464: Ben Locke | In Our Suffering, Lord Be Near
On today's PoM Podcast I sat down and spoke with Ben Locke, the author of "In Our Suffering, Lord Be Near: Prayers of Hope for the Hurting."
Hardship and adversity touch everyone--illness, grief, accidents, trauma, loneliness, relationship struggles, financial crises, sin, addiction, life stressors, and so much more can leave you feeling lost, hopeless, and isolated.
You are not alone. When author Ben Locke was in his darkest valleys, he was determined to tell God exactly what he thought. He poured out his agony and anger--and was met with God's grace, love, forgiveness, and mercy. He discovered in those moments that God can handle it. All of it. And the prayers that poured out Ben's experience offer a road map for you to take your sorrows, grief, and troubles to God, knowing He will meet you in your time of suffering.

On today's PoM Podcast we talk about what causes us to aimlessly go through life and resolving to have no more wasted days. Often we are aimless because we lack direction. I some what agree with the message, but I would have a hard time agreeing with your point of view. You may think that you will be judged on the collective of men, but I think I will be judged on the actions of myself. There is sexual degeneration all over the place. It is not my duty walk around correcting it, but to live my life in a way that glorifies god. You seem to be judging men the way a feminist does because someone looked at your daughter. The message us unauthentic, as much as I wanted to hear it.

    AMEN!!!!!!! As a fellow 48yr man, I agree with you about these times and seasons we live in. Society and the church have a lot to clean up in the moral character department. I was guided by The Spirit to Job31 several years ago and made the commitment to clean up a lot in my personal life including foul language, which is hard being an auto mechanic! Thank You for having the courage to speak a message like this, we need more men like you to call out bad behavior to truly transform the USA to a better moral righteous nation, that the Puritans tried to establish. Thank You!

    You said if the gospel doesn’t make it to your home that is a big failure. My question is how do I bring the gospel into my home with an unbelieving wife? I’m recently a saved new Christian and she is a non believer. I do ask her to pray with me for meals and she politely refuses. What am I supposed to do? Thanks.

    • @pursuemanliness
      @pursuemanliness หลายเดือนก่อน

      Excellent question and as you know there is no easy answer except she is going to learn from watching and living with you what Christianity is all about. She may not want to pray with you now, but perhaps in time might see some genuine lasting changes in you that might make her more open to consider why that is. We have a number of men in Tribe who are in a similar situation and can attest it can be a challenge but if they come to Jesus it is worth it.

      You are the head of the home. You set the direction. You set the tone for your entire home. It is your job to lead in such a way that it is clear that Christ is supreme and His Word is sufficient. Those that you are trying to lovingly lead may not agree with that mission, BUT they still need to SEE you model it. Strive to be a leader worthy of following. Pray for your family everyday. Trust God to bless. Read Psalm 127 & Titus 1:6-9 frequently. Find a church with Godly, strong men whos commitment to Gods Word, their families, and the church you admire. Work hard.

    • @smokingcrab2290

      @ericfehrman, doesn't work. It doesn't always depend on you. You could be doing everything right and she'll still fight. She has sin and needs repentance too. She has personal responsibility too. Stop being one of those guys who says bullshit like "be a leader worthy of following". Because all that means is "play into the woman's game in order to change her behavior" which is nothing but a fools errand.

    • @ericfehrman
      @ericfehrman 29 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@smokingcrab2290 Leadership in the home isnt some alternate kind of unique leadership different from every other sphere. If you hired a high dollar executive to run your company or Urban Meyer to coach your football team... would you accept "hey, it doesnt all depend on me... the employees/players are sinners too... they have responsibility too... its bullshit to think I need to be a leader worthy of following". You'd fire that guy in 10 minutes. OF COURSE your wife and children have responsibilities too - recognizing that is the foundation of what leadership IS - discipling your wife and children to grow into who they were made to be. Dont play the "its not my fault game"... every Christian man is in the "its may not be my fault but it IS my responsibility" game. Take responsibility for your home and get to work.

    This is probably going to sound stupid or crazy but I think God just sent me a message through you. I'm 44 and homeless and have been for decades at this point. I've been in Ashland KY for 7 years last month camped out just outside of town beside the train tracks. I've never believed in God or Jesus until just the past couple weeks because... okay this is where I'm going to sound like I'm crazy or on drugs or something but I swear I'm not.... there has been too many coincidences happening to me lately that it can't be just that. I'll be sitting outside next to the salvation army charging up my phone and batteries, I almost always stay to myself and don't really talk to the other homeless people because of the drugs and violence and mental problems so many have,that it's just safer for me that way, and someone will come along and start talking about things that I've been thinking about for days without me saying anything about it to them and it will be something that is so personal that I don't feel comfortable sharing it on here but it has hit me so hard. I've been wondering if I have a demon inside me and this person told me that he thinks he has one inside of him and I've never spoken that out loud with anyone.... there's many many more times that this has happened the past month and I've started noticing...things? I don't really know how to put into words and just rereading what I've already wrote looks nuts. I've been trying to make a hard decision the last couple days because I have a bad feeling and I've prayed about what I should do and your video popped up in my feed. I've been estranged, if that's the correct word, from my biological mother for years because I became homeless in 95 when I was 15 because she threw me away after telling me that she was my biological mother and that Mom and dad where actually her adopted parents and that she had me when she was only 15 and they adopted me and raised me as their own and told me that she was my sister, well dad had a serious stroke in 92 and mom got cancer and died in 93 and I went to live with her in Coshocton Ohio and then she told me everything in 95 and it broke me and I've never got my life together after that. I lived under the bridge there for 3years.I started watching your video and within a minute of starting it I hear Coshocton Ohio and who the heck knows about that town, it's so small that it's also the name of the county surrounded by corn and bean fields. This is the kind of thing that keeps popping up and if it's just a coincidence, it sure is freaking me out. I'm not saved and I don't think I can be at this point in life but I will ask you to please pray for me because I'm alone and afraid and not sure how to get out of this mess that I've created in my life... Thank you brother I just finished watching your video and now I'm even more freaked out. This is real isn't it...
