    Man, those patternless rocks are just gorgeous. I saw one on Brian Barczyk's channel(I believe he has one or two normals, and one patternless, all pretty feisty too last I heard) and just fell in love with them. Makes me wish they had dwarf or super dwarf African Rocks like they do for reticulated pythons.

      Males aren't that big. There's a guy in a group that I'm in with a 33 year old male Afrock that's only 10ft at most. People wildly exaggerate the size of all of the world's giant snakes. Giant snakes don't get giant unless you let them get giant with heavy feeding. Males don't have a biological reason to grow much larger after sexual maturity, and even females dont grow as large as people say. A 16ft or so female afrock owned by salvatore fortuna (he's on youtube) is the absolute largest I've ever seen. People talk about 20ft burms and afrocks all the time, but the truth is that there's absolutely ZERO proof either species can actually grow that long. Retics can definitely reach 20ft, but even then, only large females of certain localities ever achieve those lengths. I have a 7 year old male retic who is not a dwarf or a superdwarf, and he's only 10ft long and 20lbs. That's actually perfectly normal for an adult male that isnt fed overly heavily. He's still borderline manageable for 1 person to handle too. My 5ft 2 inch wife can hold him alone. I always stay within earshot, but she's never actually needed my help with him. If you want an afrock that stays small, just get a male and keep it on large rats or maybe very small rabbits. Just dont feed it huge meals.

    My friend, nice snake, just so you know, in their natural habitat, close to water through african savannah, no cover of jungle, Hatchlings are highly prone to predation by birds, monitors, honey badgers etc and get defensive of anything over them.

      Thanks for the compliment & yes I am aware of this information I may have not mentioned it in the video. Most snakes you would find by water because it’s a easy way for them to get water and food source and also you’ll find them along rocks and bushes.

      Afrocks are much smarter and move a lot more than burms do, which makes you think they act like a retic, but surprisingly, mine acts very very differently than my retics. I keep all 3 species and love them all, but afrocks are definitely my favorite of the large pythons. Infact mine just came out to greet me, so ill wrap this up. Retics and burms are both super super awesome too though!

My august 10th 2022 female is 6.5ft and HUGE though. She only eats every 1-2 weeks. Not sure why shes so much bigger than my burms or retics from 2022. I feed her the same as them and they are all a few months older than her.

      I only have 1 afrock, but I can honestly say shes every bit as sweet as my 2 burms or 2 retics. Sweeter even. Of course, my short experience with 1 individual doesn't count for much though. She could just be sweeter than most others, or I could just be biased towards her because shes my favorite. Shes suuuuper smart like my retics and talkative like my burms. Oddly enough shes much more active than either and also much more curious and aware of her surroundings. I'd highly recommend them, especially if you already like burms and retics.

      @@jamexoticreptiles Thats what I heard too. But I've also heard the exact opposite from other people. Some people say they mature faster and others say they mature slower. People seem to agree that they are slightly smaller as adults though. In my case my afrock has been growing quite a bit faster than my burms or retics her age. I have a few young burms and retics this year, and the afrock is about twice the weight of most of them, despite being a few months younger. She's at least 40% heavier than every one of them. She's just a little bigger than your 2018 afrocks were in this video, except that shes only 9 months old. She was an August 1st 2022 baby. I'm sure its just luck of the draw that shes so big. I dont even feed her more than the others, and she only eats about every 10 days. I just found it interesting, because I expected her to grow slower than burms or retics. I know burmese pythons and reticulated pythons are certainly capable of larger sizes maximum sizes overall and on average. The growth rates are confusing though. I keep hearing mixed opinions, and ive only ever owned my 1 afrock, so im not sure what to think.

      I mean they’re predators. I’ve had 2 of the same snake species with 2 very different personalities. My female Retic is a sweetheart but she has nailed me before. When I was live feeding her she would go bat shit crazy if she didn’t get the mouse on the first strike. Id avoid live feeding with any Retics or Afrocks. Frozen thawed tends to keep them pretty chilled for the most part

    • @alexcrowder1673
      @alexcrowder1673 ปีที่แล้ว

      Comments like this make my day. So sick of people trying to claim they get 30-60ft+. Not even close. They honestly arent even the heaviest snakes either. The heaviest snakes that have been officially verified were retics and burms, not green anacondas. Both burms and retics have been confirmed over 400lbs, yet the largest confirmed green anaconda was only a little over 300lbs. It also drives me nuts that everyone keeps quoting "500lbs" and "550lbs", because those numbers were made up decades ago and do not refer to any known anaconda. Theres no real evidence that such an anaconda even existed. Maybe hundreds of years ago, but nomodern anaconda that can actually be verified has ever been that large. You were spot on for the sizes. Green anaconda also grow really reaaaally slow compared to burnese pythons, african rock pythons, and reticulated pythons. Itd take at LEAST 2 years for a green anaconda to reach the sizes that the giant python species could all achieve by their 1st birthday. My 12 month old afrock for example is over 8ft already. She was only just born august 1st 2022 lol.
