Breaking All The Rules In Star Wars Shatterpoint | Cinematic Battle Report
Join me as I recount my experience of playing Star Wars Shatterpoint for the first time. A miniatures used in this gameplay video come from the Core Set. Prior to this I have only played Star Wars Legion using only the core sets, so I wanted to give this game a go and so far am loving it.
As this was my first time playing I do get several rules wrong so please do not consider this a how to play.
Please enjoy this cinematic battle report!

You are criminally underrated my guy.
You did a Great job! Thanks for sharing.
Whats the name of the biting thing you use to grav the arms to hold while painting 😮?, (sorry im super new to this)
Probelens for the win
Freaking loved watching this! Please keep these coming!
Love the models! This is really helpful, thank you!
Thank you for this guide! A lot of people have videos and they are using paints I don't already have. You cover a lot with the Army Painter paints which is great and I want to thank you for that!
Really really really enjoyed this format. Keep it up!
A quick note for the video! This is my first time playing the game so there are SEVERAL rules throughout the video that are wrong. Please do not use this as a How To Play video!
Good editing and effects. But you do a lot of rule errors. Set aside the absolute wrong handling of the struggle meter (wrong placement of momentum, forgoten momentum, forgoten to take points), you also do a lot of movement errors. Jump is only a dash, not a full move for example. I hope you work on the rule part. I mostly watch shatterpoint videos for learning the rules because i only played once and did a lot of mistakes by myself :P
There are SO many rules errors that happen in the video haha This was my first time playing Shatterpoint, but the video was so much fun to make I had to upload it errors and all. But yes this is certainly NOT a how to play video. If I do anymore Shatterpoint content the rules will be correct.
This is amazing. Awesome video ❤
Thank you so much!
Great camera work
Thank you so much!
Subscribed, hope to see more high quality stuff like this from you!
Thank you so much I’m glad you enjoyed the video! I have several more videos planned which I’m very excited about. The only time I get a chance to work on these is for a couple hours after work so I’m doing my best to get the next one out as quick as I can.
@TotallyNotAMimic totally understandable, I also can imagine that these take a long time to make, so don't rush anything and remember to have fun while doing it haha
Is shatterproof worth trying
I’ve been really enjoying it. You get everything you need for two players plus terrain in one box. The models are gorgeous and fun to paint. Do you enjoy skirmish type games?
@@TotallyNotAMimic I play warhammer every once In a while
@@dudeplayz2389 Have you looked into Star Wars Legion? That’s probably closer to Warhammer if you’re looking for something similar. But so far I’m finding Shatterpoint to be a lot of fun.
Really great vid. Love the production. Would love to see more.
Thank you so much! I would love to make more!
Amazing cinematography. When you wound an enemy character you get momentum token.
Thank you! And yes, gotta remember that for next time.
Very nice video, got me hooked till the end. Keep them coming!
Thank you so much! I’m really glad you enjoyed the video. I’m certainly going to do my best to make more!
Exceptional production quality! I can only imagine how much editing time this takes, but the quality shows
Thank you so much! It took about five days to edit, but I’m slow and had to learn how to do most of it as I went. Filming everything also took about five days.
Barring the misunderstandings that were present, for a first game, not bad. Those little things will definitely improve as you play more games, and get more comfortable with triggers, wordings, and the like. Sounds like you have already acknowledged some of the misunderstandings, so no need to hammer in on those. Look forward to seeing your progress and improvement in future videos
@@TotallyNotAMimic I get that. I chose a method for filming my own that is a bit on the quicker side. We can hammer out a video in about 1:30-2 hours, but it lacks the cinematic flair that your style brings. It can take a lot of time to do, especially in between real life responsibilities
@AegisbrandStudios Thank you for that, I really appreciate it. I had so much fun making the video I didn’t want those errors preventing me from sharing it. I was really worried that I’d get a lot of angry comments haha Not only am I new to Shatterpoint but new to the miniatures games hobby as a whole. I’ve only picked up models because I really enjoyed painting them. The only game I’ve played prior to this was X-wing.
