Regarding the tape on the throat plate: I use a utility knife to cut along the crevice between the throat plate and machine. That way you can remove the throat plate but the tape can remain in place of it’s still in good condition. Regarding oiling, I always had to look at the mannual to remember WHICH holes need oil. I got some page hole reinforcement stickers. I put one on each hole that needs oil so it speeds up my routine.

And today I did it. The quilted sandwich was already finished some weeks ago, yesterday I cut all the pieces and bindings and today I sewed everything together. Phew... that was quite an experience. I used the first time bias binding. But what really was a challenge for me was the sewing the gusset with back and front. Oh, these curves... But at the end I made it and it's finished now and I hope my mom will be happy with her birthday gift 😊 Thank you very very much for the videos. They were most helpful. Together with the pattern it was - doable 😅Happy sewing, Kerstin

I'm a quilter and I've had my TL-2010 for 7+ years. I also have a computerized Juki HCL-DX7 which is very nice, but I use the TL most of the time. I agree with almost every point you've made, except that I hate the foot pedal thread cutter, my automatic needle threader has never worked right, and opposite side of the coin, my walking foot works great - I've never had a problem with it and I use it often, especially for quilt bindings. I don't mind pushing the thread cutting button, and I just thread my needle by hand - I've become so used to it that it doesn't bother me at all. I bought a Juki brand aftermarket 1/4" foot and it gives me perfect scant 1/4" seams. Also, like you, I leave the huge extension table on almost all of the time. I love this machine!

Did you find that the maven and velocity both glide across the fabric when pressing yardage equally? I had a velocity 200IR that died last year and I replaced it with a oliso but I hate it so on the search for a new one again but think the Velocity might to be heafty for me, but worried the maven might be to light with the 2lb difference.

What is missing is a free arm. This feature allows you to easily sew on tubular items like sleeves or pant legs my ~40 years old singer Stylist 834 has it such a useful feature and has a solid zinc diecast frame. I appreciate the Juki is capable of sewing thicker materials and i wish my Singer i got second hand was stronger but it's surprising they don't have a free arm.

I have had my TL 2010 for about 3 years and I love it! I have sewn on Kenmore, Viking, Singer and have 4 Bernina machines but my go to machine is the Juki. Stitch quality is beautiful, knee lift fantastic and I can't live without that thread cutter. I struggle to get a scant 1/4” so I purchased the swing away guide and it works perfectly. I set my first guide at 1/2” and the second guide at 1/4”. Works every time. Sewing on the Juki is just fun!

Great tutorial. I’m sure that your method of threading and securing the thread in your needle, is something that I will be using from now on. Thank you for the tips. I can see how hand sewing your binding can really be a relaxing way of finishing a quilt. It also gives you the confidence that it is securely done. Thanks for this video.

I hope you love the knot behind the eye of the needle - it was such a game-changer for me! ❤

This tutorial is very timely! I am hand binding for the first time. Your instructions are clear and the visuals are great. I already have one side done. It’s not as hard as I thought it might be. Thanks!

I’m thrilled to find your channel. I love the quality of your videos, your detailed instructions and the content which is just what I need as a beginner quilter. It helps too that you and I have the same name, Shelly. I look forward to watching prior and future videos. ❤

I noticed your light strip what a brilliant idea. I have a singer patchwork right now and the lighting especially in the evenings is horrible. Even a sewing light isn’t that helpful. I’m looking for a machine more like the janome but I’m not sure about the computerized business because I’m afraid if it breaks down it will cost an arm and a leg. Are the feet and the bobbins expensive?

Yes, the light strip on the Juki is indeed a life saver! 🙌 I'm not sure what your definition of expensive is, so I'd recommend a quick google search to see for yourself. 👍

Great thank you. After seeing your review of these machines I’ve decided on the Janome. I found an insanely great price for 2,000.00 so I think I’m going to take the plunge

Can this method be used if you hang your quilts? I have more hanging space than folding and placing on a shelf. Thanks

I'm not sure it would work very well for hanging quilts, but you could easily give it a try and let us know how it went for you!
