I would like to know how someone who is not as mobile as a spring chicken gets in and out of the Highlander?
Not as tough as it looks, the wing struts are behind the entry instead of in the middle of it or in front of it. It makes a big difference. It's nothing like trying to get to the front seat of a Cub.
@@TangoSierra2022 thanks for the reply, front seat on a cub is tough on us old folks
I know those parts. That's a sonex
It's known as an X-ring.... in industry. (9:50)
Walhalla is in South Carolina
I DO know that but somehow got it wrong anyway!
Nice progress! I actually just thought a couple days ago... wondering what you're up to, kinda crazy really. lol It's good to see you had some flying and camping this year. That kit is looking great.
Thanks. Life is so busy . . . .you know how it is.
The Sonex is a good choice. But Im probably a little biased. 🙂
We shall see. I think it will be fun.
Nice to see you are still add it
Good to see you again. Looks like you are thinner - or at least your beard. Happy you have work to do. Keeping busy keeps you young.
@@chriskyser1501 Very good eye you have. I dumped 45 pounds.
I happen to be another Michigan pilot, as I was passing thru 9D9. I was wondering how you were and your Rans project. Thanks for the update
Not a Rans!! I wish, but the lead time was too long . . . I'm an old guy, I can't wait around anymore!!
Hey Tom. So good to see you on YT again. Hope all's well on your side of the family. Mine is doing great with a couple blips in Kelly & Carter's life. Take care. Cousin Molly
Glad you’re back. Hope all is well👍👍👍. What plane ya building??
All good . . . . what do you think it is?
@@TangoSierra2022 Looks a lot like a Sonex!
@JaakkoIsWatching There'a reason for that!
Are you unable to finish the vans kit because of the bankruptcy? What exactly is the issue? Can you not get portions of the kit? There needs to be a way to get a refund.
@ginacalabrese3869 I had decided to sell the 7 kit and order a new 8 kit. Just prior to shipping the 8 to me Vans announced their shut down and financial trouble. The options were, keep your slot for delivery and endure a 30% increase or work through the bankruptcy courts and get in line for an estimated 50% refund. That was a lose, lose situation as far as I could see. I decided I didn't have enough faith in Vans anymore to continue. What if they didn't emerge from chapter 11 and refiled chapter 13? Too many unknowns.
I know Billy personally don’t let his accent fool you, he is one of the best and smartest in the business. The Just Aircraft is one remarkable plane and the guys at Just Aircraft and Billy pain build a great product
One of the good guys for sure.
One of my all time favorites!😊
Enjoyed.
there was one near mont laurier Quebec canada twenty years ago , i felt in love whit it , but was not prepare enough to buy it . i still love this plane , i love the look , would be nice on float for bush plane.
Murphy rebel is a Canadian Cessna 150/150 Texas tail dragger with 10more horsepower and a few more additions.
Certainly tons better performance than the 150's I have flown. I have 160HP.
WOW ,😮 a true labor of love .
The trials of building. Shortly after this video dropped he was flying off the test hours when the engine let go. He landed safely and was involved in a new engine the last I heard from him.
There’s one for sale right now but man that fuel consumption is a deal breaker
Thirsty bird fo sho.
With it clearly being purpose built, the target market probably doesn't mind the tradeoff.
It is scary if you are in it with 4 people, jumped out of it a few times :)
I bet.
Do you have a sport pilot or private pilot license? I have living places walking distance from both 5d5 and VLL all I want to do is fly around the state especially between Detroit area and all northern lower Michigan. I don’t know where to find sport pilot training only programs for full private license. Do you think sport pilot is enough for what I described? Thank you!
I would go all the way to private pilot, less restrictive. When I began flying many years ago all I wanted was a private license so that I could fly around Michigan. Sport pilot rating did not exist. Once I got bit by the bug however, I wound up with MEI/ATP/ Citation rated. Has taken me all around the world!
@@TangoSierra2022 sounds great and I would if it wasn’t for the medical exam. I met a sport pilot at the woolsey memorial pancake breakfast fly in and he seemed ok with it.
That's a real nice plane,I would love to fly one 😊
You should!
Great video! I can see myself cracking the canopy with one small mistake! Canopy installation has got to be improved by Sonex! Not everyone has your set of skills.
Mostly trial and error on our part. I have seen that the canopy design has been improved on newer models. You are right, something had to change.

Billy Payne seems like an awesome person...
Indeed he is.
He's an awesome guy
Which prop are you running?
All about props in this short video. Enjoy. th-cam.com/video/sOi7WawKVx4/w-d-xo.html
Hello, are pop rivets mostly used for the entire airframe? Or are they only used for part of it. If so then what else is used?
