‘Drink more, Try More, Learn More’ - two mates tasting, learning, and sharing their experiences with wine from an unfiltered, unapologetically, unprofessional perspective. They aim to make wine more accessible and remove the snobbery of wine. Wine is meant to be enjoyed with good friends. Watch and listen to their podcast and short videos.
Where is the love for Merlot?
In this weeks episode we try Merlot and try to answer the question ‘where is the love for Merlot'? This week we try a 2020 Hickinbotham The Revivalist Merlot, Clarendon, McLaren Vale (sponsored by M.S Cellars) and a 2020 Sinano Wine Merlot, Nagano, Japan. Jason also explains 5 reasons why he thinks Merlot is not popular in Australia and Trent shares what the wine you drink says about you.
Shop and browse wines at Sydney’s premier fine wine cellar M.S Cellars. They are available online at www.mscellars.com.au or visit their store at 150 Longueville Rd, Lane Cove NSW 2066.

What’s your favourite wine from Savaterre?
Just been to Margaret River and tasted a Merlot that I was really impressed with. It's from a small producer called Altair.
Thanks for the tip. We’ll have to give them a try.
The irony of the movie sideways is that his prized possession the Cheval blanc is predominately Merlot…
@@williamgillespie6685 😂
What’s the greatest Australian wine that you’ve had?
What is your favourite international Merlot?
Awesome winery! One of the hidden gems of the Hunter Valley!
Completely agree! Hidden gem is the right term.
Just stumbled upon your channel recently, Loving the wine journey you guys are on. Also just begun seroiusly delving in myself. Keep up the good work!
@@mitchell6428 thank you 🙏 really appreciate the feedback.
It's a lovely soft red wine! Would love to see you guys try Pinotage, it was a wine grape that originated in South Africa. Makes for a lovely flavor
We’ll try it. Thanks for the recommendation!
Why do you think Merlot is special?
No shiraz, no believing it!
Let me ask ChatGPT 😂 Shiraz drinkers enjoys standing out, values sophistication without pretension, approachable yet adventurous. Often exploring finer things in life with warmth and enthusiasm
"--And enjoy a variety of activities?" How did you know?;111!1 This is so dumb imagine pairing someone with a wine based on their personality. Or trying to determine someone's personality off the wine theyre drinking? I must be just str8 up ded, i dont drink wine
All for a bit of fun. My Mrs also doesn’t drink 😅
@TheWinedUp i drink just not wine - so i guess i just dont exist lol
What wine do you drink and does it match your personality?
Why do you think Merlot is not popular in Australia?
what 😊❤

It's VERY subjective... Just enjoy what you enjoy !

Good work boys! Love how you are rating out of 10!!!! 👏😀✌🏻
@@jeremydavis4372 thank you!🙏
As a young wine I love The Beauty. With age I love The Beast and Clos Otto.
Yes, that completely makes sense! It was hard to choose between them.

What’s your favourite wine from Yangarra Estate?
Really interesting: Le Nez Du Vin. Is there anything similar to help train the sense of taste I wonder? I often hear in wine tastings descriptors used that I have no idea about because I haven’t tried them e.g. cassis. I’d love a similar kit to help me train my sense of taste.
Completely agree regarding descriptors that we haven't tried before! We haven't seen one for training the sense of taste, but let me know if you find one.
Been tempted to buy this so super curious to hear your thoughts
$700 for the 50 taster, I would like it as well.
We were fortunate to have it gifted to us. The previous owner was using it for formal study. As it’s not cheap, we’d only recommend it to assist with formal study or if you’re very serious about detecting and naming the aroma.
What do you think of the Somm3 movie?
Well played lads, have enjoyed watching your jouney from here in London. See you next year.
@@jpbambridge that’s awesome to hear all the way from London, thank you! We’re planning on doing some English wine episodes soon.
Hey guys, great work with the podcast this year! As a fellow amateur wine lover I’ve enjoyed watching your journey with wine, and you’ve had some great guests and interviews on the channel.
@@wce_fan thanks so much for the feedback! Much appreciated! We’re hoping to have more great guests on in 2025

Who’s story would you like to hear in 2025?
What was a unique wine that you tried in 2024?
What wine did you love to drink in 2024?
Rob walters at bibendum imports wine globes. His label place of changing winds use them. Would be interesting to find out if light strike is an issue. Cheers boys
@@cameaux3000 thanks for the tip!

Love a good Fiano lads...particularly Fiano di Avellino from Campania. Often has saline and nutty notes. I think Australia has all the ingredients to make super Fiano but just need to find the right terroir. Ravensworth and Collector in Canberra have two good examples. Keep up the good work.
@@tonypark9105 thanks! We definitely need to have more Fiano. We’re hoping to head to Canberra in the next few month so hoping to try your recommendations. Cheers
What Loire wines are you drinking this summer?
What wines will you be drinking in Summer 2025?
€209,99
Done! 🤘🏻🍷
But after you flip it it all pretty much mixes back together, and honestly to describe wine tasting i need just a few words, €2,50 wine won the Gilbert and Gaillard. A €2,50 wine won the gold against wines from all over the world, it's all talk and self placebo.
@@lefisheauchocolat968 yeah that’s right. At the end of the day everyone’s taste is different so a wine that one person likes isn’t going to be the same wine that another person likes. Watch the full episode this Sunday because we don’t think this is an essential tool, but could pick up some differences.
Decanting does change the flavor, but yeah who’s to say if either is objectively better
Yeah we agree. handling sediment is definitely one of the drawbacks. More useful for younger wines. We couldn’t afford the Menu so we wanted to try this alternative 😂
I bought the menu wine breather for the same reason kept seeing it everywhere…it gets very limited use for older wines as there is no strainer for sediment.
The algorithm is working 😂

It’s not funky. It’s always bone dry as all the sugar converts to alcohol within those 6 years in barrel. I don’t know where you got the idea that they open the doors to let heat in..

This was a great watch guys. I wonder though if the more expensive wine would be a lot better once both wines had the chance to open up? Be good to do something like this with two wines when drunk as soon as the bottles have been opened then say a couple of hours after to see if the wine that costs twice as much really shows its straps against the cheaper wine.
@@jrisles thank you! Yes that is a really good point. We didn’t have more time up our sleeve on that occasion so that’s a great idea for a future experiment/episode. Very curious to know if the more expensive one would win the race!
