Hello Everyone! We are moving on with our Beatles Albums variation retrospective, interestingly enough almost 1 year to the day since we released the unboxing of the CD Deluxe boxset of Revolver on this channel (a link to which you can find below). And because we are (sort of) celebrating that 1 year anniversary, today we share with you episode 7 of our Beatles Albums series covering their 7th ...

Hello Everyone! Well, it's been a minute. We're back with the 6th installment of our Beatles Albums series, and we're looking at their second album from 1965 and my absolute favorite album of all time: Rubber Soul! This is an all around awesome album, one where the US version managed to be a strong record but where I still feel like the original UK track listing is unbeatable. Plenty of variati...

Hello Everyone! Normally this would have been a video dedicated to Rubber Soul. Unfortunately, a couple of days before I was supposed to start working on it, I broke my foot, and now I am mostly immobilized, and will continue to be so for at least a couple of weeks. However I had managed to capture on video a few more unboxings of really nice and out-of-print items, some of which are between 20...

Hello everyone. We're on to the 4th episode of this series on The Beatles Albums variations, today with their 4th studio album: Beatles for Sale. Good choices,no doubt I love Amy Winehouse's voice Nirvana I never cared for much cheers
Thank you. Now to be honest, not all the choices in my list are among my absolute favourites, but I did want to reflect wider preferences. Amy was exceptional though.
Nice list. Of course mine would be different. I'd pick "Abbey Road" over "Revolver" because Abbey Road contains the most streamed songs of the Beatles: "Here Comes the Sun" and "Something". I'd also prefer "Led Zeppelin IV" over "Physical Graffiti" because it contains the most popular song of LZ: "Stairway to Heaven" (and all the other tracks are also great). Also personally I'd skip Michael Jackson completely for something by The Police, Queen, Dire Straits or R.E.M. because I never liked Michael Jackson. So my pick would probably be "Automatic for the People".
Well Stefan... cannot say no to any of that. I also could have used LZ IV just as easily and same with Abbey Road. And as you saw I definitely started with Queen in mind, but then I thought that for the 1st one I would try to mirror some of the most generally well regarded ones. Physical Graffiti though was my choice.
shit list.
Yey, the first hate comment, cool!!!
I would like to see your list, pal
Nice shirt.
Thank you! 😁
Great list. Yours and mine overlap only slightly, with those titles being Pet Sounds and Revolver (and possibly Dark Side...). I'd have chosen Led Zeppelin IV because there are no low spots. And I'd have to have a 1950s Sinatra Capitol album on there, as he pretty much created the "concept album" concept. I'd also include The Moody Blues' "Days of Future Passed" and Jethro Tull's "Thick as a Brick." The thing is, there are easily over a hundred albums that could make the list, and quite a few of them would belong to The Beatles. All in all, it's a solid list you have there and you explained your choices perfectly!
Thank you, and thanks for the suggestions btw. Zeppelin IV is for sure making the next list and you've reminded me I need some Sinatra fix tonight.
Everyone seems to have an opinion on what they believe to be the best. I disagree with pretty much all only truly like less than 5% . Those who make these videos usually wanna fit in with the majority who are brainwashed at some point in life to follow the masses. Kinda like a lemming.
To be honest after checking a lot... and I mean A LOT of these lists I tend to agree with you that I also disagree with a majority of them. But I guess that's the beauty of it. Taste is rarely debatable. I for one would have had 4 Beatles albums at least in my list. But that is just me.
@BurgundySkies the Beatles are OK. Maybe 2 but it's all each opinion
100%
@@BurgundySkies that's why it's fine to just list 10, 20 of ones favorites. When someone starts saying the 'greatest ever..the best in all history..blah...blah... people tend to not like that since they have their own opinions
Ah well, you can't please everyone. But this (as well as most social media) being a public forum of sorts, that is literally what it's for: opinions and debates. When it comes to album rankings... I mean... even Rolling Stone switches it up every few years.
