Go behind the scenes with Tristan Linton, one of Synchron's scoring engineers, as he shares how we worked with Academy Award-winning composer Volker Bertelmann on recording for Dune: Prophecy! Tristan also explains quite a bit on "American Seating" vs "German Seating" of the orchestra, and how that affects his work as a scoring engineer. #synchronstage #synchronstageorchestra #filmmusic #dunepr...

Love it how he summarized correctly; "the choice is yours". Bravo! 💯 It would be a privilege to own any one of these amazing instruments! ❤️
Gee……..do a piano comparison in Vienna and think……well do they want to promote the local? Hmmmm…..I wonder.
I've played all three of these pianos and they're all great, but I'm partial to the Steinway. Probably because my friend has a 1968 Model D in his studio and it sounds better than a new one, it aged well and has a magical sound. The action is lighter I assume because of its age and I just love playing it.
I also would like to hear a Fazioli please? BTW, the Yamaha that graces the Tchaikovsky Stage at the Moscow Conservatory is a very special hand made Yamaha...and no you cant buy one!
My opinion: Yamaha CFX, warmer Steinway D, more brilliant Bösendorfer, more powefull
barely a difference among them at that level.
It really all depends on what you need the piano for. If it's the Rach 3 with the Berlin Philharmonic: the Bösendorfer. But in this case, I would say: A) For the Liszt and Ravel: the Steinway is the WINNER! It sounded like glitter falling over a shimmering lagoon at sunset. It was stunningly gorgeous. B) For the Chopin: the Bösendorfer is the WINNER hands down. The sound literally expanded and floated. I though the Steinway would sing out a bit more. The Yamaha simply lacked gravitas.
Well the Bosendorfer is outstanding....but truly anyone who owns any one of these beautiful instruments is blessed.
Professional Musician, not a pianist… This is not very precise language, but each note on the Steinway sounds “narrower” in a sense. So when you crowd the texture, all the voices come through clearly, and articulations are very distinct, because somehow the sound of each note does not overlap as much. However, as a tradeoff, the notes are not so rich and in some passages can sound almost tinny in comparison. The Yamaha sound is recognizable immediately, and my first impression is how notable it is that the I can recall this basic tonal character in other Yamaha pianos I’ve encountered, even practice room uprights. The tone of this Yamaha is so developed and rich it is almost a detriment… it’s almost synthesizer-like, and the breadth of each tone to my ear creates a blanket of sound. In other words, it sounds like a single complex sound rather than the Steinway’s interplay of distinct voices. Despite this lack of clarity, the richness and homogeneity of sound is unmatched. The Bosendorfer lies between these extremes, though the presenter’s comment that the instrument presents a distinct bass versus treble voice is indeed what I hear. The clarity in the treble is more distinct than the Yamaha, but more sonorous than the Steinway. This video is one of the most excellent instrument tone comparisons I’ve seen. Thank you.
compared to the Bösendorfer, that Steinway sounds just barely okay.
Awesome!! I love playing low notes on contrabass clarinet!
And Kleidermann is good on Yamaha.
Liszt, Wagner or Bruck need Boesendorfer. Schubert and Beethoven for Steinway. The Yamaha is for something easy Mozart and kids :) Very good Video !!!!
Throw the Yamaha out the window.
All three are true works of art in themselves. I think the Steinway D is better for general purposes. I would choose (if I could) the Yamaha CFX for repertoire that requires more clarity of sound, and the Bösendorfer for repertoire that needs a darker, deeper sound.
Steinway Win! Second is Bosendorfer
Do you think that the playability affects the tone of the pieces played? Especially when played by the same performer on three different pianos.
Let's be hones. Everyone of the three grands is superb. And the question shouldn't be which one is "better", but wich one do lou like more. This is like a religious question. :-) The choice is your's. 🙂
Steinway 🎉
And to think, the Bosendorfer company is owned by Yamaha.
O wow. I prefer the Yamaha overall. Precise and pleasant to listen to. The Steinway is a close second. The Bösendorfer sounds like a big bombastic blabber and I didn't like it at all. can't distinguish the different notes as if every note just overpowers the next. In a big concert hall this will be even worse.
All the pianos sound beautiful in their own right. Preferring Steinway, I thought I was in heaven when I heard the bösendorfer. All in all I think one instrument would be preferred over the other depending on the composer and music being played
Baby, move the furniture. I ordered the Bösendorfer.
What a dream.
I lost an incisor, now I can wistle in stereo.
YMMV, but I always preferred the touch of the Bösendorfer. Steinways never felt right under my hands.
It's impossible to find fault with any of these pianos!
Almost no sound
1:33 A note double-strikes.
Steinway was so clean and tight
Bösendorfer es incomparable.
I played the Bosendorfer in Mendelssohn's house in Leipzig : perfect !
I was hoping to hear that spinet in the background.
If the choice is mine...Bosendorfer.

The Yamaha lacks resonance compared to the other two. The Steinway has perfect balance, the Bösendorfer definitely leans into the bass a bit.

Where are the best? Fazioli and Shiguru KAWAI😊
There is a special piano that is missing, the italian Fazioli…
You are going to want to put on your headphones or run this through speakers other than your laptop or phone to hear the significant differences, especially the Bösendorfer.
Fazioli.
while of course each brand has its own accross the board characteristics which are engrained in its DNA , each piano has its own individual character. So its really a matter of trying out each piano and listening to its own voice. And from personal experience, its possible to be more satisfied with a 30000$ yamaha than a 450000$ Bosendorfer. And of course regulation of the action plays a huge role in the experience. It goes right down to psychoacoustics.....
