San Esteban Iguana Feeding on Mulberry
As usual great video, I already use these anyway along with metal halides and T5 14% UV tubes but here is a really good tip that you may want to include, your video shows you taking the bulb element out of the box and does not show the foam packing tube around it that it comes with, this packing should be used to handle the bulb if you touch the bulb with your fingers it leaves grease on the bulb (the stuff your prints are made of) this causes hot spots on the surface of that bulb and they can burn out faster. This has always been the case with all halogen elements for as long as I can remember.
You think I could put a basil plant in my tank like in a pot Or are there any better plants
Off topic but I am curious about the bulbs, I got mine and I ordered a few 100 watt and even about 18" away from the basking my basking area gets too hot, my enclosures are 4x2 so what wattage do you use? I can put a dimmer switch on them but then I hate to loose some of the surrounding light beam. Thanks
Captives seem to be much more mellow for sure!
So did Josh keep running or did he regain his senses and come back?😂
Thats cool. Ill probably pick up one of these. Ive been switching over to deep heat projectors. So far been really liking them.
what temps are you getting off them?
@@lonevoice7935 why that depends on the wattage, cage style, and distance from the basking spot of course :)
@@aridsonly like in the cages behind you at that distance and wattage? does the crystal lens increase heat as well this needing a lower watt bulb? are they dimmable . great video thanks
@@lonevoice7935 yeah those house uros so they hit 130 on the basking platform. The lens does make them warmer and they are dimmable. You can also switch wattages in the same base unit which rules.
@@aridsonly very nice! thanks
Finally, replacement bulbs at about $3 each? That's much better, but I still miss the 4 for 88 cent incandescent bulbs we used to get before congress decided to outlaw them. I don't know if it is the case with these, but I used to use a similar technology floor lamp with a filament that looked very similar. When using that lamp, the instructions were never to touch the filament with your bare fingers. The oil on your fingers at the high temperatures cause the filament to fail sooner. Not sure if it is true with these bulbs, but you might want to look into it.
I was taught to never touch a halogen filament with your bare hands as well; goes back to when they used to have halogen replacement bulbs for headlights.
UV?
Nice one
I'm in Colorado, what substrate would you recommend?
Susan is great, as are those big, friendly iguanas. There is something more intent and interested - not sure what the word is, something different as they check you out, compared to many other big lizards. Do you know what I mean? Could it have something to do with being vegetarian?
Cool story. What are the enclosures in the back? And what size are they?
Beautiful. Saw one sell for 20k on morph market. Crazy, but worth it if you're a breeder
So cool, the curiousity and interest is really neat to see. Thanks for sharing
They really are the best!! Glad to see she’s super chill for you
Awesome lizard, man! I've been loving the consistent updates you've been doing!
Thought on the Exo-Terra Stone Desert substrate? It's similar to excavator clay in some ways. I was planning on making some caves/structures with the stuff, but wondering if it's better off to avoid it
@@Geo_frog yes I mention it in the video as a great bedding, perfect mixer (25% with other bedding) for uros
Thx Phil for the info. Side question, is the basking rock for xenagama real one or artificial one?
@@reptikim it’s a real rock yes
Based on your channel name do you only collect species from Deserts? They are my favorite places on Earth
@@IronHorsefan1869 yep that’s right!
Phil this is great shit. Thank you a trillion for your contributions.
How do you fell about bio active? like Bio dude?
@@zsworld6609 I don’t think uromastyx can be kept long term in a “bio active” setup, never seen it done before
@@aridsonly I am working on doing that exact thing. I've been able to hold it up for a couple months so far, but we will see if I can keep it up long term.
I've made an attempt at it. I have 6 inches of playsand, topsoil and pea gravel mixed. The top layer dries out but the lower layers stay moist, which the Uro seems to like for burrowing (not wet, moist). I have Mealworm darkling beetles (eat poop and leftover food), Giant Canyon isopods (same) and Cotton springtails (keep mold in check below soil layer). I have kept it going for 7 weeks now, including growing lentils and millet in the soil for the Uro to eat. My humidity has not gone over 30% yet.
Lovely lizards!❤️🔥
He’s got a ferocious expression!
So cute, she seems so chill!
Pretty cool. Where'd you get it from?
randy from reptilian heaven was a wealth of knowledge. i also worked for him. great content!
My ornate wont eat from my hand. Flees every time i open his cage. Any advice?
I have 2..I got them at Daytona breeder expo ..we're green now grey and black ...I love these 2 run to there food every time ..I think my favorite lizzards
In my opinion this approach sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. What I've seen almost always work is what Ty Park does and many others too which is handling them and petting and rubbing them under the chin, the body, the head, etc etc etc with the tail being the last you do once they've pretty much tamed down and always letting the session end in a good relaxed way where they're relaxed and you just let them go back into their enclosure by themselves without hurrying them or anything, at their own pace. As long as you do that continuously and only skipping some days, I've generally seen lizards become what many call puppy dog tame.
It would be impossible to be a Uromastyx lover and not love tortoises too!
Makes sense! Just like the soil in a plant pot, needs moisture to keep it viable, or it breaks down into dust.
wow. beautiful.
O my good
Pretty babies. If I could get one I would get this kind of Uromastyx. They pretty. We have too many animals right now.
That’s has to be a few years old , mine is just over 2 years old and no where near any colour like that
@@andrewkeenan7980 nope. Hatched here at my facility.
Do these coral up as the age?
@@jasonk2947 yes
@ ive been interested in getting one or a pair (currently have two morph dragons) but afraid to end up with brown babies that don’t color up like their parents
❤️🔥
in th 90's I had a Tokay that escaped. It terrorized my mom for months before I caught it.
Ive had my ocellated uromastyx for a week now and Ive been binging your videos. Your input of information has been invaluable! Thank you very much!
They are so very beautiful! This is the exact kind of Ornata I want for my next Uro. My yellow geyri passed of cancer in August and I want another one so bad!! Yours are so gorgeous!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
what basking temperatures do you keep your babies
Pretty cool!
Ha! I love that one using your hand just to get closer to it’s breakfast.
I sure do love these creatures❤ Please! Keep recording your interactions with her!
Iam planning on getting Me A Nice Pair I will raise them from Sub adults to Adult Breeding Size and Age..🎉🎉🎉
🔥🔥🔥
How tame is she usually?
I love these Uros more and more with every new trait they show!❤
Dang! Mama’s gonna take those fingers right off! 😂❤