I decided to mirror your selections in terms of having one album from the '50s, two albums from the '60s, three albums from the '70s, two from the '80s, and one each from the '90s and '00s. 1950s: Here's Little Richard -Little Richard 1960s: Are You Experienced -The Jimi Hendrix Experience Abbey Road -The Beatles 1970s: Led Zeppelin III -Led Zeppelin Countdown to Ecstacy -Steely Dan Innervisions -Stevie Wonder 1980s: War -U2 Purple Rain -Prince 1990s: Kiko -Los Lobos 2000s: Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots -Flaming Lips
Uuuhhh very interesting selections. Nice! I will steal some of those.
Also, nice username there! 😁😁😁
Is it just me, or does the Beatles in mono sound bad on headphones, but great on speakers? I read that mono on headphones can sound like the music is coming from inside-your-head, and without spatial separation it can sound dull. I wondered if maybe I purchased a fake box set because the audio sounded bad, but I watched the videos on how to tell the difference between fakes and real ones, and I appear to have the real CD mono box set. One thing to try on computer speakers is to pan the sound to the right channel to avoid sound wave interference.
It is not just you, but it depends on the system and headphones a little bit as well. But I can say this: First time I listened to the Mono CD box, on a small but new and decent system with Marshall Headphones most of them sounded nice enough, but of course stereo has a bit more clarity cause of the separation. When I moved to Audio Technica headphones, there was a very slight improvement. But when I moved to an older system, the sound on headphones became slightly more uhmmm... distant... if that makes sense.
Thank you for this! I was looking for unboxings about the Anthology book 👀
With pleasure!!! Thank you for being here.
2 things missing that would could have been a perfect collection, is a mono mix album not just the blu-ray, and singles of Lady Madonna, The Inner Light, Hey Jude,Revolution and Across the Universe (wildlife version) in stereo and mono.
Absolutely on point with this. After a year since getting these I came to understand what the best version of each would have been, and all those that came in Mono (like this one or Sgt Pepper etc) having both original Mono mix beside the new Stereo and the bluray would have been perfect (both for CD and Vinyl versions).
Has anyone done any Blu Ray bootlegs of the cleaned up ‘Let It Be’ film that was shown on Disney channel this year?
I am sure they have. At least for Beatles 64 I saw some on FB groups, no reason why Let it Be wasn't touched as well.
@@BurgundySkies 🤔Hmm, I would have thought so to, but alas I can’t seem to find any 😞
Well your wish was answered bootleg wise. Check ebay! 😁😁😁
@@BurgundySkies Nice One 👍🏻…Many Thanks 🙏
it looks like they took better care of the mono set than the stereo set.
They did, yes.
Here in UK I saw that album for £36 talk about a rip off, time somthing was done about the prices. As much as I want this I will not pay that much for an LP.
I agree. I only got it because I found it in Germany at a few Euro below the standard price for the others.
Magical Mystery Tour is the best LP
It is their best idea for sure (Capitol I mean).
I bought Meet the Beatles the first day it was out - the Target exclusive. It sounded a bit distorted, but I wrote that off to how the masters sounded before pressing. Dexter figured that bigger, louder, and even faster were the only things American teenagers would respond to, so be it. I loved the heavily amplified drums, particularly on Devil in Her Heart and I Saw Her Standing There. The other day I picked up The Beatles Second Album, the songs on which are a blast under Capitolization. She Loves You has never sounded sweeter. From the time I heard about this, I knew I didn't want to pay $300, so I had the idea to go off to some record shows in my area and see what original Capitols I could pick up. I ended up with a perfect looking and sounding copy of Beatles '65, my favorite among these FIVE records. Now this leads to my pet peeve about the ad campaign, "Replicas of Seven Original Mono US Album Releases". No, dude, there are only 5 (FIVE) LPs and whatever THE BEATLES STORY is. First off, it's a double album, meaning there are SIX titles. Most people would open the box, see 5 proper albums, and recoil WHAT IS THIS when it comes to the Beatles Story.
Totally agree. I do think it's a good idea to address the US catalogue now and again, cause it was such a critical part of their success, but on the other hand... just make it less cash grabby.
