I wish I could see what you’re doing because I’m a beginner so there’s no need for me to finish this
This style is right up my alley... it's a little chaotic & messy, it's not overly laborious, but the outcome appears very intricate & psychedelic. I never like putting hours & hours into one shirt, meticulously mapping, folding, & tying because it just ends up feeling more like work instead of being fun. The expectations get raised relative to the amount of time put in, so if the outcome isn't quite as expected, I'm not happy about my time spent. I always prefer doing something like a quick scrunch & ice dye; the expectation isn't nearly as high, so when there is a pleasant outcome, I get so much more joy out of it.
Do you have a dye application video?
This is great ! Also love the shirt you're wearing !!!
Cant wait to see what's next
That’s cool!
That’s amazing!

Heart warming
Jon-I am a huge fan. I’ve been dying for 20 years and have change my entire style because of you! I’d love to have a Jon Riley original if you’re ever feeling so inclined! I’d send you one of mine in return-just a thought. Huge fan! Huge tie dye crushin! Rad work!
What a fantastic idea, and it looked like a really good time! Also some of the greatest tie dye shirts I've ever seen. Where is this paradise where all the best tie dyers live?
Got a pic of the shirt you’re wearing in the video? I like the white space there.
My Chem water smells like ammonia and so does my DEF...can I still use it or should I get rid of it? Any way to change the PH?
Very cool
THE BEST AND MOST FUN SHIRTS I'VE EVER MADE ARE INFLUENCED BY THIS MANS ADVISE, LOOK AT THAT ABSOLUTELY AMAZING SHIRT HE'S WEARING 🤘🤪🤘
Very cool like the different weights of lines
Awesome - always been a fan of your work! Just wanted to thank you for spending so much time on these process videos and the time you spend helping folks on the various FB groups. I started my tie-die journey in the mid-80s, and getting tips or assistance was like pulling teeth ('ancient Chinese secret'). I understand and will vigorously defend any creator's wish to keep their processes secret, but I really like the openness of the community that's popped up the past few years. Hopefully, as I re-work my processes to adjust for the cage I now have in my spine - I'll be able to produce some helpful videos as well 😊
I'm impressed you tied that without a table.;-]
Omg your creations are amazing!! ❤
Thanks! Very nice shirt! I see some people do the soda ash application with hot water, I thought it set the dye instead of overnighting it. Is there a reason you prefer to use cold water? I'd like to know more about the way you use colors
Awesome work!! Absolutely amazing!! 😍😍
Thank you for sharing. Interesting as you are adding far more of the 3 ingredients than I've ever seen for Chem water. I understand the uses of those ingredients but I'd think that much thickener would cause the dyes to not saturate. Yet, obviously from your work, you're getting saturation. I will have to rethink my own recipe and experiment but on a smaller scale.
Beautiful 🤩 so cool. Your safety feature is such a sweet touch!
Excited to try it. Thanks ya
Thanks a lot for bein slicker n snot a lot. Ha. Super duper informative indeed.
Great video I get to see how people mix up their dye in other parts of the US. I add water and that’s it in northern cal😁✌️
👃🌹❤️💛💚 Another solid video Jon. You've helped me so much on this amazing journey into tie dye... You're very appreciated brother❤️⚡️💙
We're all bouncing around in the blur of life... I opt to harness the beautiful aspects of said blur, and push those energies back out into the world through tie dye. ❤️💛💚💫🎨🌞🙌
Rad!
What brand def, where do you get it Love your video
Super Tech DEF. Available at Walmart for ~$9, or ebay for double that.
Nice video. And love ur work. Tater one of my bros and turned me on to the therapy. Keep the videos coming.
Thanks man. Tater is a good dude.
Thanks for the video.. btw side note..your back splash is neat as hell..never seen that done like that . Gives me ideas now.
Glad you liked it!
I'm on the edge of my seat!
Slick editing 😂
Slicker n snot
Awesome
The shirt came out fantastic. I hope i can get to that level of tie dye one day. Awesome stuff man
The soda ash reminds me of getting a perm. The perm solution squirts on just like that. 😁
Beautiful shirt… did you use only fishing line to tie it?
Both sinew and fishing line
hi there awesomeness! where did you find your long nozzles on the dye bottles??
They're hair dye bottles from Sally beauty
Sorry for the dumb question but how do you add the soda ash after the dye is applied before you batch the shirt? I have only done the soda ash after when ice dying by using powder just before adding the ice. Do you use soda ash powder before batching?
Soda ash solution. You can mix it up and spray it over or you can just drop the piece in
You do this while it’s still tied? How long do I wait to untie and wash? Thanks for the videos, the vibe, and the positivity, brother!
Impressive curly mustache! Great tutorial! Thank you for sharing your technique! I subscribed!
Hey man, thanks so much for this tutorial... my only question is how are you able to get dye to absorb so readily when the shirt is so compressed and completely dry?? I've tried this a couple times now and am having to massage the dye into the fabric bit by bit or it just beads off. Do you use a surfactant in your dye?? Please help!!
It all in the Chem water. The calsoline oil specifically is responsible for the quick absorption and deep saturation.
Thank You 🙏 I’m so very GRATEFUL to You For Sharing Your Expertise 💜💙💚💛❤️💜💙💚
You’re very interesting to watch and then your results blow my mind. You’re different in a wonderful way. Don’t ever change.
Thank you very much, I have two of your shirts, definitely inspired me to start making tie dyes, Deer 🦌 Creek
Great video, hey I curious how soda ash causes the color to bind , when I’m doing natural dyes I notice it changes colors and basically sucks colors out of natural dye, do you know why? I’m so curious
I figured it out it changes the ph in water
Thank you, I love this style. Seeing it and creating it.
So what did you mean by batch like do you plop is in the oven ?
Thanks for the videos 🎉 you’ve open my tie dying possibilities! Can’t wait for more
