Thanks Juha for providing some good footage! Great day
well, it was me :-)
Thank you for taking the time to reply, and info.
Chains are allowed although I didn't see many. Many of the areas in this video of "off-road" meaning you cannot drive on them without permits. We had a permit due to it being run by isak.is and the guide being with us. Otherwise you have to stick to roads.
Are Tyre Chains allowed? (sometime environmental concerns, tearing up delicate land etc) If allowed they would be a great help. Thank you
Yes I have an 06 90 and just love it, Last year in England we had a little snow. Totally superb without any slipping.Fitted with Nexen rodian mud terrains, worth every penny
You are welcome. It's a good day out and the factory tour is also well worth doing. Thanks for the comment
I had the opportunity to do this track last weekend...we had a defender and a discovery (both brand new!)...we had a heck of a lot of fun!...I have to confess the water was not this deep (no water in the car)...But thank you very much for the video, I had only a DSLR with me, so no video!
Thanks for the comments. Felt completely safe - the guide had a permit to drive the restricted areas that are normally out of bounds to tourists. They've been running it for years and I'm booked to go back in February for another trip. A great company who love Defenders.
They got back didn't they, had all the kit required, atleast they were in a Defender, any other vehicle would still be there today.
Just been watching a Nissan Patrol, Opel Frontera and driving in the snow albeit nothing compared to this depth, all vehicles were sliding all over the place, so glad I got one of these beasts. back to this video, you got guts, you went out with one defender into the hills with snow upto your wheel arches about 2.5 foot deep, thats real good, if your gonna get a real 4x4 your only choice is the Defender no other 4x4 gets close, this video proves how good the defender realy is, thank you.
That's right, Saturday the 7th
Must have been the 7th of September since it was clear of clouds.
The guide was from Isafold Travel, the owner, who own a fleet of Land Rover Defenders for this purpose. He's been doing this for years. He would get out and check the route in some place (ice, depth of water etc) before we drove on. A fantastic experience.
Wait, you went in one car, in january, up in the Icelandic highlands?? Hope you at least had a guide with you
They are 38 inch tyres but I'm not sure about the rest of the details about it. The rest was mostly standard Land Rover but with front and rear air lockers, compressor for the tyres
What are the name of the manufacturer of the wide fenders and what size of wheel and tire those this truk have?? thx