@@BurgundySkies After Target for "Meet", I stumbled upon an independent record shop in my area - run by someone who was a teenager in the 70s, and he had all the invididual albums in stock. I piked up the "Second Album" over there. The last one I need of those albums is "Something New". I never cared for "The Early Beatles" because we'd already had "Introducing the Beatles, and Misery and There's a Place were included. "Early" is even worse than some complained "Introducing" was. I have a stereo and mono reissue of Please Please Me in the super-old Parlophone label design, so I'm golden. I agree about making it less cash grabby. I expected the prices to be high for each one, just not THAT high.
So... did you get them? How do you feel about them?
IMO, in terms of better listening experience, you will want the mono version, but if you want the complete package (e.g. Yellow Submarine, Abbey Road, and Let It Be) and even the mini documentaries, you will want the stereo box set.
Indeed that would still be the way to go on CD if you can only get one. Although I guess lately one can consider buying the stereo albums separately if they want to get the newer mixes for the 5 albums that have them.
With The Beatles, I listen to their songs on how it was originally mastered and released publicly. If a mix originally in mono that’s remixed in stereo is done well (not counting 2009 remixes where vocals exist to the right and other instruments to the left), I’d go for them. For most of their mixes, I go for mono. If there was one recorded and released in true stereo, I listen to them. Doesn’t work for me if they’re mixed down to mono.
For Mono despite some not so good old mixes, I would stick with their original ones, they were made as they ans GM wanted them. For Stereo... the post 2017 mixes are preferable in most cases for me.
I was able to grab a sealed copy of Naked for $100. Nice find but I still am not crazy about this album. Sterile sound and edited takes...Still absolutely love the original. One of my top 5 albums. Nice finds by the way!
Wow. That is a good price!!! Congrats. I would say it is a good alternative to the Spector mix, at least for some songs. I agree about the edited takes, the chatter is what makes it extra special and is more appropriate for the atmosphere in which it was recorded.
The hard days night album in white the colour represents the 60th anniversary it’s called silver white
Is it? Don't think I saw anywhere that it's called silver white. It was clear that they were marking the 60th anniversary, but the choice of color does not seem to have a specific point to me.
The Canadian 1st album Twist and shout is great, Long tall Sally (which has the same cover as the US 2nd album)and Beatlemania, with the Beatles has the same front cover as the UK With the Beatles and the US Meet the Beatles. We also had the singles on Capitol while the US had them on Veejay, Tollie and Swan. We also had the German language she loves you 45 on Capitol at the same time as the English version . That is a sleeper rarity in great shape
The Beatlemania With The Beatles is said to be the best sounding version of it, kinda expensive though to find in NM state.
@@BurgundySkies the Canadian Capitol albums were thick and had glossy rainbow labels, not flat like in the United States
@@BurgundySkies our Canadian only Capitol records also had the Yardbirds the hollies the Dave Clark 5 the first animals album and singles Gerry and the pacemakers Billy j. Kramer and the Dakota's Freddie and the dreamers Sid's pink Floyd the swinging blue jeans Georgie Fame and the blue flames, the sunrays and many more. Some of those groups were on epic records and tower records in the United States. The Canadian Capitol only albums are called the 6000 series which are the catalogue numbers 6000 and up. The 45s are the 70,000 series
I guess some of those would be harder to find nowadays in excellent condition.
@@BurgundySkies yeah yeah yeah, your right . In 1991 my monster music collection was estimated at about 80 thousand, and Sadly, it was stolen by a family member who sold it to a record store for 600 dollars in order to buy drugs. I've picked up a few Beatles since then and my daughter has given me every Beatles box set CD and vinyl except let it be and revolver , because they now included the book with the vinyl. I didn't want the Red and blue box and I told her not to get this year's mono set because it doesn't make sense to pay over 100 dollars extra for a cardboard box and the Beatles story ( l lost the copy that I bought in the early seventies, when my collection was stolen) But I know for a fact that I'm getting Wings one hand clapping and Meet the Beatles on Blue vinyl. I've also thrown out some feelers to her for a vinyl Elliot Smith album that I'm missing and any Nick Drake vinyl. Both would be reissues because originals can empty a wallet and the Nick Drake could take a good portion of a bank account
She's a woman kick's ass on the Dave Dexter versions
That's cool. I'll see (in time) if I can compare. Wonder if the CD version would be a fair comparisson.
