A smartwoodworking
I’m a woodworker with interests in life on the water. Additionally, I enjoy all parts of home remodeling taking many projects down to studs and back to new finishes. I’ve built two sailboats with my brother and I also enjoy cabinetry and furniture making. However, I’m just as likely to start something completely new. I’m learning French online through a school in France. Sometimes I just never know what will catch my eye and lead me to a new hobby.

Good footage that captures some of the VC history. Amazing tunnel work
That was so funny how the teacher demanded your youtube and put it up for the class. lol.
This was great to see how the class is taught in France. Thank you.
Thank you for the video. I just moved to Montpellier. Do you know where I can meet English students?
On Wednesday evenings at the Panacee there is a meet up to speak French but I hear mostly English is spoken. Also there is the Beehive restaurant and a couple of Irish pubs where English speakers congregate.
Très joli village
Shell island?
That's right
Thanks for uploading this, it’s really insightful! I’m moving to Montpellier this month to learn French too. Really interesting seeing how others have found it :)
I built a CLC Peeler Skiff 10 years ago when I was 68. She lives on a saltwater mooring in a cove off Narragansett Bay. We put a fresh coat of paint on her this spring and she looks brand new. Building her with my 2 oldest friends was enormous fun and she is being used by 3 generations of my family. One of the best investments I've ever made.
Thank you so much for this share. I'm considered doing a year (or more) of language like this. So it was very helpful to see what a day might feel like, of being in the room learning with other internationals, then outside, then doing it again the next day. That amount of time...is like a marathon! While also having a youtube channel. haha, so this is exactly my plan. I mean this was literally the closest thing to my plan I've seen-even our age! I hope I can find a video that explains why you went, and how long you were there. Or did you stay? I'm seeing a recent St Guilhem upload... I don't know if you get around to dealing with comments on your old videos, but were you on FOOT for the journey to the school? That seemed like quite a distance and I wondered if you were on a bike. But I see in a more recent video, you had a weight transformation in Thailand (congrats!), and maybe this was how it started...
I've studied 3 more times in Montpellier since this video and loved every minute of it. Meeting folks from around the world, the food, the architecture, and generally the outstanding outdoor restaurant/café/bar culture there makes it so awesome. I walked in Montpellier everywhere and averaged about 6 miles a day total. Always less than a mile to any destination but also they have extensive public transport. Last year I studied French at LSF for 3 months and walked 500 miles for exercise. I also went to the gym 6 days a week. You won't regret studying in Montpellier and I can recommend LSF.
@@asmartwoodworking Wow! What a story. Thank you so much for the follow up, and details. You're living some kind of life! A lifetime of work and craft seems to have really allowed you to go Frank Sinatra and "do it your way."😀

I don't get it... Where are the bloody knuckles? where are the hand tools flying through the air? Where is the cursing? WHAT KIND OF BUILDER ARE YOU??? Just kidding, you're off to a nice start, hope this went well for you. I'm seriously considering this boat for my first retirement project. Semi skilled amateurish cabinet guy here. Any chance the Smart T shirt is from Smart cabinetry?
I built the boat maybe 3 years ago now. Pandemic project. It was fun. As with any boat, I don't use it as much as I thought. On to other hobbies. I'm a self-taught furniture maker no relation to cabinet makers.
Wow ❤❤❤
Wow
As I understand it.... this skiff is 15 ft not 16 ft..... I didn't catch your horsepower but assume it's 20
Just under 16 feet makes it easier to title in Florida. Yes, 20hp motor.
Merci Pauline.
This was amazing and helpful please make more of these.
Your Mixture: *EPOXY RESIN + ACTIVATOR + Cab-O-Sil)? Anything else? I'm copying you, because you do amazing work!!!
Chesapeake Light Craft gives you two different thickeners with their epoxy. One is for fillets, a wood powder, and one is for strong bonding. Check out their website for additional info on epoxy and thickeners.
I love simple wooden boats.
Je me bien souviens !
Love all your information. Thank you for your time. Would it have been possible to run the cables in the starboard flotation seat?
Anything’s possible, but I think that because of the curve from the side to transom then link to outboard it would have been difficult. I want to keep the integrity of the flotation chamber. Maybe you could run a 2 inch PVC in there and heat it up to make the sweep needed for the cable to make the turn to the outboard.
Congratulations on the build. She is beautiful!
Thanks. It was a blast to build...and now to use.
Everything amazing in Barcelona 😊
Estoy de acuerdo.
That looks and sounds so peaceful & relaxing. On your way back, could you pick me up some salt? I’m running low.
It was kind of peaceful in a tiring, sore feet and sweaty sort of way. Satisfying to have done the round trip.
An unforgettable city Arles 🇫🇷❤️🌎
are the stiffener's part of the kit or are you beefing things up?
Part of the kit
I did put a piece of mahogany 2x2 in the stem I had left from another project with fillets and fiberglass tape on each side. That all I added in addition to the kit.
If I were doing it with flip flops on my toes would be stuck to the boat😂
It's the official footwear of Florida.
I enjoyed watching. Basic and solid.
Thx. I cringe a little when I watch these vids from 2 years ago. I had a crap camera phone and not many editing skills.
Where can I buy this?? 🤩
Any local wood worker should be able to make you one. I've seen some available from online retailers.
Ordering up one this month. I hope to have it built by mid-summer. I am sure a few days off of work will help get it done faster than just a few hours here and there. Living right off the Chesapeake, my wife, daughter, and I will be using the boat for fishing and crabbing. I was not sold on the center console, but I think you may have sold me on it. This was a beautiful project. Thank you for taking all the extra time to film, and who knows how much time to edit. Sit tall and proud in that seat and enjoy the ride.
May you enjoy the build and the boat.
How's the build going?
Man, I have been watching all of your Peeler Skiff videos, and the pup was in so many of them. This dog appears to have lived an extraordinary life and got tons of love. Every dog should be this lucky. May your heart heal, and you find joy in all you did for and with him.
Thanks for your kind words
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks for the thumbs up.
I was thinking a kit would be easy to build. Seeing it like that is a lot of work! Nice boat!
It was a lot of work but I really enjoyed that thru the pandemic. About four months of 2-3 hours a day.
Sir your Camera is shaking
Yeah I had a really crappy phone camera back then (moto g6). I use a galaxy s21 now which is far superior.
I enjoyed your build videos. I built the Peeler Skiff last fall and winter. Got it in the water in April and I've enjoyed many good trips with it already. It was a good project and I get lots of compliments at the boat ramp. I chose the 20 hp Suzuki as well. The boat performs well and I wonder why the designer was so conservative on the power recommendations. The boat is super strong.
I agree with your power assessment. the 20 hp motor is the same motor as the 9.9 so same weight.
I watched all your build videos for this boat. Must be a wonderful feeling getting to use the boat after all the hard work. Great work!
Thanks, I really enjoyed building it and if you watched all the videos you’ll know I also learned to video and edit which I had never done before. Thanks for watching.
how you doing?.A~ this is awesome content, all the best!
Thx
Which app did you download to purchase the train and tram?
Montpellier tramway i used M’Ticket TaM and for rail use in France i used SNCF Connect
Such a good teacher 😉
Merci
Beautiful region. Great transport. Friendly people. ❤🇬🇧
It really is! I’m definitely going back in the future.
The scenery of the car window is beautiful 😄👍