The Onex is all pop rivets (aviation grade pulled rivets) unless you decide to change the way some things are designed to go together. For example, the tail cone on a Onex is totally inaccessible when built to the plans with pop rivets holding on the belly skin. If you need to get in there, you probably can't. We split that belly skin and installed nut plates on the lower longerons, then dimpled the skin and put it in place with flat head screws. if you need to get into it now you will have screws to remove. At least you won't have rivets to drill out in that instance.
@@TangoSierra2022 Ok, How long did it take you to build the plane?
@@gabeplays9441 couple years.
Not sure if you have seen the Aermacchi AM-3CM Bosbok which is similar. I will have mine flying in the US next summer. Also has a GSO 480 but 3 seats tandem.
Interesting. Where will it be next summer?
Hi captain t are you still flying your Murphy
Yup. Can't find more bang for the buck.
Beautiful island. Great cinematography…
Thanks a lot!
Thanks for another great Michigan adventure video. What brand and model of tent is that?
Eureka, Copper Canyon. Just right. I hate climbing in an out on my hands and knees and getting dressed laying down. This cured all that.
Captain, great video! I'm surprised you don't have your 4 legged friend with you. My wife and I were up there a few weeks ago and enjoyed hiking on the trails and beach.
Sometimes it is easier to have a trip if I don't have to worry about him. Prolly won't happen very often, I keep looking for him when I go without him!
I've been wanting to go back so many great times and memories on north fox
If it is empty it is especially soothing.
Nice thank you
Welcome
What an Awesome destination and the ‘comfort stop’ was destination-worthy as well.
Woolsey is worth the stop. I didn't check this trip but there are usually bikes in the building for a quick ride to some really gorgeous beach. Just a water stop this trip. Would be worth spending some time there camping.
I love your videos! Single solitude, just enjoying being alive and being in nature.
Yup, a really great place to soak your head a few days. The video covered three days. Just moving on to another three day stop elsewhere might have been a grand idea. Maybe Madeline Island or at least Pricket and Grooms. Thanks for the support.
Why would you ruin the sound of an aircraft engine with elevator music? 🤮
When you begin editing your own videos you will understand how it works.
Hey Captain T, quick question for you. When you changed propellers (fans 😂)was the diameter the same for both props? What is the diameter? Thx
The Catto is about 2" longer I believe.
Big difference Was the pitch change, Went from 48 to 52. Not quite as hot off the ground, but a small penalty for the ability to get some cruise numbers.
Great vent. Pleasure meeting you at TZV.
Great meeting you guys too. Great airport you have there.
Hi captain my is the same I usually add a little power on flare. Regards Frank
Doesn't seem to be as bad as it was since I added the Catto. Which prop are you running?
Capt "T", you are brilliant as the 'Brits would say. You can't have too much cool air in these hot summer days! Sorry I missed you on my return to FL from Osh. Maybe next time. Best Regards, Wayne
Hope all was well on the journey! No busted knees or anything?
@@TangoSierra2022 Thank you for your reply. All went well, just a few Interstate "parking lots" on the way south. I am busy EDITING! Hope all is well with you. Best Regards, Wayne
Really cool a/c that I only recently discovered. But PLEASE...do something about those shoulder harnesses. Great way to turn a survivable crash into permanent paralysis.
Airplane has since been sold. We can only hope the new owner upgrades.
Looking forward to more videos! Production quality is excellent. Enjoy the summer flying weather & I hope you decide to make a trip down to FL for some winter Mooney flying this year.
I hope so too!
That being a california prop will it tax horse power from more fortunate aircraft with larger engines and give it to you?
Prolly that and the funds will be diverted to pay for crack pipe vending machines!
Capt. "T", great to see you are back on your channel with another fine video. Your Murf got a nice boost from that new Catto prop. I am headed to AirVenture in a couple of weeks, how about a meet-up? Hope to see you there or perhaps at your place on my way home. Keep up your great videos. Best Regards, Wayne
OSH is still, dare I say it, up in the air.
it's not called a fan, it's called a propeller.
Air screw.
enjoyed
Glad you liked it. Thanks.
Thanks. How is the RV project going?
RV project got sold. Too much life in the way at my age to start another whole airplane project.
Glad your back !!! Haven’t seen a video from ya in a while !!! I was thinking the mighty TH-cam was throttling you videos back !!! Anyways good to see you and Murphy up and flying !!!
All good, life just got out of control for a while. Working back into the fold slowly. Thanks for watching.
Thanks
No problem
Hi captain T. Oshkosh? I'll be there. Liked your video on your new fan you installed very interesting