@@BurgundySkies is this box available in CD form? If not, that would be a first. I haven't seen any 64 mono CD box set unboxing video's
Not this one specifically but the albums themselves both in Mono and Stereo were released twice (once as part of the Beatles Capitol Albums volumes 1 and 2 in 2024-2006, and then - although using the 2009 remasters as source) in 2014 as part of the Beatles US Albums boxset.
To my ears, the original uk mono (us mmt) pressings win over the 2014 all but rubber soul. They made that 2014 rubber soul very very well.
Indeed. That one I do have in the 2014 version.
@@josiahmitchell4055 just last night I played the stereo 50th anniversary Sgt Pepper reprise on side 2 and was pleased to hear Paul's previously hidden vocals from the mono only version
THIS! I thought I was the only one who was hearing him be muffled during A Day in the Life, and with the 2017 new mix finally his vocal has been liberated.
This black-band Sergeant was released in 1982 and contains the inner groove. The 1986 release has a red band and the sound quality seems to have improved. However, the red band version does not contain the inner groove. This series is expensive even in Japan. The 2014 box set is also quite expensive! Aim to complete your collection.
Thank you, I am. And yeah, I was gonna mention the absence on the inner groove sound loop in the Sgt Peper episode that will follow sometime soon. I think it is the only version of Sgt Pepper I have had so dar that did not have it.
How much is the new box gonna cost?
300 bucks
@@BurgundySkies $38.00 per record? I'll take my chances on finding originals at Jerry's for about $5.00 a piece.
Well technically speaking each main record is 30 dollars (standard price). If you multiply 30 by 6 (which is the no. of the albums) you get 180 dollars. Then you are basically paying 120 bucks for The Beatles Story and the box.
@@BurgundySkies The ad says 8 records.
Yes, it's cause of the Beatles Story which is 2 discs. Not really an album though (at least not to me).
The Hard Day's Night white vinyl was for National Album Day, not Record Store Day. NAD is a UK-only event that usually has 20 or so releases on coloured vinyl that are specific to UK retailers, while Record Store Day has two yearly release days internationally, the first in April and the second on Black Friday. RSD releases not only coloured vinyl editions but also rare reissues, and RSD only releases that are not available after that day. The Japanese mono reissues on red vinyl were not from the original master tapes but from second generation mix down tapes. They are very nice, quiet pressings. Keep up the videos and collecting!
Thank you... x3. Regarding the Japanese Red Mono collections a corrected way to put it (according to Discogs) would be that they were pressed using the UK mono masters.
@BurgundySkies Discogs unfortunately isn't always correct. They let users amend the information without having any factual information to back it up. The Japanese were given second generation mix downs. EMI almost never sends their masters out to any other territory, and especially not the Beatles. Germany has has new mix down masters made on occasion, which is why the Magical Mystery Tour LP from there was the only true stereo LP up until the mid 90s. Japanese LPS were originally pressed from the US masters, which in some cases were even third generation tapes. In the late 70s and early 80s Japan upgraded their masters with second generation tapes, which are duplicates from the original EMI UK mix down masters, and that's when their sound quality really went up. Japan also used virgin vinyl and the red wax editions used the Everclean vinyl, a high end vinyl which I believe was exclusive to Japan, so the sound quality really improved with Japanese pressings at a time every other territory was starting to use lower quality vinyl. Keep up the good work!
