As an amateur pianist, I’m learning pieces I love and making mistakes along the way. Enjoying the music as I figure my way through it.
I’m happy to be able to share my piano practices with people who are interested in the effort it takes to learn classical music pieces.
The messy practices with imperfections, mistakes, and repetitions are usually hidden from the public eye. We only get to see perfect performances by top/professional pianists and musicians most of the time, but for people like me who simply enjoy piano music and playing the piano, I want to share that mistakes and imperfections are natural and one can enjoy the music without playing the pieces perfectly.
Thanks for being a part of my journey.
Let mistakes happen and enjoy the music.

Beautiful ❤
Thank you 🫶
I am learning this now too. I learned Chopin's Nocturne op 9 no 1 recently and them my teacher assigned this. I amm struggling with the page with polyrhythms. I just memorized the page yesterday. I can play the 10/3 and 11/3 poltyrhythm. I struggled playing the 8 over 3 in time. My trills also dont always come out. Sometimes the last tirll dies down. I also then lose stamina for the run leading up to the climax. Going to work super slow on this work. Thanks for showing your practice session! It is inspiring. You learn so fast and so much in 25 minutes. 😮 You inspire me.
Thank you so much for sharing your learning journey with me! I’m honored that you find my practice session inspiring…. That means so much to me and gives me great motivation to continue sharing my journey. Polyrhythms are very difficult. I continue to work on playing it smoother each time… I love that you are practicing it slowly which is incredibly helpful in understanding all the notes that are going in between each other. I also find that in addition to playing the notes and trying to fit them in with each other, it helps to zoom out from the technicality and listen to the melody itself… once I have a grip on the notes and can play them fairly smoothly with both hands combined (even though the polyrhythm is still not quite right), I then take a step back and play it with only listening to the music by ear. Your ear will tell you what sounds better to you and make small tweak each time to smooth out what stood out to you. I hope this small trick would be helpful to you. I’m learning Chopin Nocturne Op. 55 No. 2 currently, and still ironing out the bars with polyrhythms 💪🏻 PS. Here’s an update on my practice of the Op. 72 No. 1 recently… t’s still a work in progress :) th-cam.com/video/gLU8Ujt5Inc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=6UQEVJhNPqP_lqxh

Fingertips that fit in between the black keys would make some parts so much easier for me...
Place your hands lower on the piano
@4samul yeah, that's what I do, because there is no other way around it, but in some contexts, when you need to play both whites and blacks as chords or in rapid succesion, it forces unnatural shapes in the hand that are near impossible to get up to tempo.
@@piokul So true! Our hands/fingers all have different limitations because of how they are built… all we can do is find some way around it that still allows us to play the music. Chopin’s pieces are particularly challenging on many occasions… I love that you are finding methods and trying different ways that work for you 👏🏻💪🏻
Gorgeous piano. Nice playing.

Love the way you play it. It's so smooth
Thank you for your kind words!
wow; the progress really shows !! what would be your advices for the right hand here ?
Thank you for your kind words @ahauntinglybeautifulmelody ! It is really a difficult passage to learn. The repetition and fingering/position of the right hand is the most challenging… I tried playing it very slow, separating each chords (ie. Play only the repeat of the top/bottom notes, and only the repeat of the middle notes), applying the short long/ long short rhythm to it, and especially ironing out the fingering transitions between different chords. Is this a piece you are learning as well? Love to hear your thoughts! 💕
@@aimlessspaceoh no unfortunately i am nowhere near the level to even THINK of starting this 🥲 but i’ll get there someday hopefully ! :) thank you for the advice, i‘ll think of your practice tips in my other pieces :) Good luck in your practice sessions and have fun !

