The Parcours Trail in Sand Run Metro Park can be accessed from the Treaty Line Area parking lot off of Treaty Line Road. The trail is a 1.5 mile loop that dips down into the valley before climbing back up to the ridge. There is some topography and the trail is of moderate difficulty. Along the trail are a series of stations designed to enhance the workout from just a hike into a full body exercise routine.
The trail has peaceful views of forested areas and some lowlands by Sand Run and the Cuyahoga River. It follows a pedestrian road for a short section, but the majority of the trail is within woods.
The hike was recorded mid-day on February 4th, 2025. It was a partly sunny day, and the park was mostly empty. The trail was icy and slick in parts, and the overnight freezes make slipping a real risk if you aren't careful.

On a narrow ridge, deep in the hills of Hoosier National Forest, in Jackson County, Indiana, there is a unique and isolated location that could easily be overlooked by the casual observer. The place is known as Hominy Mortar, named so for the long-told story that the rocks were once used by Native Americans to grind corn and other grains. However, the experts consulted by the U.S. Forest Servic...

The Mystery of Browning Mountain: Geologic Anomalies & Glacial Flooding in the Heartland of America

There are many theories regarding the origin and significance of the geologic formations at Browning Mountain in Hoosier National Forest, near the ghost town of Elkinsville in Brown County, Indiana. The site contains dozens of large, rectangular megalithic boulders arranged parallel to one another on the edge of one of the tallest summits in the state. Since the first settlers arrived in the ar...

I dunno, some of those look -very- _extremely_ similar to what can be found at "Mortar Rock Park" and a few other parks in Berkeley, california.

Yeah. Why can't they be both. Looks like Oak and other nuts are in the area. If you knew where the natural features like that were in the area and had some nuts or grains to grind, why wouldn't you use them? Common sense.

Could be from glaciers flowing over stones rounding out the rocks with said stones and water. As I remember there is a tourist attraction in Lucerne Switzerland that is literally dedicated to this kind of phenomenon. Google "Gletschergarten Lucerne". By the way I clicked on this because there are some holes in stones that are known to be made from humans in the BCs around here. So it is not impossible that the holes are from rituals or something similar.

There's a similar feature on top of the mountain on High Rocks above Wytheville. The one I know of seems to have a drain or gap on the side to let something out. It's also in the bedrock, not on detached rocks.

In my local forest (UK), occasional, near-perfect, circular holes/indents can be found on the thousands of granite (easily eroded) boulders and rocks. Most seem to be formed simply from water erosion, as in nearly every case they are facing exactly upward, and are filled through most of the year.

I've seen running water rattle loose rocks around in a depression until they carve a hole. If this had once been just downstream of the glaciers...?

There's what I believe to be a bedrock mortar in a creek in upstate South Carolina in an extended area where flint and quartz points can be found but the local anthropologist I consulted didn't think they were native american in origin. I gold pan as a hobby and have never seen anything like it in the many creeks I've explored in the area.

Nobody wastes energy climbing a mountain to grind corn. These holes are as natural as tafoni and Mystery Craters in Australia. Gas bubbles are spherical in liquid and circular on a firm surface.

It can be both. Here in central Texas there's areas along creek beds where the limestone bedrock has naturally formed divots from water but there are areas near known camp sites of natives that these natural divots were clearly modified over time to process food. You can often find the accompanying mano stones that perfectly fit into the depression and you can see where they were worked into larger divots.

The circular shaped holes are for antennas designed to capture, atmospheric electricity. Nothing to do with food processing at all.

The archeologists are upset because they are not allowed to dig up any fresh graves anymore! Those mountains are beautiful and if you go there during the longest day of the year, you may see how those stones matter! And you know they do! They just found a calender that was used by the natives up at 8000 feet on private property they bought the land because the rock drawings were being systematically destroyed and thank goodness they saved alot.Natives were building three story brick homes, and had a population of 1 million people, they found pearls, gold, diamonds, Rubies, Emeralds, and full sets of Armor for 8 foot tall human beings, over 20 of them and full burial outfits of copper, gold, and silver some 30 skeletons over 8 feet tall were dug up!I understand the giants were caretakers of the temples, they were all looted pyramids filled with artwork catlanite pipes and this civilization lasted for over 1000 years until they all died of the plege!but the coolest thing was that when all the valuables were gone, an archeologist finally took over the site. They found a few more giant skeletons but after 10 years of looking and getting the truth about this place they could never find any weapons of any kind, this would suggest the Navaho!Of course no one followed up!and they lost the bones again!I understand they are in private hands in Britain!to this day they are still looking for weapons arrow heads and bow and arrows etc the suits of armor were ceremonial covered with jewels.there was a guy with a wheel barrow who was melting the metals right on sight! But it is ironic that in the 1920s the president of the United States demanded all the gold be turned in! Now you know why!

Yes, there is a good chance that glaciers played some role in their formation...but that theory also has some issues. I made a followup video discussing the geology of the area and my own theory - check it out: th-cam.com/video/ME24PCiP-EI/w-d-xo.html
