R32 GTR driving clips with new G30-900
Took the GTR out for a drive with the new G30-900 and decided to get some clips. Still on 17psi. Overall I am very impressed with this turbo so far and it sounds great! All images are computer generated and sorry for the wind noise.

Just installed the Tomei exhaust. Very nice system and just the sound I was looking for. Stock engine/turbos, Mines front pipe, test pipe, Tomei Ti. I will get a better video soon. I was just so excited to get it on.

R32 GTR with mines front pipe, kakimoto hyper 2000 full mega n1 (the one with the hotdog style mid muffler), and a 3in test pipe. Stock turbos/unopened engine. Note: I switched the 2.5in stock punched out cat (in the last vid) to a 3in test pipe. The exhaust gained a bit of depth and crispness. Overall response from the turbos has increased too.

    Been trying to dial in the Fuel based rotational idle on my cousins RB20DET GTS4 powered by a Haltech Platinum Pro. Can’t seem to get it to bounce nearly as fast as yours. It’s maybe 1/2 to 3/4 the speed. Any tips?

      I haven't used the rot idle in quite a while but from what I remember you have to make sure the IAC is cranked up and you could always try raising the cut rpm. Also the ignition cut is a much faster cadence.

      @904Saleen oh I totally missed you had a platinum pro. That has a mixed ignition/fuel cut algorithm. I have another video on this channel with the platinum pro on this car.

      They all run the same software so I can't see why they wouldn't be able to. It's really just opening up the IAC and cutting fuel/spark events. Not rocket surgery.

    What would you say is the spool Characteristics. What time it starts to spool what time it hit full boost how much do you think you could make with the g30 900. I am considering one for my 3.0l flat 6 (ez30)

      It really starts building boost around 3500 and full (17 psi) is around 4200. You could probably get 700 wheel from it if you really stretch it out on the biggest rear housing but 650whp is a more realistic figure.

    Hey man! I'm wondering how much difference this setup was compared to the tomei setup noice wise? The kakimoto seemed a bit more quiet is that correct? In debate on which exhaust to get but the tomei seems so crazy loud 😂.

      It's honestly a different tone altogether. The Tomei is louder for sure but it has that high pitch sound to it.

      @jimmyletalu7715 I don't remember the rot idle settings I had at the time as this vid is over 6 yrs old, but I do remember it was still on a Haltech Platinum Pro which used a combination of fuel and spark cut​. I think the rpm was set around 1100.

    How does it spool on that rb26? Im going to use that turbo on my rb26/25 build. Thinking to go that 0.83ar exhaust side becouse i have that rb25head. Aiming for 550-600whp. Max Rpm will be somewhere 8000-8200. Thinking to go for tomei pon cams and using that vct on that head for make it spool early.

      It spools faster than my old BW S360; full boost (17psi) near 4200ish. The transient response is much better, though, as it spools near instantly after 4500. Honestly, I would stay with the TS 1.06 on a 2.6 if you're running any kind of rpm and already have the manifold for it. I feel like the 0.83 would choke with this size turbine.

      @@chrisfoster5044 rb25 head have litle bit smaller valves and rb26 head flows alot better. On 0.83 what i think it is close to choke limit but i only need push it to that 650 -700bhp mark. Its not neo head sadly. You running only 17psi on that g30🤔?

      @hannonen9740 yeah im on a stock bottom end so I'm not pushing anywhere near what this turbo can produce. I was future proofing a little when i bought it but it still turned out to be more responsive than the smaller turbo i had before. You could always try the 0.83 and let us know how it goes. There are not a lot of builds with the g30-900.

      The starter is stock. What you're hearing is the lightweight aluminum flywheel as the starter turns it over.

      It is a g30-900 so a bit bigger than a gt30. On pump 93 it was at 430 awhp on 17psi but that was when I had the old Borg s360. Should make closer to 500 now that it's on e85 and a bigger turbo but that's just me speculating.

      What power are you after? I would be more tempted to go with a g35-900 on anything larger than 2.6l especially given the rev happy nature of the RB. If you're only looking for 650-700rw and a rev limit of 8K the g30 would be ok.

      I have a R33 GTR with a stock 2.6l bottom end and G35-900 1.01 rear housing. I considered the G30 but I'm so glad I went G35!

      You may notice better transient response one stock sized turbos. The big benefit comes when you go up in turbo size. You can keep more of your boost response down low and have better transient response. It's not a magic bullet though.

    If full boost at 17psi is happening between 4000-4500, what's the boost threshold for 5psi and 10psi, respectively?

      I can have 5 psi pretty much from 2k but it's still doesn't make good power there. 10psi around 3.5k. It starts really picking up around there.

