Back in September I, and some other members of the Prairie Blacksmith Association were interviewed and filmed by a local news reporter, which was aired on the 10/11 News, Pure Nebraska segment. Tried a hundred different ways to get the original footage downloaded to my editing software, but none of them would run so you’re gonna have to settle for a recording of a phone.

Very slow killer. 10-15yd initial shots, 25-35 follow up shots. Watched one deer do a death dance for a solid minute behind some brush before it finally cleared it and fell over, allowing me to put a second shot into it. After that, the second let me walk right up on it, still very alive but very lethargic.

I built this to help train my children on how to lead a moving target. It is a simple two legged stand holding a bolt perpendicular that the adjustable length arm can pivot on. Arm extended out moves slower, arm bottomed out inwards moves faster. Device operated by means of stick and string. The counterweight on this is nowhere near tuned for optimum performance. Simplest Method For Producing Large Quantities of Charcoal
Brilliant
Every once in a while I have a good idea
good shit my guy
I have an 8 inch wrist. Is that ok?
You should get that looked at my dude.

Lovely video to watch, felt like I was home from the very first moment. Also like that this method doesn't require you to quench the charcoal - but rather uses the residual heat to carbonize the last wood into charcoal. I've now seen people use drums with holes in the bottom, and people using drums without holes in the bottom - and they both seem to work well.
You enjoyed it so much you didn't say where it was so nobody else could enjoy it.
I dont let people have nice things anymore after watching them destroy it last time.
Beer. Just plain....beer. LMBO 🙏🏻🔥⚒️🧙🏻♂️
Thats what I said too 😂
It looks and sounds like it was a fun-filled three days!!! Thanks for sharing. Nice dead head.
خسته نباشی بسیار عالی اسم اون پودر چی هستش وبرای چی استفاده میشه
The japanese invented a method that is a hybrid of the C tube method and the spiral wrap method. They would use one kind of steel for the C barrel and then wrap the C tube in another alloy of steel.
Got any documentation on that? I’d love to research it, if it isnt some weaboo bs.
@@veteranironoutdoors8320 the process is called undonbari it is similar to Russel's method with the additional coil reinforcement. I the abstract of read a paper from research gate written by hideo nakae of waseda university about the process. The process is very hard to find in film.

@@Zane-It any links you can provide? No matter what combination of words I try I cant get any hits for anything with “undonbari” in it.

Great job. You have some very well thought out techniques. You should put a lot of meat in the pot.
UFO is for long range... not 20 yards
If you are going to use the choke, is it not wise to know how it patterns close, medium, and far? So that way you can be prepared for any shot opportunity that presents itself. But hey, thanks for feeding the algorithm.
I was gonna save up and get their Sawyers anvil but now I'm gonna get a ruffinghaus. Thank you
charcoal actually very useful! It can used as filter for water or odor smell. Burn charcoal will have less smoke than firewood. You can also add charcoal into your gardening soil.
Is this how they used to make the barrels back then? Amazing work by the way
One of three ways we know of, yes.
Sticks and branch need to be dried or it can be also done with fresh cuts?
Dry.
@@veteranironoutdoors8320 thank you so much!

My only complaint is that these cartridges are too fragile for a fouled barrel. After 3-4 shots out of my smoothbore the cartridge will jam completely halfway down the bore, only boiling water could get it out. If you are firing more than 3 shots and or you know your bore is good and fouled, I would suggest biting and pouring powder like normal, but instead of trying to fit the entire cartridge: tear off all the paper just short of the wad for the shot. After that ram the torn paper on top of the powder as wading. Open the wad in the cartridge and pour the shot on top of the paper which is on top of the powder, then ram the rest of your now empty cartridge down as the final wading. That has been the way I have found the most success out of these.
You should watch the video where I shoot these, I show a handy trick you should use when the bore starts getting fouled to make loading easier. And your method leads to leading in the bore, which requires lots of elbow grease and if you don’t completely remove it, it can hide fouling underneath and rust/pit your bore, not to mention making loading anything more difficult.
Thank you.
There is devastation everywhere, everything is lying around, everything is overgrown with weeds. I thought it was in Russia. But they talk in English.
You gotta run this through a translator for me man. I used to be able to copy paste yalls comments into one but TH-cam changed their stuff so I cant do that anymore, and I dont have anything that can do cyrillics.

Venison in a "to-go" container. 👍👍🦌
I haven't seen it done this way. This is way easier than the other ways I've seen. This only takes a little more observing during the process. I will start my charcoal bin this way. Thanks fellas. From Australia🇭🇲!
That's why you need a piloted drill if you're going to open an existing bore. Either gonna have to make your own piloted drill with custom pilots too or you're looking at a lot of cash to buy one to your specs. Custom piloted drills from 36" long drill rod are actually really cheap and easy to make in straight flute format. I make them all the time and they're closer to true gun drills than twist drills. A harbor freight drill press, harbor freight cross slide vice and some cheap end mills and you can make your own straight flute drill. Use a center punch and make a jig to align and drill a pilot hole first. You can make a pilot from plain steel rod turned in your drill press and reduced and shaped with files. You can make bore and chamber reamers like this too.
Wont work, already tried. The hole isn’t straight or round enough, so they just snap the pilots off, or somewhere along the bit. And sometimes you get flux buildup in the bore which wont allow a pilot to advance.
Hi can I buy your riffle barel
Send an email to that found in my about section.
Hmm no preparation, our here in Philippines we cut first the wood that can fit in that drum, cut by bolo so that you have to load until it will finished..
You really should wear disposable butcher gloves.
We die like real man around here.
Nice job. And nice haul!
excelent idea
Most people clicking on this video want to see this test with steel, bismuth, tungsten etc, seeing as how many states don't even let you shoot lead at animals anymore. And lead patterns way different...
Putting a Boat Wench and mount it on the front of the bed … You could even mount it to a headache rack or tool box … much easier
Tell me you’ve never actually done that without telling me. If you actually have tried that you’d know it doesn’t work because the deer cant clear the 90° angle to get up and over into the bed without help by flopping be back half over and into the bed. So, is it really easier?
Thanks for feeding the algorithm though.
Great charcoal video, I need charcoal for purifiering water in survival situations.
I keep 6 2x6 boards in the bed of my truck to put under the wheels to help getting out of being stuck in mud. When I need to load a deer or big hog, I lower the tail gate, put the boards on the edge of the tail gate down to the ground and pull up the animal into the bed. I always have a small cooler in the bed and if I need to load a heavier animal, i make a longer ramp from the boards by placing boards tail gate to cooler and cooler to the ground.
That's a helpful technic
Does this hurt the deer?
This is nothing new. They were making barrels like this for 200 years. Just now we have better steel to start with. Nice work. Should hold with Black powder. Smokeless load might be different.
Got to love it nothing better then a 16
This was a great video. Really interesting and very well explained. Thank you guys and I wish you well.