@AegisbrandStudios Exactly this! I wish I had five days in a row to get the editing done haha. But yes life and work takes priority. I’m going to watch some of your battle reports so I can be clearer on the rules and make sure I’m getting those right. I also saw you do MCP as well which is another game I’m very interested in learning how to play.
Subscriber acquired. Keep them coming mate!
Thank you! Will do my best!
Please please please make more of these videos for Shatterpoint, or even Legion or MCP! Five minutes in and your style is all ready 200% more interesting than 99% of the other videos out there. You've got yourself a new subscriber!
Thank you so much that's so kind of you! I would love to make videos in this style for Shatterpoint, Legion, MCP and more. It's just me working on these videos and it takes quite a while to just get one done, but I for sure am trying to make more.
Agreed, best Shatterpoint vid I’ve seen on TH-cam. Please make another!
Thank you! I'll do my best!@@DarioLirioCreator
This is a pleasant surprise after two years of no uploads
I have been off working on my masters degree and have just finished. So now I'm trying to get back into it, if life allows I hope to be uploading a lot more videos.
Nice format. But need to look at how the struggle tokens work. Also Max could have used a lot more of Mauls abilities when he activated him with Shatterpoint. Jetpacks only allow movement using the smaller move template. Please do more videos though.
Yeah I realised way too late that I had totally got the struggle token part wrong, but didn’t want to scrape all the work that had already been done. But I know now for the future! This was quite literally the first game of Shatterpoint we played. I’m glad you enjoyed it despite all the errors!
@@TotallyNotAMimic yep. We all make mistakes. The more we play the better we understand. Really hoping you make more vids.
Thank you, and thank you for being kind in the way you pointed out the errors. So many people on the internet would have just hurled insults.
Alternatively, you can make a replacement using blustaf
Im horrible at working with it haha
I love the 501st and 212th colors! By far the best colors I've seen for them!
Thank you so much!
Looks horrible. Uneven colors, the white needed at least one more coating. All those random splashes of black wash look ugly and unnatural . This is not how you paint any figure.
They look great, but i think your squad marks are from phase 2
They are, I really like the legion markings on Phase 1 armor :)
3:35 - a missed opportunity to say "no mistakes - just happy accidents"
You're so right! I guess not saying it is just a happy accident as well.
😊
Is Army Painter Grey Uniform spray paint comparable to Vallejo grey primer? Great tutorial, I’m looking forward to giving this a whirl
I can't say for certain as I have not tried using Army Painter spray can before.
I tried to prime a clone with GW white scar from a spray can and it didn’t seem to be sticking very well. In some it stuck but in others it was very runny. I’m not sure if I didn’t shake the can enough or if the temperature outside had anything to do with it.
Make sure its shaken really well. Also the humidity of your area can have an affect on it. Cool dry places get the bet results.
⭐️ very well presented and a great result 😎 ⭐️ thanks 👍
Thank you so much!
Great video, cheers bro
Thank you!
🙃 i found this video minutes after i finished building him
Oh no! Well if you come across another then add magnets to that one?
Hello. In the tutorial for the base coat, you said you used army painter dark sky. But the on screen graphic says “deep blue”. Which one was used?
Sorry for such a late reply! The correct Color is Dark Sky.
you are amazing you deserve more subscribers
Thank You! I’m about to revive the channel so hopefully that happens!
absolutely masterful. my dad taught me how to paint miniatures when I was little but I never got quite this good. I like seeing you use the Vallejo paints.
Are Vallejo your favourites? I really enjoy using them but I don’t have many
fantastic job!!! This was awesome to watch and learn from!
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed the video!
Well done, the pose is really dymamic, my only complaint about the"Legion" format is that they aren't compatible with all the others minis on the market (they're about 37mm vs.28/30), imagine the conversions' possibilities with the plastic Stargrave or Wargames Atlantic sets!
Yeah it would be nice if the sizes were more consistent. The joy of 3D printing is that if I want I can print the models at the relevant scale I want.
