if you approach it from the back, it has two sensors at the end of its abdomen that senses movement, also, most large grasshoppers with wings are capable of flying very far, so if it jumps, you're not getting it back. If you approach it from the front, it gets confused and it will have to jump backwards to escape you, which makes it very hard for them to fly and not crash into the ground.

I made my net from a paint strainer and stiff wire with hose clamps and zip ties. I catch them and feed them to the trout in the river. Trout fry are like fresh water sharks. The water boils when you dump in bucket of them.

You never mention it but when i used these bells several times they fo flying off too when you set the hook. I lost several bells for this reason slone mostly at night.