It’s so great seeing how you practice the piece. Thanks for sharing!
I'm impressed, it's quite the same way as I practice but on Euphonium, I thought that it would be different since they are so different.
Wow amazing, I had no idea this method works for Euphonium as well! Thanks for sharing!
Nice practicing!
Thank you! I’m eager to get back to it in the New Year! Took a long vacation in December :)
this nocturne is TOUGH !! it’s so hard to keep a relaxed wrist, by the way what’s your reach ?
Totally! I need to get back to practicing in the New Year, took a long vacation in December :) My reach is probably an octave plus one more key. What about you, how do you practice this piece?
@@aimlessspaceoh no i haven’t played it, it’s just that my past experiences with legato double thirds/sixths/etc makes me instantly realize this must be pretty tough. What would be your advice to tense as little as possible ? Also by the way currently i am onto Op 32 no 1, have you already played that one ? :D
@@più_lento_28_13 Absolutely! This pieces has been the most difficult piece I’ve learnt so far from Chopin’s Nocturnes. It’s natural to get tense, I’m with you on that! I’m working on integrating the wrists and forearms when playing and releasing tension during practice whenever I can… I’m not there yet. I’ve found playing the passages with short long or long short rhythms have been helpful in many ways. How do you usually practice? Wonderful about Op. 32 No. 1, beautiful! I haven’t learnt that piece yet, it’s in the cue. I want to learn to play every single Chopin Nocturne :) Love to hear about your progress!
@@aimlessspace oh ! i’ve heard about that short-long rhythm practice technique, it is helpful indeed, i actually use it when i struggle with a passage (especially scales or something like that). I try to practice very mindfully and make sure all my wrist/hand is relaxed before hitting the next note or chord. For very precise passages, like a couple difficult bars, i do this shaking thing where, just after hitting a chord a slightly shake my hand to “shake off” the tension, and continue. I know this is pretty obvious but at the end it all comes down to practicing slowly and mindfully. But i really am NO expert 😅 If i may suggest you a video that might help you for this nocturne, you can check this out: th-cam.com/video/atjunLTHRfI/w-d-xo.htmlsi=dD9vLpkjxAmxQN2J Hope it will help you, good luck in your practice :D i dream of playing all of them one day as well :)
@@più_lento_28_13 thank you so much for sharing! Josh’s tutorials have been very helpful. That’s amazing you are really putting in the work on releasing tension. I’m inspired to do the same. 💪🏻 Thank you for your encouragement. I’m happy to hear we are both on the path to learn all Chopin’s nocturnes. Go for it!

Same. Never get tired of Chopin’s music! Thank you for your kind words ❤
beautiful, i love how lightly you played that mini scale at the end. What would be your advice to practice those ? I’m struggling with the end of the C-Sharp minor nocturne #20
Thank you for your kind words @ahauntinglybeautifulmelody! The Nocturne in C sharp minor #20 is one of my favorites! The scales at the end of that piece is not easy… I recently found a way to practice the scales in the Chopin Nocturne pieces I’m learning. Try practicing with playing the 2 adjacent notes together in the scale so you can get familiar with the distance between each note required on the fingers. I found this practice trick has helped me a lot in my playing. Check out my previous short video where I demonstrated this practice trick at the end :) th-cam.com/users/shortsp8Lyu7EXQpc?feature=share I hope this is helpful to you!
@@aimlessspace thank you so much, I never thought of it that way, i’ll certainly try it on my next practice session ! Also, i want to really emphasize on how thankful i am for you sharing these videos. Chopin’s music is my life and, not only it makes me so happy to see other fellow musician sharing this same passion for theses eternal melodies, but also your channel allows me to relate to someone. This is what the life on an amateur pianist actually is. People see us play a piece for 3 minutes and tell us that « we’re so talented » (which feels awesome ofc!), but it is actually the result of everything you show in here. As you say in the description of your channel, we only see perfect performances on youtube, but we don’t realize the countless hours spent of those pieces, sometimes countless hours spent on a couple of bars that only last a few seconds. Your channel is a goldmine for me and i’ll certainly keep coming back to it as i’ll keep growing and learn more nocturnes :)