Thank you very much. Indeed it did seem a bit out of character of Apple or EMI to ship original master tapes all the way over to Japan, but I must admit I did not think much of it, those being the 80s I just assumed maybe they hadn't yet realised how extra careful they had to be with these. Was also thinking about how they had lost/damaged some of the earlier tapes as well, so... Anyway... I hope to have a chance to compare the sound of these Japanese beauties with some of the 2014 ones. The one comparisson I managed to already make, but will not have a chance to repeat is between a 1969 UK Mono export pressing of Sgt Pepper's and the Japanese one I got. It's true the Japanese one was cleaner (as expected I guess), but overall I did not feel like the 69 UK one was significantly better. Obviously this is very subjective but... there it is. Thanks again for being here and for the clarifications. As a very green collector... this world is a thick and tricky jungle.
Birth of the Beatles was an early biopic film which deserves an honourable mention. All Beatles related biopic films are spoiled by physical miscasting of the band members, screwing up the music, or making alterations to history. Sometimes music licensing problems have been the issue. The point of John and Paul, being mirror images of each other at the mic would obviously not be helped by having a shorter John. Given the reviews I will give this one a wider berth.
Yeah most films were either poorly cast or with low production value, or were suffering from quick cash grab syndrome. Birth of the Beatles was the Pete Best leaning one, no? PS: "wider berth" - nice, I'm gonna use that.
I am in the US and remember the US album versions, But I have no interest in this set either. I am just going to get Meet The Beatles. Once I got to hear the UK versions, I never went back.
It’s not the U.S. configurations I dislike, it’s the sound quality. Some big wig at Capitol decided he could do a better job than George Martin at mixing their records. I’m so glad the U.S. Albums box set fixed those problems by not including the Re channeled versions of the singles. By including both mono and stereo mixes, they gave us the choice of which tracks we can put in the playlist. Deirdre also remixed Please Please Me, With the Beatles and the non album singles and B-Sides in super three dimensional stereo. And if that isn’t enough, another company remixed Rubber Soul, so we’re good to go. I also might add that the latest Deirdre remixes include the film edit version of I’ll Cry Instead in stereo (this is the one where the first verse is repeated after the third verse); the U.S. Rarities version of I Am the Walrus with the deleted extra bar of music just before the yellow matter custard verse and a new stereo mix of I’m Only Sleeping with all guitar solo placements in tact. Life is good.
I for one started with UK variations back in the 90s, so I guess it would be even harder for me to gravitate to the US albums. And the sound differences are a turn off for me as well, but I do have to admit that a couple of those US compilation albums are well built in terms of tracklistings. Meet the Beatles is one of them.
I personally think that they made "A Hard Day's Night" the album for the album day FIRST then realized that it was it's 60th anniversary so they gave it that treatment in the description which is probably why it uses the 2009 remasters
It is very probable. It's just... nowadays they could do so much better!
Enough
...is enough
That is a great point about the 2014 1962-1966 Red & 1967-1970 Blue albums as their mixed directly from the original master tapes. They are readily available and a great way to start an analog Beatles collection.
Not so readily available anymore as of last year. I mean they are not rare. But will be less and less available new as they get replaced by the 2023 editions.
The intro sounds great! 🎶
I agree, god bless the musicians who made it.
@@Cozonac3000 they shoul release a while vinyl 45 of Help, with the intro for the sixtieth anniversary of movie along with a white vinyl LP
1:05, Yellow Submarine was released in the US earlier than in the UK. 13 January 1969 in the US and four days later 17 January 69 in the UK. ps, Thank you for your videos , they are great for us Beatles fans.
Thank you for being here and for the corrections, they are welcomed.
Moreover, I just realized a couple more mistakes I've made. One was an editing error I seem to have missed, where I made an edit that cut a few seconds off a sentence. Another one is saying that Across the Universe was mainly released in Stereo as part of Abbey Road. Obviously it was mainly stereo but on Let it Be, as well as the Noone'a gonna change our world charity compilation
A very thoughtful review of this film. I agree with the vast majority of points you make regarding casting, pacing and, most importantly, the superficiality of the story telling; Brian Epstein is a very important part of The Beatles' remarkable story but they did not capture his complexity and he deserves better. Oh, and yes, the Tex character was awful in both concept and delivery.
Thank you. It does seem like at the origins there was an intent to make justice to the character, but there is also an apparent difference between intent and result.
