26mm stems on them...But since I've gone with a little more reach on both, a little backsweep seems to feel better. I need to take more video in some sunlight before they start getting beat up over the summer. It had been raining every damn day here and I couldn't get a vid made in the daylight. I'm gonna' check out your channel and your rigs right now.
@@HexBMX just noticed the flatland fuel sticker on the chase bars. Cool. I want to get those same bars (St.Martin or Odyssey?) and chase's odyssey forks 28mm offset so I can run evo 2.5 brakes. How do you like the Khe Mac tires? Heard they are pretty light.
@@weirdnessbeardness The Flatware forks are super stiff. I've always really like them. But I also love the Fishbone fork on my other St. Martin because if I feel like messing around, I can change my offset from zero to 15mm in about a minute. Both sets of bars are Odyssey. I've ran more than a few sets of bars that exceeded 8" and it just feels weird to me. 8" seems to feel perfect no matter what I do. Unfortunately, the new St. Martin / Liberte Chase bars are 8.5"...I might be able to use them if I was rocking a front load stem..but I'd like to try them before dishing out the cash. Hah. I'll tell you this with OCD authority - The ODSY Chase bars are the BEST bars if you run brakes...because cable routing is amazing. They run right along the bar if you cut them and set them up right. Like, literally, not even 5mm of cable sticking up above the cross bar. I love that. I always hate seeing a low crossbar with a tangled mess of cable blocking the clearance. Dude, the Mac 1 tires are RIDICULOUSLY light. I have an obsession with weighing parts when I get them to see if companies are full of crap when they advertise weights. My Mac 1 tires are 9 oz each. No joke. When I switched from my Frequency G tires to the Mac 1's, I saved just a hair over a pound. Amazing. Over a pound. From TIRES. However, the compound of the S&M tires feels better to me. Also, "someone" told me that they quit selling the Mac 1 tires on their online store because the quality had gone down so much. I won't state the person's name here because that's probably not cool. But I can tell you via message. Mine are NOS..so they are decent quality so far. But others may know if KHE has corrected this problem since I heard about it around 6 months ago.
@@HexBMX Cool you can change the offset on those fish bone forks. There frame and forks seem good quality. I have had my eye on those Chase bars for a few years now. They have sold out a few times on flatland fuel. I do need to get a pair. With how obsessed Chase Quinn is about setting his bikes up it is not too shocking he got the cable routing dialed. He talked at length, on one of his bike checks, about cable routing on his odyssey forks so they would not interfere with his shoes with all those wild mid school switches/scuffing he does. I remember seeing Chase in person for the 1st time, riding at night back in 94. He was in North Phoenix riding a food 4 less parking lot. Right around the time he was in the Chase Ded movie. Amazing rider back then. I was on a then new 94 GT pro freestyle tour (non team model). He motivated me to ride. But I digress... I may have to try those KHE tires. I had seen at least one review of people blowing the sidewall on youtube, but to save that much weight...might be worth it and like you said quality is getting better. I saved 350 grams and about 300 grams respectively by switching from steel beed Wtp Sticken tires in 20 x 2.4 in(800grams) and 20 x 2.3(750grams) to the Odyssey klytes at (452 grams) each. Rotating mass makes a big difference. I do ride a lot of street so durability and sidewall strength is important for me and the blance between flat/street function for my bike.
@@weirdnessbeardness Yeah, the only limiting thing about the Fishbone Rebel fork is that you need a female axle to run them. They don't have traditional axle slots..but holes instead. But that is also a bonus in some ways because the axle can't slip and slide on the slot and is always balanced. I saw Chase for the first time in years at this flatland spot up here in Detroit a couple years ago. I actually rode straight old school until a few years back. I was still riding my '89 Haro Master. I should have gone new school way sooner. Money was an issue, though. I'm just as crazy about my setups. Especially my cable routing and lengths / sizes of parts. For example, I can't run what people consider "short" cranks on a flatland rig with such a short top top. I keep catching my toes on the front wheel. So I had to find these 125mm cranks for the 17.9 Ten. That kept my feet from snagging. However, I didn't want to dish out 350 bucks for them...so they took quite a while to find used. You should search for some NOS KHE tires or find some lightly used ones if you don't want to take the risk on the new ones. The sidewall blowouts were the reason "someone" quit selling them on their store. If I see some, I will point you in their direction.
