In a separate issue, when I'm running my GoPro Hero 8 from and extremal battery with the internal battery removed, it will only record about 2 seconds of video then the screen goes black for a couple of seconds. Then I get a message "File Repaired". Do you know what causes this? I'd like to be able to record for an extended length of time without changing batteries. It records just fine when I have the internal battery installed though. Thanks!

Hi Josh, Nice sharing! you are one of The few who is sharing experience with combo “skiing and drone”. I only recently bumped in to your clip, and this was after I recently used my First drone for The same purpose (skiing + self recording via drone). I did use a DJI mini 3 pro (recording on my channel): there are still some obstacles as you mentionned but The NEW drones did inprove (and I hope they will improve more) for active tracking while skiing. I'd completely forgotten about Virtual Dub, the name sounds like its audio software. I've worked in animation for decades and never used it but OMG this looks super useful for converting footage to frames and vice versa - thanks! :D

curiously, the fingerprints seem To me better with S20FE; I stopped using them with my S8... Lets see if I'll be having them in 2023🤔

Here I am in '22, STILL using my S8 and it finally bit the dust (loved it all the way to the grave)! One last fall from less than 2'. Se la vie. Shopped around and was looking at the S20 FE as a low cost replacement. Super happy this vid was out here. VERY USEFUL! Thank you!!

I still have the S8 which I love but now have screen burn. Was looking up the S20 fe camera compare.

I also have an S8, but I believe that it is waterproof and the screen does not come on after soaking it in water for a long time. Oh man, I changed my phone to S20FE. It cost 400,000 won to repair the S8 at the service center. I don't repair it.

thx for posting this. My wife had been using the S8+ for 3 years and has just got the S20Fe as its substitute. Her main concern about that deal was the camera, since it was the reason why she had chosen the S8 (it takes amazing pics of eyes structures during eye surgeries). After using the new device for a few days, she became a little suspicious about the quality of the S20 FE's job in that area. Your video proves there is no loss of quality, though. Nice video, pleasantly put together. My s8 is still going strong and trust me, it has a tough life. No way l'm dropping +500 pounds (if not 1000!) to get slight better performance here and there. YMMV.

Not recording in 4k, 2.7k,1080p saves battery...not recording at all would save battery even more

Can I leave my battery inside the gopro without use for a long period? (@ 100%) should i drain the battery to 50% and keep it in the gopro?

Let me ask you. If I wore the camera on a 'chesty' can you just use in 360 mode so you can record in higher quality like 4 or 5k? Like a GoPro (straight ahead)? I see that the video resolution is only: Wide Angle (Steady Cam Mode): 2560x1440@50fps, 30fps. That's not true 4K. Thanks!

Great advise however people buy these cameras to shoot in 4K, so using 1080p just to say battery life, is like buying a Ferrari and driving it slow ?

I started up my GoPro 8 to adjust some settings, my battery was at about 50% after five minutes of making a preset my battery was down to 13%. When I record my bike rides I’m now using an external battery pack because I feel I can’t trust the GoPro batteries