@BurgundySkies I agree. The film really speeds up the pace (to it's detriment) in the second half and makes use of much more exposition, presumably because of budgetary constraints.
It’s pronounced Epstine
You are absolutely right. I fell in the trap of the americanization of the name I think. The whole movie did as well.
Not a great movie. The cast wasn't completely terrible, even the actor playing Lennon wasn't entirely bad, though this missed his external edge and dominance, I loved the guy that played George, the Paul actor was alright, the Ringo actor didn't look so much like hime but did a Fair job at playing him. Jay Leno as Sullivan was horrible. The guy playing George Martin wasn't bad. Some of the set recreations were really good... The all you need is love staging looked amazing.... But you can't do a Beatles movie without a single Beatles song. It's not really that compelling of a story without the Ed Sullivan performance or really any post Sullivan performances... You didn't get the sense that Brian was a strong business man in the movie. A story focused on Brian's closeted homosexuality doesn't really go anywhere because it was always in the closet... Which is how it was but there's nowhere for that story line to go because culture didn't change, acceptance didn't change, the overdose wasn't sinister, a lot of people topped themselves off to a similar fate in the late 60s... Easily my least favorite Beatles biopic.... But Leo Harvey-Elledge as George Harrison was good
I agree with all your points. I think the Lennon actor (despite being good and clearly trying to give a good performance) was just not equipped to relay the dimension of John's personality. My view is that it's similar to the situation of Ramy Malek in Bohemian Rhapsody. Awesome actor, totally involved and strong performance, but not able to relay the force and larger than life dimension of the character.
😂😂😂😂 tiny Lennon (the budget was so small they got a 30% discount on the actor 😂😂😂)
lol, he seems like a good actor though, just a bit out of place given the very engrained image of the band
A pair of lifts would've helped.
Hello the mark at the side of your 76 hdn is the laminated sleeve I have them all they are all the same 👍
Thank you.
So it’s pretty obvious you have absolutely zero original opinions or tastes. Also way to block me, can’t handle being called out for the ignorant prick you are? You don’t know what alternative is, you don’t know how to read -that woman was 22, not a teenager- you think other people are following a “herd mentality” when again you most definitely have zero original opinions on anything. I can’t imagine just how lovely you really are, you’re most likely a misogynist too. Honestly I can’t comprehend how someone so incredibly basic is able to claim someone else is following the herd. You’re clearly obsessed with being labeled as an individual, but let me tell you buddy, you’re just a brick crammed into a wall who’s paint has faded and become dull, that’s all that makes you stand out
I bought the red and blue CD very happy with his song they added specially the blue✌🏽😃
Yes, most of the additions were absolutely the right choices. Enjoy your CDs!
3:00 I don't think Pepper is any longer considered the Greatest of All Time beatles album. At the time it blew everybody's minds.. but now we can look back on what came before it, and what came after it. I would say before it: Rubber Soul and Revolver are now contenders. And after it, White Album and Abbey Road. And me personally, I think Mystery Tour is a better album. Pepper just blew everyone's minds at the time because it was so different. I think it's now taken at least a 4th place on what we now know. White Album and Abbey Road are the best. Revolver and Rubber Soul are right there. Magical Mystery tour is still highly underrated and I would argue it's the better album over Pepper.
Right on, I was looking over articles and rankings done by Rolling Stone and other publications over time and it's interesting to see how this shifted.
Just a couple of minor points. Firstly the US Revolver is not the same track listing as the UK album, so apart from the title and the cover it's different- a couple of songs even have different mixes.. It was also released three days after the UK Revolver, on Monday August 8th, 1966.And lastly the compilation released in late 1966 was titled " A Collection of Beatle's Oldies" not " A Collection of Oldies".
Yes, I think I mentioned the differences in track listings, but indeed not the dif. mixes. Thanks!
Thank you for a great video. It’s strange for me I don’t like the stereo remix, yes they fixed problems but it doesn’t sound like revolver anymore it’s to tame, this is the worst giles remix. The original stereo has its own sound and that was the sound of revolver
It's super interesting how diametrically opposed opinions on these albums can be, but this only means one thing: the music is timeless!
