"Do you know where your children are?" is a question used as a public service announcement (PSA) for parents on American television from the late 1960s through the late 1980s. Accompanied by a time announcement, this phrase is typically used as a direct introduction for the originating station's late-evening newscast, typically at 10:00 p.m. While the phrase itself had appeared in newspapers as...

I saw this ad on the "World's Funniest Commercials" special hosted by Leslie Nielsen in the early 1990s, and it was accompanied with some mellow piano music, which was a hilarious contrast with the destruction scenes :D
This video was made the same year I started as a trimet bus driver
The Snobbery is perfect! 🍷
Diana is so beautiful, brave, wicked, and cruel. She can run full speed in high-heeled boots better than Wonder Woman. Fortunately for the human race, however, she and her species were history's worst shots and military strategists.
I live near the Turnpike and absolutely Love its history. The abandoned two lane Tunnels are now a rail trail

The public health around TMI has been studied for 40 years now, and there is just is no evidence of any radioactive illness. You can’t deny the numbers. I was visiting Middletown just this past weekend, and there simply is no evidence of the widespread illness described in this video.
“You can see the trees are burned”. Oh really? Show me. I see green trees all around you.

we did a lot of damage to our city back in the 50s-00s which left us with a shell of a city today, destroying so much of our history. i wish we could go back to the 1920s when portland was just a drunk town
I'd buy a DVD copy of this if there is one available. We lived up there at the time and left not long afterwards.
Now I know how to ride the bus.
That would be awesome

Excellent. The film maker Manfred Kirchheimer just recently died
wonderful, but is there no way to improve the clarity/definition? the art is so deserving!
This film was made by Manfred Kirchheimer - (1931 - July 16, 2024) The graffiti artists featured are Lee, The Fabulous 5, Shadow, Daze, Kase, Butch, Blade, Slave, 12 T2B, Ree, and Pusher. Kirchheimer wanted to "elevate" their work as suggested in the title. He told NPR that he would drive to the Bronx and film the trains going overhead: They would come by and it would be screaming full of colors - just gorgeous ... The smart thing I did was shoot it all outdoors. Most of the lines are indoors, and the way most people see these paintings was indoors. Doing it outdoors gave a whole other perspective. Stations of the Elevated debuted in 1981 at the New York Film Festival. When it was first released, it received no reviews and was essentially forgotten after its premier at the New York Film Festival.
No bike lanes!!! I love it!!!
They built that in FOUR YEARS?!? These days for a project like that after four years the court battles and approvals wouldn't even be finished. That's NOT progress. There is a section of the Turnpike near Breezewood that was abandoned in the 60's when the two tunnels were bypassed. It's a fascinating place to visit and it's shocking how narrow and close together the sides of the highway are compared to modern ones. (the tunnels are also REALLY dark!). There is a fascinating video from 1953 of driving though the tunnels on the Turnpike. th-cam.com/video/OOP_QoizcWc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=LWA94BFJwrafpHYJ

Your collection of videos is amazing
Never seen a silent that had zero music?
Yeah, it's not meant to have zero music. Don't know if the uploader only has a copy with the music missing or they purposely removed the music to avoid copyright. But, yeah, if seen in a proper movie theater, this movie would have definitely had music accompanying it (either played live or on a separate record).

Yes, the area has been studied for 40 years now, and there is no more instances of illness than any other town.
I'm so sick of the TMI deniers. You can tell when they say "partial meltdown" A meltdown is a meltdown. You can't be a little bit pregnant
Yes, I’m sure you are. But the fact is, only about 40% of the reactor’s fuel melted. The core did have a partial, meltdown. The melt did not breach the containment building. Hence, it was a partial meltdown. Look, I know many people think Neal Armstrong never walked on the moon. I can’t waste my efforts to try to convince those people of anything. Look, if you want to believe the earth is flat, I won’t stop you, but the incident at TMI in 1979 was not the disaster fictionalized in this video. To be sure, the incident was a potential disaster.
Saying “a meltdown is a meltdown” is like saying “a fire is a fire”. Not every fire becomes a massive conflagration and destroys entire towns and farmers’ livelihoods. Most fires don’t even kill anyone. Do all car accidents cause the same level of damage? Do all explosions kill the same amount of people? A meltdown is just a way that something went wrong. Like anything, there is a spectrum to how deadly a meltdown is. Just “being a meltdown” is no guarantee of any death or even widespread contamination. Examples of meltdowns (besides TMI) where no one died and there was no widespread contamination: EBR-1, NRX, Fermi-1, the nuclear aircraft prototype. Heck, there were tons of experiments where researchers intentionally melted cores. By your logic, all of those must have lead to death and cancer.
