Hi!. I just ordered this. What is the purpose of the clear yellowish plastic coating on the 10x1.5 tap. Does it stay on or is it just to protect the tap

That aluminum line with the brass compression fitting that you are showing with the “residue “ on it is the compressed air line. You need to learn how that Shanendoah unit works, and how to service it. The nozzle assembly you removed is very easy to clean using either an ultrasound cleaner or an acid bath (GUNK one gallon carburetor cleaner). I’ve done quite a few of them for customers. Very easy to do.

Doesn't filtering the oil solve most of these issues? How else do they run Diesel engines on waste oil? That would be the solution imho, stealing ideas from Diesel engines.

Waste oil heaters are not meant to burn vegetable oil...... As far as having an "easy to clean" block..... the point of Shenandoah's block is to hold a lot of heat, to heat the oil as it comes through. The oil has to pass back and forth through the block, getting the oil up to temp. Your design just passes the oil over the heater element. Some of the oil is heated. You are sacrificing function, for ease of cleaning, which you should only have to do every few years. I've had my Shenandoah for 7 years, and I doubt it had been cleaned in the many years before that. It is finally needing cleaned. I would guess the heater to be 30 years old.

THANK YOU! That's such a good idea tapping into the vacuum system I wouldn't have thought of it and I work on vehicles all the time. I wish I would have seen this a week ago. I was going to take the old Duvall vacuum out of the barn and put a gas engine on it but it's so heavy I really didnt want to. I will be setting up something very similar tomorrow.
