You can also try a shelf of tape layers along the diagonal to butt up against the diagonal seam
Rotating the ruler is easier with an oversized ruler, and slide it first and use the corners of the ruler like handles. I’ve seen Bloc loc demonstrate that
Thanks for the encouragement
I just found your video. Thank you! I’m wondering, though about quilts that are smaller, oblong, wall hangings, table runner…any size other than a big quilt. I’m trying this and it’s not coming out like yours at all.
Good to know Thank you 😊
I’ve had a JUKI Q18 for two years now & love it! I believed then that it’d be the last machine I’d buy. Six months ago, a Bernina 480 was included in a bundle when I purchased a Q20. After listening to this review, I found the J6700 at a great price. I can’t stop thinking about it. I’ve been trying to like the B480 but the learning curve is a little higher for me. Help, your thoughts please? TIA I’d like to add the machines I have: B440qe, J3160 & Brother SE1900 (that is hardly ever used). THANKS AGAIN.
Planning to start
Thank you for this A and B block 💡and confidence to try the swirling technique. The seams look like miniature Battenberg cake! But I remain worried about the popped seam threads working loose over time, and with washing and use. The second seam holds the ends of the threads, is your protection, you said. Well, I’m going to shorten stitch length on second seams then, or reverse back over each intersection, or add a dab of fraycheck. I’m still nervous!! Can’t help it. If anyone has given a quilt with swirled seams a good thrashing and they haven’t started to open, I’d really welcome the news! Depends on how densely the work is quilted, I suppose. Thank you
This video is gold. You’re a star, thank you SO MUCH for sharing this invaluable video, I FINALLY ‘get’ webbing a quilt!!! Thank you!!
Love your real world reviews and sharing history and your quilt is beautiful!
Thank you for sharing your experiences and a very nice presentation 🙏 This helped me to decide 👍
Thank you so much for this tutorial. Now I know how to do my quilt. Happy thoughts! :)
Here I am making quilts on my Singer Heavy Duty 4452 start to finish, drooling over that Janome. Someday
Have you purchased the other Janome acufeed systems ? There are currently 3. The one that comes with 6700p (with extra feet available) , then there is single narrow version with 2 currently available feet, then the HP2 system with currently 1 foot. I have seen quilters rave about the HP2 for giving a perfect scant 1/4" seam with the included HP plate.
What retreat in Wisconsin? I live there and would be interested! Love coffee crisp bars.
Great video Shelley! By the way Red Deer, Alberta has a wonderful JUKI dealer too! I just bought my TL18 from Sewing Arts Centre and love it!
Bought mine 2 years ago and LOVE it. Only thing I'd change is 1 inch more throat space in length and height.
I seem to be building up a collection of machines because no machine that I own so far does everything well. I do like to use straight stitch only machines for most of my tasks, including quilt piecing and jump to the computerized machine for any decorative stitches or embroidery. I do this to extend the life of the computerized machine. I prefer vintage all metal machines that can be oiled and maintained by the user...but I will soon find out how a TL compares to my vintage Singer 201 that sews beautiful stitches. The only thing it is lacking is some of the modern features, like needle set to stop at down position and needle threader. BTW, I recently purchased the MO 2800 serger from Juki Junkies and my experience was very good. TFS
I also love my Singer 201, and do quilt piecing on it. I would love to have that Janome 6700 or 6650, though. I sew my binding on with a 20-year-old Bernina 165 with a walking foot, but I'm thinking the Janome would do a better job. Love the video!
Wish I had seen your video there years ago! I was using wonderful Singer (20 yrs old), but wanted to upgrade. (I sew clothing, costumes, and bridal. But moving into landscape quilting too!) I bought Babylock Ballad and Chorus. I wish I had purchased one (Baby Lock Ballad) and a then a straight stitch workhorse Juki! I looked at a Janome top, but my Singer had Baby Lock Presser feet that the Janome could not use. There are features I love abt Babylock and things I love abt Janome (the magnetic needle plate on Janome I love!) (Baby Lock needs a redesign on that feature!) All that to say - loved your video information! Thanks! I'm still thinking of buying a Juki for the "float foot" (and that it is a workhorse) (my Babylock Ballad and Chorus are excellent, but not a workhorse - too expensive and I don't want to damage them sewing on thick projects!) Thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge!
Wow. Thanks! I’m in a rush for 2 Christmas presents & I am in trouble
I would have chopped that weird shaped piece also.
Thank you for the very comprehensive analysis on the Juki 2010Q. Bernina and Juki were the 2 machine I was looking at 4 years ago. I ended up with Bernina 770. But after sewing it seriously for the past 4 years, I am thinking to try JUKI - HARUKA TL-18QVP so I can use the micro lifter when I make thick bags. I enjoy the most is piecing in quilting. So as much as the Bernina I have is great. But it makes me wonder if the Juki would do a better job since it only do straight stitches. And that is what I use the most of the time. Watching your video and seeing so many quilters using JUki TL machines, it does make me think that I will like Juki more than my Bernina. Now I will have to look and see if I can try one when I visit a bigger city. Where I live is so remote that I have to drive about 1.5 hours to get to a fabric store near me. So let a long sewing machine dealers. There is none close to me at all for Juki. I would hate to get Juki and found out it is not worth to get a 2nd machine in comparison to my Bernina.
