Hong Kong and The Peak - Unicycle Hill Climb
On a family holiday to Hong Kong, I took the opportunity to enjoy hill climbing to The Peak on Hong Kong island.
On the early morning, after flying into Hong Kong, I rode my 29" Unicycle up to The Peak while my family was sleeping in and enjoying Yum Cha. It is a popular cycle route amongst local cyclists.

Note: I heard 'Tape Machines - Evergreen Fields" from a Hong Kong cycling You-tuber while researching to hill climb to The Peak.
I give my apologies for re-using the track, but I love the track so much and for me, when I hear it, I'm reminded of a wonderful connection with the Peak Hill climb.

Can you say me name this unicycle ?
Hi, I custom built this unicycle from the following components: Frame: Flansberrium 4130 steel frame built for 125mm wide Hub. Hub: Schlumpf Geared Hub 2022 model, 125mm bearing width. The rest of the components are from a Kris Holm KH36 unicycle. Except for the aerobars which I got online.
You start off in high gear? When I started, I learnt to switch gears first
Glad that worked for you David. For me, the very first time I tried riding G36, I started off in low gear and tried to switch to high gear. Not being accustomed to the high gear, I would get a second or two riding then would fall off forward. Ankles were getting hammered. G36 went in the closet and back to KH36. Other geared unicyclist's recommended riding in high gear first to get used to it. For me, "brilliant idea!" After 2 weeks, I'm now riding to work and able to change up and down at will. 4-5 times over the 15km commute. Now just to get accustomed to faster speeds!
@@unicyc I didn't think about the ankle thing. You tend to have a lot of UPD's on guni's. I still even have off days when my shifting doesn't go right
Why do you have aerobars on a unicycle
Great question. Some unicyclists comment that it is painful to ride for long distances. They usually have most of their weight on the seat and weight on the pedals. The aero-bar or short T-bar, as some use, allows a fourth point of contact to spread the body's weight. I rest enough weight on my elbows that, at times, I can have no weight on the seat and also the position feels very comfortable while riding. I usually ride a total of approx. 100km per week commuting, and have accumulated 7300km the past 2 1/2years. Also, for a geared unicycle, the aero-bar provides more fine control of the rotational momentum (flywheel effect) of the wheel through the long leverarm. ie saves me waving my arms around.
