Thank you, I suppose technically it is, but I guess I prefer to think of the D as an extension, and the minor 3rd is implied. Probably just my weird way of thinking about it :)

Dorian mode is a minor scale, as is Aeolian (otherwise known as natural minor), as is harmonic and melodic minor, as are many other scales with minor 3rds.

@@mojojams I know that. but a major 4th chord and a minor 7 I chord indicates dorian, if you play a minor scale over this, it's assuming the 4 chord is minor, which it isn't. the point is if you play only a minor scale over this, it's problematic. D dorian is technically C major which is why the D is a dominant 7. search "D dorian jam track" and you'll see. no offense, i just don't want people thinking they suck because it doesn't sound right unless you know what to avoid. th-cam.com/video/ba6pOSpAJTY/w-d-xo.html

No offence taken. Thanks for your insights. I'll admit that although I know my scales, i tend not to think too much about them when I'm playing, but rather I think more about chord tones and extensions and rely on my ear. I can see how labeling this as dorian would be helpful to some

Thank you for your kind words. I'm glad you enjoyed it. It can feel a little disheartening as it seems as though the more effort I put into an arrangement, the less engagement it receives. Although, I can completely understand how many musicians may prefer simplified arrangements. I think many just want to relax and 'zone out' from the world rather than feel constantly challenged. If I'm honest with myself, I can totally relate to this also :) I think I will begin to throw in the occasional minimal 'looped' style arrangement to hopefully please others and increase engagement. All the notes of the c maj scale work over this track. But I think in this case it helps to think of it as D dorian scale (this scale has all the same notes as C maj, but starting from D rather than C). Similarly the Dm pentatonic (5 note) scale shares all of it's notes with C maj. So I suppose it's less about the scale, but more about the notes you want to emphasize within that scale

I really appreciate the feedback…I was thinking that if I learn the major scales all over the neck…then I wouldn’t have to learn new fingerings for the different modes…like to you said - learning to emphasis the “right” notes…ps is that your artwork on the videos?

@@joevee5619 Practising all of your scales will certainly take you a long way. It's something I don't do enough to be honest :) But I would also recommend practising arpeggios too. Just don't forget to have fun :) The art is created using AI. The computer generates images based on various prompts/descriptions inputted. I've become quite fascinated by it

Thank you very much! My aim is to create backing tracks that have some character (or 'vibe') to them. Trying to keep them interesting and emotive without making them too busy. All the tracks on this channel were written specifically for the channel. Having said that, I have been spending a LOT of time on them (increasingly so!) and I haven't ruled out possibly developing them into full songs at a later time. I'm hoping to release content on a much more regular basis, as soon as i iron out the kinks in my workflow! Thanks so much for your kind words. I chose it because it allows me to customise everything from the guitar type, to the string type and guage, the action, the age of the strings, even the pickups.