      @@chrisfoster5044 5psi is kinda my benchmark for "Is it actually doing anything?" It's been said that 5psi is enough to eliminate pumping losses and add to economy, so if you're getting 5psi at roughly cruising RPM, then you're pretty good ig. Something else I noticed in the vid is wheel hop. Have you considered poly bushings? 90A or 95A on the suspension and differentials and 75A or 80A on the engine and trans should do you pretty well without being too harsh as far as vibration goes.

      @Drunken Hamster I definitely need to go through the subframe and redo all the bushings. I'm usually gentler on the car. Lots of 30-40 mph rolls.

      @@chrisfoster5044 Are you sure? Guys with 1JZs are having to use the largest AR housings with G25s just so it doesn't choke the motor. G25-660 twin scroll on a 1JZ is like instant boost, 550whp, and carries to, I believe, 8k rpm. I think Adam LZ said it was one of his favorite f**kboi setups.

      When this video was done it was about 430rwhp. Haven't had it dynoed on the new setup but it should be somewhere around 480rwhp.

    What AR exhaust housing you using, T4 split or V band? How’s the response?

      1.06 T4 split. It's good. Better than the smaller s360sx I had before. Full boost at around 4000 with transient being instant anything after 4500. Boost response feels much more connected to where throttle input is if that makes any sense.

      @@chrisfoster5044 thanks for reply. Just finishing build with exact same turbo. Chose the smaller g30-900 over g35 for quick spool and larger 1.06 for control with space for top end. She had a T04Z turbo and 640hp before, which saw full boost at 4500rpm. So this new setup sounds like it should see faster spool. Great to hear.

      @Mark Collins nice! Get some vids up of the setup as there are not too many g30-900s on TH-cam especially with the 1.06. I think 700whp would be possible out of this turbo but it will be stretching it on an RB with a modest rev limit.       I have the Tomei 262 cams. I can't see how bigger cams would change the ability to use rot idle but I don't know why you would want to use it unless rallying the car. The big cams would probably sound better than the rot idle.

    Seems like a lot of the Group N rally cars are using Fuel Based for rotational idle / anti lag. How do you like the Haltech? I am torn between this and the Link G4 for my EVO rally car build.

      Huh I would have thought rally would use ignition based because it cuts ignition events allowing unburn fuel to both cool the engine and provide extra exhaust energy when the ignition comes back. Much harder on engines but very effective. I love the haltech elite! It has way more features than I need and the ability to upgrade is incredible. The nexus software is intuitive, easy to learn, and expansive. Not to mention all the great support you get from the team at Haltech. It would easily be one of the first mods I do to any older efi vehicle. I haven't heard anything bad about the G4 but I would never change based on how well this ECU has worked for me.

      It's ecu tuning; rotational idle.

      Thanks! Yeah those were some good times for sure. I had to bring the cams back to 0/0 to pass emissions in the states and I haven't switched back yet. I will someday and make another vid.

      @@chrisfoster5044 Did you do your mapping/tuning yourself? I'm currently in the re-shimming process as I have just dropped in Tomei JP poncam Type Bs. Trying to understand how I have to accomodate on the ignition timing table and how much I can advance/retard the ADJ cam gears safely

      @@threadscrossedmechanic1622 I did do my own mapping and I'm continually messing with it to find the best settings. Luckily type Bs aren't too far from stock so timing doesn't really have to be changed but I run conservative timing anyway. I had my cams installed by Speed Factory in Oki so I never had the pleasure of messing with shims. Best of luck and get another vid up when done!

      Yes you can do it with the platinum pro but it didn't have the two different types like the elite series. I have a short video from about 4 years ago on my channel with it on the platinum. Can't really remember the settings exactly from the platinum but I do remember it being extremely easy to set up. Good luck!

      Yeah it does seem difficult to get ahold of them now. Could always try reaching out through their Facebook page. I would upgrade the wiring in the kit from the battery to the relay to at least a 10gauge if your running a big pump but overall a great kit.

      The ignition based rot idle cuts an ignition event for one cylinder per cycle and the fuel based does the same but cuts a fuel event.

      Just the ECU had to be swapped. I went with a Haltech Elite 2500 and it has been great but I'm sure other ECUs could enable this function.

    How did you trigger the ign based rot idle? I can only do fuel based, running a Haltech platinum pro, any tips man?!

      Platinum pro can only do fuel based. I could be wrong but I believe the Platinum pro "fuel cut" is a mixture of both fuel and ign as it sounds entirely different than the fuel cut on the Elite series.

    What's the point of a rotational idle? Does it have any benefits, or just different sound?

      It's supposed to be used for rally type racing to help increasing cooling and I think to help keep the turbo spooled. The rotational idle is typically set at a higher RPM than what I have mine set to.

      @@Lada333 pretty much. It was an option in my Haltech so I decided to try it out. If you do a LOT of anti-lag it could be helpful to cool the car.
