Sketchbooks - Do you sketch regularly?
I do sketch fairly regularly, and fill up several each year, and have over thirty of them in my studio.
They are valuable reminders of places and people and often contain sufficient details to use as references for later paintings.
They are not usually exhibited, as they contain many scribbles and scratchings, which are unfinished.
A sketchbook is the place to experiment and explore, to keep quick tonal studies and write notes.
This is just one of mine. Enjoy it and I hope you decide to start sketching. It is the most fun you can have with a pencil or pen, and costs almost nothing.

This is a walk around my 2021 solo exhibition at York Street Gallery, Ramsgate. There were 50 framed paintings on the walls, mostly oils painted 'en plein air' in nature, which is how I prefer to work.