In this video you rave about the even feeding. Does the presser foot pressure need to be set at a certain amount for cotton quilting fabric?
Too expensive sewing machine. No zigzag stitch? I don’t understand
Thank you for this thoughtful video. I don’t own a Juki but would certainly consider buying one in the future. I’m very interested in the sticky strip LED lights. Where did you get them?
Great machine I ve been using for 24 year.
The missing information is how block B is different than block A. I think the focus fabric goes from bottom left to top right.
This sounds like everything I want but does it have the zigzag stitch and the needle down feature. Thank you!
Hi appreciate your recommendation re walking foot. I’ve just ordered it as I want the guide bar feature too. Thanks.
Great video. Thank you! This is the exact machine I plan to purchase in the very near future.
This is an unbelievably helpful video. Thanks so much !
Hi there…I have the TL QVP 2200 Mini. I use this machine for all my free motion quilting, up to about 80” x 80” in size. I also love the knee lifter, foot thread cutter and after market walking foot. Best purchase. I also have a Bernina but it is stored for the occasional need of a zig zag.
I have the tl2200 it came with the quarter inch foot
Pressing instructions are sew important! Thank you!!
Not Bonnie’s technique but it’s a good one! This has been around for a very long time! Also I have found the Strip-ology ruler a game changer. This saves sew much time and improves accuracy in cutting. Thanks for a great tutorial! New subscriber!❤
I just ordered a 2010 Sunday night, and it should be here tomorrow (Wednesday)!! I’m so excited for the heavy duty aspect and the knee lifter! I’m excited for it all and will probably be nonexistent to the world for a couple weeks lol
That is not a large throat space
Nice machines but I would never buy one that only does a straight stitch or unable to move the needle. Especially for the price
I have the same Juki and Industrial Juki . Love Juki!
Nice to have this to come back too for a refresher. Thanks.
Following Juki machine lineup with stars in my eye. The build in cone holder is one of the features missing from mu domestic. The build quality too 😉. Enjoyed learning more about your TL Doesn’t Janome hake a semi professional sewing machine. The two Janome additions to your Juki speak to Janome quality which is well deserved.
Thank you for sharing. I have an old used home sewing and want to up grade. I am a beginner. I wanted to know if tl 2010Q and a serger would be an adequate replacement? For making quilts and clothing for me and the kids' zippers and buttons included. Thank you❤🎉😊
Great review! I’m about to buy one of these … and their extra wide ironing board. Expensive but a really worthwhile investment.
Thank you for your enthusiastic video in support of your Juki TL series sewing machine. I, too, own one, but mine is the TL 2200QVP Mini that was sold just prior to the TL-18 Haruka being released. Having listened to the things you’d like to see improved upon, I’m curious why you haven’t purchased the Janome HD-9v2 Professional to replace your Juki? It comes with all the improvements you mentioned as being missing on the Juki, but it also comes with a higher price tag - around $1799 on sale. However, that’s comparable to the Juki TL-18 at today’s pricing. When I bought my TL-2200QVP, your TL-2010 was selling for $599 new. I paid $899 for my TL-2200, which now sells for $1499 on sale. I personally prefer the Janome box feed dog system, and the HD9 is quieter in my opinion. But I’m not in a position to invest in a change of machines now or the foreseeable future. I’m happy with my Juki TL machine, and I FMQ king-sized bed quilts on it. 🥰
My dislikes: 1. Automatic threader. Out of 8,748 tries and watching 276 videos, I have successfully used the threader 3 times. (I might have exaggerated, but not much.) 2. Auto thread cutter. Works well about half the time. Sometimes when I go to sew again, it pulls the thread out of the needle. Might not be so aggravating if the needle threader worked. However, the pros of this machine far outweigh the negatives for me. I bought it 9 years ago as a retirement present to myself. I’ve made numerous quilts, purses, a diaper bag, and dozens of zipper pouches on it. I learned to sew over 50 years ago and have used a variety of machines. I have never sewn on one I like as well as my Juki 2010. I have never seen a straighter or more perfect stitch. Plus the machine has a lot more metal than plastic, a strong motor - truly a workhorse that will definitely be handed down for generations. Just like I use my grandma’s old White brand machine for the occasional zig zag. 💕
It’s a shame your experience with the threader and cutter hasn’t been positive, but it’s great to hear that you love the rest of the machine!
Debbie you’re not exaggerating about the thread cutter.
I like video I like the cutting table too. May I know which brand and table dimensions , please !
You are so kind ❤.