Meh, don't know about that. The clarity and dynamics are superb with the Giles mix IMHO.
Although I don't have any original pressings of Revolver, I do have all the others in mono & stereo in both CD & vinyl LP. To my very subjective ears and stereo equipment, the 2022 Giles Martin versions of both the mono (which beats out even the 2014 vinyl) and the 2022 stereo is the overall best sounding.
I can't help but agree. Proof that tech can be used to great effect even on 60 years old recordings.
@@BurgundySkies Enjoy your presentations. I can't wait until your Sgt. Pepper analysis.
Thank you very very much. I really appreciate it. The Sgt Pepper episode will come in the following weeks.
If your White Album is Dutch on all 4 sides, you have a great sounding pressing.
Uffff, it is not here anymore as it will become apparent soon. I have to say though, as much as I listened to it, it was pretty nice. I will dig the matrixes, I know I had written them down at the time. As I (vaguely) recall... I think I had a mix, where 3 sides were from a version and 1 side from another. But not 100% sure, will double check.
So these apparently were the matrixes I had for The White Album: Matrix / Runout (LP09 Side A (etched)): YEX 709 //36405-1-Y 08-21652-1A-1 ⦸ A E Matrix / Runout (LP09 Side B (stamped)): YEX 710 138-04 173-B--36408-4Y Matrix / Runout (LP09 Side C): 04 174 A-1 (stamped) U (etched) Matrix / Runout (LP09 Side D (stamped)): YEX-712//43028-1Y B 08_21653_1B_1
WMGGW better than Dear Prudence, Yer Blues, Helter Skelter? You're right, The Beatles is not the album for you but it is for me - their best IMO.
I mean it's all a matter of personal preference. To be honest thought, my view on this album has shifted a bit since last year. So...
@@BurgundySkies I understand it is a matter of taste. Hopefully as your view shifts you will see the marvelous eclectic and hap hazard track listing as a work of art - whether It was intended that way or The Beatles just got lucky. In '68 it was not reviewed well but over the years more have come to appreciate it and I think among big fans like myself it ranks up there with Abbey Road for the most fans. Who'd a thunk it way back when. lol
At a certain point I will attempt to do a personal ranking. I tried to put one on paper a year ago, and then again a couple of months ago. They look kinda different. I do appreciate the unique build of this album, albeit one of the reasons for it being quite so eclectic is also their need to push put as many tracks as possible to get them out of their previous engagements. But beside that... when I will do my ranking there will be a couple of things that will influence my choices: 1. How many songs of each album I like (percentage wise)? 2. Does the track sound pleasant to me? Beyond this there dozens of other reasons, many of which very specific or personal, but those above are my main.

...and this is not
I got a sealed copy last week for 120€ on ebay. I was afraid that it would be fake, but fortunately, it is genuine 😅
Congrats on that!!! That is damn good price, and totally worth it. Enjoy it to the max! To be honest, the realistic prices for both this and the vinyl version should be much lower than they are, but obviously are inflated due to them not being produced anymore. But always good to see someome getting one at a decent price.
That's the exact same CD set I bought cause I didn't have any Beatles CDs in my collection. They really sound great a lot better than I remember the music sounding back in the day, it's all the Beatles I need and I'm most satisfied with the set.
As you should, because despite mamy arguments between audiophiles, collectors or just regular fans with regard to sound quality or the proper way to listen to an album, much of what came in the past 15 years was qualitative.
Thing is with the '60's era mixes, not all mono mixes are the same as the stereos, and that is the case with the Fab Four. The mono and stereo are each interesting for this reason alone.Even the Monkees had mix differences between the two.
That is correct. And it's normal given the state of stereo at the time.
I have the album
Hey John, thanks for being here. Which version do you own?
@@BurgundySkies The original.
No, what I meant was: do you have the mono or the stereo? When you say the original you mean the UK first press, or subsequent ones?
@@BurgundySkies U.K. stereo
