I know that the alpha is often omitted in the first person of at least some of these verbs (αγαπώ, τραγουδώ, απαντώ). Is this also regarded as correct and, if so, is either version preferred?

I am from Pakistan and i speak Urdu and it has Γ and Δ sounds which are غ and د respectively. Therefore i don't have problem to pronounce these alphabets

Nothing of what he says is a given. I'm a picky eater so if I go along with everybody eats everything I end up eating very little but still have to pay an equal part of the bill which is unfair. So I order my own plate and make sure its price is about my share of the bill. Nobody has objected to this so far. I have also found that the people who insist on plates for all are the people who eat the most, in essence taking advantage of this system to their benefit. Also equal sharing of the bill is up to a point. If someone eats or drinks a lot they are expected to pay a bigger share at the end. If they avoid that they will simply not get invited again. A good rule of thumb regarding tips is 10% of the bill, unless the bill was very high. And remember, if the owner of the business is serving you (not unusual in small family restaurants in the countryside) don't tip them, it is considered pointless and a little embarrassing. Tipping in Greece is a way to show you were satisfied with the service you received and not to supplement the server's wages as in the US. If you were not satisfied don't tip.

Let people be free. Greek culture is not about setting burdens like this to a person. Just talk with the others at the table of what you like as a personal dish to have and of what you would like to have as a shared dish with the others, talk also about whatever you want to ask, the people at the table know that you are a foreigner, they are not there to judge you but for you to feel as one of them. That's the Greek culture meaning.

Also, avoid ordering "variety" platters ("ποικιλίες"). Instead of ordering a platter for four persons, take some time to go through the menu and pick four different dishes.