Hey there, first of all, great Video, but i have a question! If you dont mind. Im new to airbrush, so i dont seam to get such a clean surface with my primer than you do, could it be that my Needle is too small? I use 0.2mm so far. I would like to Prime my Clone, then do the rest. Also, any tipps how i can redo misstakes with the brush ? Paint over it with white or whipe it off befor it dries? IDK ^^ Help would be amazing <3
Hey! So sorry for such a late reply. You’ve probably already found the answer to your question by now but I thought I would respond anyway. Your needle size should be fine you just need to find the right balance in thinning your primer to go through the airbrush. Too little and you get spidering, too much and you get very transparent layers and pooling in the recesses. I use Vallejo Primer mixed with Flow Aid. Experiment with the ratio to find which is best for your airbrush. I hope this helps.
Mack a shinda grewal
Ooff, sorry to break the 66 comments... are you going do paint phase 2?
Hey sorry for such a late reply. I haven’t been in a position to do anything with TH-cam in over a year, but I will be reviving the channel soon. I would love to paint some more Clones!
@@TotallyNotAMimic yay welcome back!
You are amazing but i feel like im slacking... you said you have only been painting for a few months. You show amazing high quality painted droids. I have been painting for about 7 months and mine look bad. Ill try these when i get the phase 2 clones. All i have now are american and germans from warlord games bolt action wargame.
So sorry for the late reply! You are not slacking! Everyone progresses at their own pace. I did a ton of research and practice before putting these models on camera. You should have seen the first model I painted, man it was rough! How has your painting progressed?
@@TotallyNotAMimic Dont be sorry. I would say im quite a bit better. I painted 40 germans in a few hours and that was not good but I realized I needed to slow down and do one squad at a time.
For a first squad thats pretty impressive
Why thank you!
When you’re removing the nuln oil are you setting your brush each time you go back to the model to pull some off?
Sorry, what do you mean by setting?
@@TotallyNotAMimic sorry stupid auto correct. I meant wetting. Are you re-wetting it each time you wipe the nuln oil off? Btw I love your channel, you need wayyyy more subscribers!
@Harley Center Ah! That makes more sense! I don't wet the brush each time because you just want the brush to be damp not totally wet. So just keep an eye on it as you use it to keep it from getting too wet or too dry. And thank you! :)
Awesome, thank you so much!
Love the different green accent look - nice to see some cool variation on these droids
Love units with a little custom flair.
I find the use of gray primer over black primer fascinating. I might do that on one of my Grievous.
How did it turn out?
“I’m fairly new at painting” *demonstrates advanced knowledge and produces a masterpiece*
You're too kind! I would not say masterpiece but thank you!
@@TotallyNotAMimic still bloody good though. This is the tutorial I use for mine and even went out and bought the exact same paints you did to make sure I do it right. Even airbrush the primer on, same as you
Paint job is great and I enjoy your technique! I know the Phase I kits are older and that weird soft plastic, but gotta clean those mold lines. distracts from your awesome job. Just stumbled onto your video today while looking at some painting guides and will try your way on some of my 327th Star Corps.
I'm terribly awful when it comes to cleaning up my models, I get far too impatient to start painting. Also a lot of times I just miss lines haha
@@TotallyNotAMimic preaching to the choir here I'll rush some units so I can use em for the next game. Then I feel guilty afterwards.
Awesome video. When you detailed Spiderman with the black lines, did you apply a gloss coat first? or just paint right over the red acrylic paint?
I painted right over the red. Might have been smart to put down a coat first but I'm still learning myself.
This is my project for today. I hadn’t even thought of the whole magnetized head thing to remove the cape. Great idea! So where on earth did you find 1 mm x 1 mm magnets? The smallest I can find are 2x1
I was lucky enough to find some on Amazon. How did yours turn out?
@@TotallyNotAMimic ok except i forgot to do the whole trim his neck part out for the magnets. all the other magnets are fine. i've set him to the side for now and painted my other grievous instead. i'll get back to neck trimming later haa!
